  1. Maybe we aren’t engaging with your premise because we do not agree! It is NOT a requirement, or even necessary, for a show to appeal to the masses. Never was a requirement, hopefully will never BE a requirement. I have followed SCV since 1975, and i disliked Babylon intensely. I didn’t relate to anyone saying they found it enjoyable, appealing, or easy to understand. I thought it was dark, gloomy, and depressing. But the music was great, the percussion stellar, and the guard was top notch. And i never once thought that SCV should care what i thought about it
  2. Repeating yourself isn’t going to help your cause. The implication is that you are right and we just don’t get it. Which couldn’t be further from the truth. We get your point but many disagree. and, boiled down, your point seems to be that the ONLY way for this to be FAIR is to find some way to penalize or handicap BD so all of the other corps have a chance. I wonder how the MM in BAC, Bloo, and Crown would feel if they knew that their fans think the only way they can win is to kneecap their biggest competition.
  3. If that issue you present is “fact”, then your facts are wrong, because I don’t have a problem with anyone winning 60% of the time if the people paid to judge give them the highest scores. I remember back when the Cavaliers and Cadets were winning every year, thinking that the Devs may never win again. But i never thought the Cavs and Cadets were being unjustly rewarded.
  4. This whole thread disturbs me. People complaining that BD wouldn’t win if they were coerced or forced to change up their style and/or music? With the instructors and member talent in this organization, i believe they could come up with another undefeated season if they were told to do a whole show using nursery rhyme songs!
  5. Love em or hate em, when you ask someone to go to a corps show, invariably they will ask “will BD be there?”.
  6. He LITERALLY offered the scenario of Phantom as a corps who MUST play some classical music every year!
  7. Flo is very good at listening to suggestions for where they should have their cameras during a show. Email them with some suggestions about where they should be looking and at what point in the show. They have cue cards from the corps themselves on what they should key on, but, outside of that, they don’t really know the shows.
  8. I ave to believe that is at least part of the plan. They are already posing all around the field. It would be a missed opportunity if they didn’t expand on that.
  9. This! I hadn’t even considered the emotional toll this week must have taken on them. 😔 If anyone can get them back in the groove, it’s ScoJo and team!
  10. If there was ever a year when a crown set is required, this is it. The whole story is about a crown!
  11. I doubt your wish will be fulfilled anytime soon. BD seems to have made a conscious decision a while back to perform uplifting, upbeat, positive shows, and I don’t envision whipping post fitting into that scheme!
  12. I don’t think they should change anything just yet. see what happens in hattiesburg and then water it down if it doesn’t improve.
  13. It appears that, like everything else in society, there are 2 concepts for competition: either you work and sweat to take the gold, silver, or bronze, or everyone gets a participation trophy. Participation trophies are for little kids, to provide a feeling of accomplishment and help to foster a desire to continue. Medals are for older kids and adults, to give them something to aspire to and to reward the best of the best.
  14. I know it won’t happen, but i have wanted this since the very first use of LOS.
  15. Why do they need to make any statement? Completely unnecessary, IMHO.
  16. I stopped reading this thread many pages ago (PTSD) but feel i need to say something. I never marched drum corps, just band. At a tender age i was raped on a date and had to march in a big parade the next day. “Sexual assault” always sounds too “pretty” to me, and doesn’t capture the brutal physical and mental aspect of this crime, even when actual violence is minimal. My point is, rape IS a crime! IF it is reported, it becomes a criminal investigation and any corps responsibility should become secondary to an official investigation. However, If it is NOT reported, which seems to be the case here, for whatever reason, then technically there is no crime, and I don’t see how you punish someone who hasn’t been investigated or charged with a crime? yes, we should believe victims. And we should support those who come forward. But that doesn’t mean we don’t investigate. Memories DO change, feelings evolve. What we recall vividly today may be quite different from what we experienced at the time, especially after trauma. If nothing else, THIS victim believes this accused person deserves to remain until the law says otherwise. i feel for the victim. I really do. I’ve had to live with my decision for almost 50 years. But we just don’t know where the truth is here.
  17. I mentioned on another thread… i think Mandarins finish 6th at finals.
