  1. I only care if they can finish the season.
  2. The invisible dotted line, because it'll never happen.
  3. Poppycock returns. How's Stephen and the cats?
  4. Funny how the same people who ragged on Subel are now his champions. I guess when he's with your home corps you can be more supportive.
  5. I'm sure you do, but I'm not petty unlike some on here. I don't feel the need to spout things that really should be kept to ones self. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
  6. I've kept quiet and logged out for a few months since my suspension was lifted, but I have to say that this is probably the most petty and pathetic thing I've seen anyone post on here in my years of reading and commenting. You're allowing a fan base to dictate whether or not you support the kids on the field? I bet this makes you feel so much better at night, doesn't it? The fact that you felt the need to share this speaks volumes for your character, and not so much the Crown organization or its fandom.
  7. That's why I said before they dropped out. I was in one of those bands that plotted their demise as a teenager, but now as an adult I hate to see any program falter the way they have. I thought for sure North Hardin was on their way to becoming the next great 2A band, but with Brian Froedge retiring, it's certainly hit them pretty hard, I don't see that happening anymore.
  8. Tarpon isn't the only exception. Marian Catholic for how long before they dropped out?
  9. Good for you and good for them. What works in one circuit doesn't necessarily work in another. I've worked with a band with 9 winds, no more than 4 on brass. Literally the textbook of a small band as well, and from the historically poorest region of the country. We did what we had to in-order to stay competitive in the circuit that we competed in. It worked for us. Just because you "personally see no justification in the excuse of small numbers" doesn't mean it doesn't help the students be more competitive and have a more successful season on that aspect of competition, and just because you score with your head on your shoulders doesn't mean that every judge does.
  10. So now I'm the one being negative. What a turn of events! Guess it's okay talk #### this season on the Crown thread. Got it.
  11. Yes because calling people out on their crap is bizarre. God forbid we hold people accountable for their comments. It's neither Star nor '96. 😉
  12. I'm with you for larger ensembles, but again, as I stated prior, smaller ensembles use sound patches for acoustic instruments to allow for their sound to have a bottom to it. Listening to a 9 piece wind band on the field without any bass other than a baritone or trombone isn't as nice as with a tuba. You can't ban it across the board except for those smaller ensembles, which is why BOA is only suggesting it because they know that a lot of their smaller bands wouldn't be competing in their circuit anymore. Please direct me to a video, and I will gladly admit defeat. Was this band over 20 members and capable of having said instrument or were they smaller and less likely to have students who decided to pick up the trumpet as their instrument of choice? We just don't know. In those instances, it's absolutely going to happen that the trumpets will be replaced with a synth. But any educator with a good head on their shoulders would never tell their Trumpet section to stay home or pick a different instrument because they're going full synth with them. So have I. As I believe I mentioned the current Class A national champion. It also happens in DCI. Can we ban those without banning electronics entirely? No. Instrumentation is still different than other types of marching ensembles. Just because we now have Trombones and string instruments doesn't mean that they're going to add in woodwinds. I would hope that they would know better than to do that, or at least open a different class for that sort of ensemble. 1. I know what WGI is. 2. WGI has been without musicians in their guards since 1977. So I guess we can blame that generation for it with that kind of mindset. It might happen, it might not. I doubt that any of your local high schools will go that route though. BOA seems to be leading the charge these days instead of DCI. Yes, high schools play music that corps have done, but we see more corps replicating the top BOA bands these days than vice versa. Alexa, remind me in 5 years to talk to Lance. Percussion sounds have been replicated by electronics since the early/mid 2000s. This is nothing new.
  13. I just want to know, from anyone, the last time they saw a marching band and/or drum corps not march Trumpets because they can be replaced in the pit. Anyone? Because in my career as an educator I've yet to see it happen. The worst I've seen/heard is one of three things: 1. Thunderous Goo coming from the synth trying to make up for a lack of bass/Tuba. Which in the case of small bands without a Tuba, this is understandably done to add depth to their sound. Anyone who disagrees obviously hasn't worked with a band who has 9 winds. 2. A sound patch was used during a solo. This could have been because the kid was sick. I don't know. I've only ever seen this happen once and it was quite noticeable as the kid wasn't even moving their fingers. Clearly the staff didn't prepare the kid for that performance, and likewise shouldn't have even happened, just continue without the solo. Hold up a sign that says "Kid got braces" or something. Not that I as an educator condone that, but I would much rather that be done than a recording of the solo be played while the student stands in front of the mic like they're playing said solo. 3. The entire band is mic'd. The current Class A champion in BOA is a prime example of this. Each instrument had a mic attached. I seen this first hand, up close. They wouldn't have produced nearly half the sound that they did without those mics. There is no way that 20 winds are going to produce the amount of sound that Bourbon County is with almost 100 winds. Technology is and will continue to push the activity. Banning technology will restrict the artistic expression and will eventually kill the activity, but it won't replace Trumpets on the field. I promise.
  14. This is literally in the about at the bottom of the homepage... "With a nod to the past, the Sky Ryders Performing Arts Foundation looks to the future to provide marching arts opportunities for generations to come. Our Board of Directors has grand plans to create a sustainable platform for various ensemble types over the next few years."
  15. I was a long time lurker before I decided to create a profile, so I have seen some of the hateful and ridiculous things that people have posted, and it seems that Crown tends to get the blunt end of everybody's opinion since half the staff left. I just can't stand for it to happen to one when another corps does the exact same thing and everyone thinks it's groundbreaking and innovative. This is, sadly, the world we live in, and regardless of whether or not my words can make a change I will continue to use my voice to point out to others how their words can be harmful and how they make an ### of themselves when making such comments on nothing more than a hype video.
  16. And keeping ones thoughts to themselves has now resorted to putting down an interns work on a discussion board. Where was the negative comments on the Phantom Regiment video that showed the exact same things? Oh, right, that corps doesn't reside in Fort Mill. I forgot. 🤭
  17. I just hope that the fair-weather fans, who jumped ship when half the staff followed dollar signs, continue to give the same #### to other corps videos when they're released. I'll be sure to check the comments on Facebook/Instagram for your derogatory comments on a hype video for a drum corps, something that is very miniscule in the grand scheme called life. I'm sure it makes you feel so much better about your mundane lives, that I assume you live since you feel the need to make those kinds of comments, and gives you enough fuel to get through the rest of your day. Carry on, Keyboard Warriors!
  18. People will complain about anything and everything. 🙄
  19. Other corps use more synth than what Crown did last year. The difference being Crown didn't try to mask it with a Tuba patch.
