  1. Considering the venue whether it be Bands or Drum Corps, I still prefer a 2-piece uniform with separate, wide leg pants and an overlay top or jacket. I really dislike the "tight" look bottoms or the one-piece uni-suit. Since more and more show designs seem to rely on close up views of expressions, make-up etc..... The spandex type body suits do not provide a pleasing visual picture.
  2. Living in BD land, I do tire of seeing BD win but Cappybara is correct. Not only 18 World Titles to their name but let's not forget the 2nd place finishes also. SCV is another great, being a charter member of DCI and maintaining there stature within DCI for decades. In the early days of drum corps, the Midwest reigned supreme. And for another long period, the East coast were the best. The California corps learned from the best, imported whatever talent they felt they needed and results are the current records. They are now other corps from Mandarins down to Open Class corps in California making huge strides. Wishing all of the them the best. "Live Long and Prosper"
  3. I have posted previously in other threads about this subject and Drum Corps Guy is exactly right. It is a real turn off participating in this forum where the constant "put downs" and "personal attacks" occur on a frequent basis. The sad thing is, it seems to come in large part from members who have "Veteran" status. I would think these folks would be far more tolerant of others because they may have more experience? It's DCP living up to it's worst reputation of being an over opinionated group.
  4. That would be such a great idea. The shows almost need a "Program" to understand them. That's why I love Blue Devils "Inside BD 360", "Conversations" and Santa Clara's "From The Field" because they take the time to explain their show concepts in depth.
  5. Thank you for the compliment. I am not against going coed, I just remember Madison as a Scout's based organization. Of course they change but with that change, they have to create the new history just as Cadets.
  6. Madison scores reveal bigger problems rather than just going coed. This Thread has continued for many posts and I felt that some of the discussion should include the following: MikeRapp Posted 18 hours ago https://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/index.php?/topic/169273-2019-madison-scouts/page/159/&tab=comments#comment-3836632 "The tough thing about Scouts is, their historical identity was about masculinity, not the type of shows they did". "Scouts alums still insist on defining Scouts in terms of history and male-ism". MikeRapp was partially correct and seemed to imply that he could not understand why some are still in disagreement with the gender changes within the Scouts, but he stated the exact reason why in his opening: "Their historical identity was about masculinity, history and male-ism". The courts can legislate all the "Political Correctness" they want but, they cannot erase history. A Look At Scouting in the United States Scouting in the United States is dominated by the 2.7 million-member Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of the USA and other associations that are recognized by one of the international Scouting organizations. There are also a few smaller, independent groups that are considered to be "Scout-like" or otherwise Scouting related. Boy Scouts of America - Important Dates On May 23, 2013, the voting members of the National Council ofBoy Scouts of America - Important Dates the Boy Scouts of America voted to lift the ban of letting openly gay individuals into the Scouts by 61% to 38%. Openly gay boys are allowed to become Scouts from January 2014 but openly gay adults were still forbidden to be leaders. In 2017 after hard fought court battles, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) announced it was going to include girls between the ages of 11 and 17 and change it's name from "Boy Scouts of America (BSA)" to "Scouts BSA" However, the position of Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) is to continue their mission to serve girls, and girls only, and to foster their amazing leadership potential. They stated that "they remain steadfast in their knowledge that Girl Scouts is the world's single best leadership development program for girls." Welcoming girls into the Boy Scouts has not come without controversy and litigation has continued between the new "Scouts BSA" and the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA). The (GSUSA) issued a statement that didn't name BSA, but said that the "benefit of the single- gender environment has been well-documented by educators, scholars, other girl - and youth-serving organizations, and Girl Scouts and their families." Yet the very same argument was used by Boy Scouts of America (BSA) which failed in the courts. A Synopsis of Madison's History In 1938, a group of Madison businessmen saw a performance of the Racine Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps. They decided that Madison should also have a Boy Scout drum corps, and they formed the Madison Scouts, which they affiliated as Troop 600 with the local Scout council. They named Clarence H. Beebe as the corps' first director, a position he would hold for thirty years until his death in 1968. The corps was split in 1951, with the older members becoming the Madison Explorer Scouts and the younger assigned to the Madison Junior Scouts, a cadet "feeder" corps for the older unit. Through the 1980's Madison stayed in DCI Finals but generally never made it to the championship level except for 1975 and then winning their second DCI World Championship in 1988. In 1990 the organization dropped the name Scouts from the corporate name and allowed the charter for Boy Scout Troop 600 to lapse, although the corps remained affiliated with Scouting for another two decades. The century turned with the Madison Scouts still mostly in the DCI Top Twelve but continued a decline in placement to a low of 16th place. Sponsorship The Madison Scouts are sponsored by Forward Performing Arts Association, Inc., a 501c 3 musical organization that has a Board of Directors, corps director, and staff assigned to carry out the organization's mission. The Executive Director is Chris Komnick and the Programs Director is Dann Petersen. A review of Madison's scores. I am a fan of Madison and I am also in the camp of wanting Madison to remain an all-male corps simply from their history and tradition. But along with membership change they will have to re-establish themselves as a new organization and create a new history, just as Cadets have done. Changing the gender of the members may or may not change Madison's performance. That will have to be proven but, I do not believe that simply changing to become coed is the solution to why Madison has failed to remain competitive. The fact is that Madison has failed to produce a strong competitive corps for quite some time. I am not close enough to the organization to know it's inner workings but looking at past scores reveals a drop or slump in scoring that Madison has suffered from for a very long time. Prior to 2000, Madison placed strong in the 90's. Following 1999, Madison has been in a continued decline over the past 27 years. I like Madison and my hope is that they find the correct solution and fix. I'm sure the BOD and staff have gone over this time and again. Until they find the correct answer, Madison is doomed to repeat as a low scoring corps. Here are Madison's scores listed by year and averaged in blocks of 10 years. 7. May she be remembered for her love of the activity and her contributions.
