  1. No the corps was never an all-girl corps. I don't know how the name came to be Velvet Knights but I so know that it was formed from the break-up of the Anaheim Explorer Scouts. "The original Velvet Knights Drum & Bugle Corps was born in 1963, a result of a split within the Anaheim Explorer Scouts that also resulted in the Anaheim Kingsmen. After the California State Championships in 1963, some Scout staff members wanted to modernize the corps by replacing the existing uniforms with traditional ones, and by jazzing up the musical repertoire. When that did not appear possible, Ziggy Kanstul and some parents left the Scouts to pursue their vision, forming the Velvet Knights (“VK“). The remaining Anaheim Scouts soon reorganized as the Anaheim Kingsmen."
  2. I'll have to check the schedule to see when will be my first attempt at getting it for the season. Easy way would be for you to win it and bring it back to CA so I can take it from you
  3. I'd also like to welcome you to DCPI. I hope you have fun and compete well. Your corps is not listed in the corps registration thread. What class will you be competing in? Where is your corps located? *Edit* Nevermind I saw you. Good luck.
  4. Good Luck to all!! Gotta love the live season.
  5. It's a drop table. Meaning there is a void inside the table. If you watch the video, you can see her prior to her "appearance". Same table used for the Phantom disapperance in 89.
  6. Should have done with this trombone player did............become drum major. My Finger dexterity sucked too.
  7. There were only 65 corps that attended DCI Championships in 88 (25-Open, 16-A, 24-A60) In 89 there were 59 (24-Open, 12-A, 23-A60) The peak was in 81 & 82 with 98 corps attending both years. Interesting enough the following year in 83 only 51 corps made the trip.
  8. No not really, but for the most part everyone sticks to the 150 DCI rule. Or is Open still at 135, don't know.....it could all not matter in a few months Congrats on the addion to your Org. Your Org. have a name?
  9. Bob we have 3 Classes: WORLD, OPEN & A no Class "B" (unless your one of those FANFARE corps)...........................just a joke guys
  10. Here are the current 3 corps Organizations that will be competing for Org. of the year. If you don't like the title of your org. that I made up for you, by all means give me one, but if you didn't have one, I gave you one. Keep in mind that not all of these corps have their tours and/or captions in yet, so we'll see how many we have by the beginning of the season.
  11. Ok, say this thing passes. Open Class corps can participate in championships if they want to. Where? This would effectively kill an Open division, so what, is Quarterfinals an open event. Any corps competes in Quarterfinals? What happens when an Open Class corps makes Semis? Would they have to do it 3 years in a row before the G7 grants them Regional A status?
  12. Well considering my "A" corps has only won 1 regional in 13 seasons, a top 3 placement is fine with me early season. I've gone into regionals "Red Hot" and usually end up 2nd or 4th. Then again I'm always in the tough West regional, moving may change my luck.
  13. Uummmm. Maybe a switch to the South Regional will get more Sweepstake points? Pondering
  14. With less than a month before opening night, corps numbers are down for a live season. Directors get off your tush and get your corps registered!! Season.........World..............Open............A..........Total ...2...................35...................17.............12.............64 ...4...................45...................22.............18.............85 ...6...................43...................24.............13.............80 ...8...................35...................21.............21.............77 ...10.................59...................31.............27.............117 ...12.................73...................46.............43.............162 ...14.................35...................25.............24.............84
  15. It happens all the time. Back in 90 Jack Mehan was teaching VK and Crossmen. Infact since we had the same warmups once we met up with them in the south we did some combined hornline stuff. It was pretty cool.
  16. You missed SCV and then a clip from 87 Garfield. Basicly showing the 2 interpretations of the same piece.
  17. According to the DCW Fcebook post "We will report on what went on -- as we understand it -- in the June issue, and then plan to continue to expand upon the story online as news becomes available." So when does the June issue come out?
  18. I'm going, but can't decide which theater to go to. The one closest to my house only had about 15 people last time = no fun. Irvine Spectrum is where the big crowds are but it's more of a drive.
  19. Everyone is talking about "paying" the members. I would considered being paid if for the season I had no out of pocket expences. Meaning your payment is the fact that there are no member fees. If drum corps could just get to that level, that would be cool.
  20. On page 3 of the corps registration thread, Crimson Regiment is registered as a Class A corps, yet you have them as an Open Class corps. Which is it?
  21. For any Lost fans out there that own or can borrow the Season 4 DVDs, there is an whole extra feature on the music that is pretty cool. I orginally had the idea for this show a couple of seasons ago, but with the events of last season, it finally fit.
  22. "Offsides. side one...........ten pushups!"
