  1. Thank you for posting this interview. After reading, I don't feel any less nervous about his hiring.
  2. They can't even seem to manage Bingo at this point and operating a card room is a whole different level of accountability; background checks, licenses, financial background checks (oops), work permits for each employee, etc. etc. Plus, those types of places have a tendency to attract criminal and corruptive elements, which is the last thing Santa Clara or any youth-based organization needs. I doubt upscale Santa Clara County would allow it anyway.
  3. In my mind, inadequacies in Santa Clara's accounting records for 2021 & 2022 fall into the category of "bad luck & bad choices", which their new CEO already admitted to. If that doesn't seem plausible anyone - not just "stakeholders" - can file a complaint with CA's Registry of Charities, BBB, Department of Consumer Affairs, and/or the Santa Clara County's D.A. office.
  4. Yes! Put the focus back on the corps and its legacy instead of the adults that failed.
  5. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Might be a good year to dust-off bottle dance to help restore momentum.
  6. Fantastic news! Thanks for sharing. Stanford people can be annoying but they know what they're doing.
  7. Great song from Hollywood's golden age of big music. I remember Boston playing it in 73 or 74.
  8. He said in the article; "bad choices and bad luck". None of this should have ever happened and, of course, until they are in full compliance their charitable status is in jeopardy. I have witnessed wild management incompetence in both the public and private sector, and their new CEO's comments are plausible. He's only been there for four months and I'm optimistic he's telling the truth. CA hasn't pulled the plug and I don't believe they will ultimately do so.
  9. No, you're thinking of "Tribute to Troy" (different song) and we love it! Conquest is played towards the end of the game if we're going to win & at graduation ceremonies.
  10. Good article. It makes no sense to me that an accomplished Stanford professor/director would take the CEO position of an organization that is about to fail. Everything he is quoted as saying is plausible ("bad choices & bad luck" ) and until proven otherwise I believe him.
  11. I love "Conquest", but isn't it from the 1947 movie Captain of Castile? Our band (USC) plays it after each win.
  12. WGI was co-founded in 1977/78 by the late-great Shirlee Whitcomb. She was a trailblazer and wonderful lady. I credit Ron Nankervis for growing WGI to the success it is today. Wish he would have come over to run DCI.
  13. Congrats on the win. I had no dog in this hunt, but could see it coming a mile away. WA's 1,100 yard rusher could barely play so no running play to keep Michigan's DL honest. Teams that are forced to pass every down seldom win.
  14. I'm unsure what "Januals" are, and I don't see mention of it, but does it mean we're safe from woodwinds on the field for at least another year.....? 😬
  15. Some of these organizations wait until the very last minute to comply and the state needs time to go over their submissions, sometime multiple year submissions as in the case of SCV. That's why there is really no hard "drop-dead" date on the intent to suspend/revoke letter. Organizations are really given every opportunity possible to comply. These lists are updated monthly by the state, so hopefully by the next update or by February, their name will disappear. Thanks for you post and added perspective πŸ‘
  16. No, and that's a good thing. I don't believe their 501c3 status will be revoked, or even suspended by the state. In terms of "dead" I was referring to this topic being beaten like a dead horse. But it is the off-season and just my personal opinion.
  17. Happy to see this update from SCV management. Hopefully they follow through and the corps returns to dominant form soon.
  18. I'm choosing to give Santa Clara's Board and Management team the benefit of the doubt. No, it obviously doesn't look good right now, but the COVID shut down in CA really DID have a negative impact on many business, profit, and non-profit. I'm hoping their back 990's are submitted soon to avoid a suspension or revocation of their non-profit status. OTOH....😬.....I have seen "this" movie before. There once was a national known corps that folded. Years later, a former director took control of the name in an effort to "restart" the corps. A 5013c status was obtained and a very-very profitable bingo game was built. A LOT of cash was coming in but the new corps never materialized. Occasionally, a small winter guard or drum line was put out but that was it. The cash coming in was not spent on the product on the field as it should have been. Where did all the money go.......? Wellllllllll......
  19. Notes on a score card............the bands in this parade are wearing hats. They look better than Drum Corps that don't.