  8. Thanks for the info ....... not familiar with this ...... only a few days before finals, Can you provide a list of equipment and install guide? I don't have or use TV ....... discarded that long ago. Everything is internet and Desktop and laptop computers.
  9. 10 hours ago, Rich Cline said: Restarted stream to miss half of SCV and everyone has mic'd up hornlines so you can't hear anything ....... And for FLO, the absolute worst transmission of the season. Not liking any of this. Just to be clear on my end, I do not consider myself a total novice on computers as I download terabytes of files each month often going over my Comcast allotment and I'm not going to rehash the FLO Su### Thread. I Had to work last night 16 hours, so I was forced to use my computer with their modem and internet access to watch East Coast Classic Day 1. My work is a very large corporation with guessing 100 + smaller businesses all connected through the corporate network so they do have ample bandwith. Just to verify my speed, I ran a speed test and here are my results from speedtest.net https://www.speedtest.net/result/8470961614# PING: 7 ms DOWNLOAD: 174.46 Mbps UPLOAD: 146.87 Mbps FLO's Posted Requirements Live Stream Frequently Asked Questions https://www.flosports.tv/faq/ What web browsers do you support? For the best viewing experience, please use the latest version of the following web browsers: •Google Chrome (Recommended) •Mozilla FireFox •Safari •Microsoft Edge Recommended Internet Speed You need a minimum download speed of 3 Megabits per second to watch a single video stream in clear, standard definition. The best Internet speed for HD streaming is 5Mbps, and if you go all the way up to 4K streaming, or ultra HD, your bandwidth should start at 25Mbps. The live stream player isn’t loading, what could be the problem? Clear the cache in your web browser. he player loads but the video is stuttering or choppy, what could be the problem? Video clips will play better with faster Internet connections. Users with a high-speed connection (DSL or cable) should experience high-quality video. Users with a dial-up modems may experience longer loading times while the video buffers before playing, and may experience buffering as the video play NOTE! I started the stream with Firefox and had to switch over to Chrome because Firefox was buffering. What is The Best DSL speed Reference: www.review10best.com/uk/top10/dsl-modem.html While it may not be essential for casual web browsing and using word documents, it’s essential to get a DSL modem with fast speed settings if you play video games, stream movies, or download. The top downstream speed of a DSL modem is typically around 15Mbps, with the upstream speed clocking a maximum of 1Mbps. So in summary, I missed Genesis and Music City installing Chrome and restarting stream. Seemed to play fine up to Blue Stars. From Blue Devils on it was like listening to double audio tracks at the same time. Sent and email to FLO and got the polite putoff response: "we're reviewing the situation". So, we'll see how tonight goes because I'm working again and have the same setup. I will just have to be content reviewing the recaps from last night. Hoping for better results.
  10. Can't speak to any of top 3 performances since I could not watch due to FLO but, BD was only .225 behind Bloo so it's not a big win. Have to review recaps.
  11. The 3 shows that I really wanted to watch were totally terrible. Flo did something with the sound starting with BD. Sounded like time delay and playing two audio tracks at the same time. Restarted stream to miss half of SCV and everyone is mic'd up hornlines so you can hear anything and Bloo ....... sorry. Hate the ending. Sholuld have left it the way it was. And for FLO, the absolute worst transmission of the season. Not liking any of this.
  12. Entire show is freaking out of sync audio wise. Sounds like quadraphonic with reverb repeat
  13. Love Academy's Troubled Waters. Almost wish Cadets were play this arrangement. Everyone seems hot tonight
  14. FLO said if there is no lightening. They have to 30 minutes more with no lightening so could be one hour
  15. Jen and Montoya on commenting about corps so far.Troopers and Genises had more than 20 members sick
  16. So to recap so far; Flo not working. Had to switch browsers from Firefox to Chrome Missed Music City and half of Genesis Madison came out powerhouse intro. Show is improved, lines and formations better. Overall problem with show is lack of field coverage and guard is kind of simple show compared to others. Missed Troopers due to work interruption so can't comment on them. Waiting for Lightening to pass with one corps before scheduled intermission
  17. Totally Scott is one of a kind. I was viewing some older BD videos. There is one where Scott is interviewed during BD's spring trainng. Scott is in his motorhome which he said he uses because he lives away from Concord, CA. He takes the viewers on a tour which I believe is Blue Devils Corporate offices. The room is lined with shelves of trophy's and he opens a display case showing multiple "championship" rings. Scott has been with BD about 39 years. He came out of a corps called The Royalaires from San Leandro, CA which has since disbanded. He was a snare drummer who marched with that corps just after I left after teaching brass with Cy Udall. The Royalaires were one of the first corps in northern California to have an organization with multiple groups within the organization. This was just after SCV had broke away from the parents of the Drum and Bell corps to form a drum and bugle corps. BD was just starting their transition in a similar circumstance.
  18. Scott Johnson is back. Have been reviewing recent fan uploads of BD in the lot on Youtube. I noticed that Scott Johnson is now back with the drumline. He was MIA during the early part of BD's tour as he was in Japan doing something for the Blue Devils. Recent Recaps had BD down in percussion a bit. Since the "Master" is back, I look for BD's percussion scores to go up. We'll see tonight.
  19. I don't think any of us know for sure what's in store unless they are attending a rehearsal and there has been a lot of speculation about surprise endings for both BD and Bloo. After last weekend's regional, this is the time that BD will be adding final layers to the show, so maybe we will tonight.
