  1. I did some film review and my one answer is my gold standard for drum corps shows: 2000 Cadets- We are the Future- this show just has it all- great accessible music; difficult and fun to watch visuals; and some other fun moments that pull the audience in. Other winning shows in my top 10 all time 1996 Phantom Regiment- A Defiant Heart- best show musically of all time. I just love the darkness of the sopranos in the low range. 1988 Madison Scouts- I'm not attached to the opener but this performance of Malaguena is my favorite piece in DCI history 1975 Madison Scouts- oh this show is just a ton of fun and the definition off Bad as$ from start to finish. For the record the other responses in my family would be 91 star from my husband and 06 Cavaliers from my mom...but she loved 18 SCV too
  2. The season begins today and until August current performances will have our attention...but for now... What are your favorite championship winning shows?
  3. I wasn't even going to go there. You won't find a winning show in my all time top 5 list and my two favorite winning shows TIED another show for 1st. I don't have any right to say who should have won- I have only seen finals live in person in 2012 and my seats were hardly favorable for judging all the components of the show. Then you have shows that just hold up better over time even though in the moment you were more impressed by another show (for me this is 2015... Inferno was a monster live but I keep going back to Kinetic Noise). So a lot of factors there.
  4. I have a tie. I have been watching these both for days and can't pick ABANDON ALL HOPE YE WHO ENTER HERE and THIS IS MY RIFLE The other 2nd place show not far behind these two is 2012 Carolina Crown HMs for Phantom 89 and SCV 87
  5. Tommorow night marks the start of a new exciting drum corps season. What is your favorite 2nd place show?
  6. Overall, with the exception of Crown, the uniforms that have been revealed seem pretty tasteful. I really like the uniforms from Crossmen, Cavaliers, Cadets (but not the male guard), and Boston. They are more costumes than uniforms but still pretty cool
  7. True but Boston has been in the 6-12 loop for many years with BK...which is why I didn't quote previous to 2007 for Crown. It's very hard to crack the top 6 which they did 2 years ago- and it wasn't just because other corps were having down years. Boston has made the staffing changes to move up and they have 2 years of working together and member recruitment under their belts. While BK is one of my favorite corps they haven't made the staffing changes to make a run for a medal.
  8. I feel Crown found themselves in 2nd place rather quickly in 09 (6th in 07, 4th in 08)...and that was in a time where the only corps with medals already had at least one ring. It's not out of reach. I have them slotted at 3rd in preseason
  9. https://www.dci.org/news/bluecoats-work-for-wednesdays-through-dog-days-of-spring-training Another Bluecoats article on the front page. Hmm...the theater features movies and documentaries related to their 2019 production. Didn't see page 12 until just now but the hint in this article and others in this thread lead me to believe it's Woodstock. We will see. 2 days!
  10. Yeah me too. The concept is so simple yet so complex. It's like dropping a rock in the water and the ripple never stops. The incorporation of relative motion and one part is always moving is so good and was portrayed so well. Excellent and tasteful use of music tech too. Let's not forget the coolest percussion feature of all time too. As for the musical flow and the music itself I feel like it was so me and in line with my thinking. 2015 was an excellent year for competition and 3 of my top 10 shows came out of 2015. Also keep in mind, while it wasn't my cup of tea, the Cadets were 100% on their A Game and probably got robbed of a medal. Still though, the more I review the top 4 shows that year the more I think the Bluecoats could have won. For me-Session 44 was the best 2018 show from Saro to the end but I just didn't like the opener as much. Definitely in my top 5 3rd place finishes...but nothing compares to Kinetic Noise.
  11. Bronze medal shows? There are a lot that don't resonate well with me and a lot that I can take or leave. Tomorrow I am going to have a lot of trouble... My answer is easy as my favorite show of all time happens to be a 3rd place show. Bluecoats 2015 Kinetic Noise
  12. Thursday is coming at us like a freight train and pretty soon we will know how some of the top corps stack up against each other but for now... What are some of your favorite Bronze Medal Finishes?
  13. Stopping by this thread to leave some hype for this show. I had originally written them out of finals then saw a recording of their hornline and immediately changed my mind. Saw the show preview and this is probably my favorite Crossmen show of all time. I actually think the guitar adds a nice tambre and you gotta love the trombone feature. Go Crossmen!
  14. For me there is only one clear answer. 1980 Spirit of Atlanta HMs for 1995 Madison Scouts (duh), 2006 Bluecoats and 2008 Crown, 2011 Crown was fun too
  15. The first day of the season is just a few days away. What is your favorite 4th place show?
  16. Odd staging for the pit. Looks like the corps moves a lot which is awesome. Not sure how into the show I am on the first read.
  17. With relevance to prelims and semi finals a few open class corps aren't making the trip to Indy at all. The 2 big names being Blue Devil's B and the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets. I count 35 corps at Prelims
  18. Showed this video to my husband. They sound like Ott contenders
  19. I think I will have a unique/unpopular answer to this question. I will also give the disclaimer that my exposure is limited before 2000. The past 10 years have really been excellent for 5th place shows and I often find my favorite or second favorite show of the year landing at 5th place. My answer is the only 5th place show that makes my top 10 all time...and I watched/listened to a few other 5th place and a few of my other all time favorites and I kept coming back to this show. 2015 Santa Clara Vanguard- the Spark of Invention- its all there interesting music and drill/visuals from start to finish and one of,IMO, the best soloists in DCI history. I am just into it from start to finish Here are some others that I absolutely love: 2017 Bluecoats Jagged Line 2014 Carolina Crown Out of This World 2005 Bluecoats Caravan
  20. It is officially the week of the start of the season! What is your favorite 5th place show? Phantom Regiment and Santa Clara Vanguard lead the back with seven finishes at 5th place each.
