Is this really necessary? Drum corps these days take anyone with a pulse and ability to follow through with the financial obligation. If you haven't noticed there are holes at EVERY corps in almost every section.

This reminded me of a time when I was a freshman in high school and the drumline techs (who were adult men) were talking to me about girls butts that were in my grade! There are so many sickos in the marching band community its not even funny

I think we all knew this sort of thing was happening behind closed doors in drum corps. The show designs have gotten increasingly ridiculous to the point where it's not an endeavor worth pursuing from an artistic standpoint along with member safety. Hopefully dci will do us all a favor and fold

I agree, I wish these kids would go public with what they readily shared with me. One even gave me permission to share their messages anonymously but the mods here were against that.

Not defending spirit but I've messaged multiple people who were in or closely related to spirit last summer. According to them there is another side to this story, especially with regard to the rookie talent night fiasco.

You might as well pull funding from all of dci because this is happening everywhere, spirit just happened to get caught.

Why didn't you or anyone else support the girl after she went to management about the abuse? Make sure she was never left alone or in close proximity with the abuser? Everyone failed her in that regard.

Why weren't there any staff members on the bus? Admittedly its been a while but when I was there the entire brass staff rode on the brass bus with us

There are people in the reddit thread who came forward with a conflicting account of the events, even implying that the serial harasser was arrested in front of the corps. Who knows what to believe at this point

This is what I'm having a hard time trying to understand as well. I believe a staff member is present on every bus, so I'm really not sure how they allowed oral sex to go down at the rookie talent night. And I've spent a great deal of this morning trying to call upon ANY memories of that night and nothing comes to mind. I don't even remember what my talent was, it's just so bizarre that this could have crept into the culture at SoA in the last decade. I know a couple years back there was an issue with the board and a woman that was overstepping her bounds but they voted her off. None of this makes sense to me. You see these stories with phantom and the cadets and you think this would have never happened where you marched, until a story like this comes out and completely shatters your entire feelings on drum corps.

For what its worth, I participated in spirit's rookie talent night over a decade ago and can't remember anything questionable happening. There was no putting blankets over the cameras and especially no oral sex being performed. I'm not saying that this couldn't have happened last year, only that was far from my experience when I marched with soa. We had very strict vets and the drum major in particular was not afraid to kick your ### and get in your face if you acted out of line.

Upside? The sound is awful in LOS. Drum corps does not work indoors

I just Googled average administrative cost of charities and it came out to around 15 percent. I don't think anything fishy is going on, though Academy is spending a lot on it and they always have had high tuition. It seems that your united way comparison is a bit misleading

Dr. Snead should handle it well. He was one of the most professional and approachable guys I ever met in my experience with DCI

I wish I could speak candidly on this matter without being silenced for a week. I guess you are only allowed to have one opinion when these stories smearing entire organizations come out
