I love how early Troopers announce their show relative to other corps. Prospective members know what they are getting into and fans get excited for it. I respect the Bluecoats approach to show announcements, I just prefer it earlier like Troopers do.

All Colts designers and caption heads are returning. I wonder if they’ll continue to move up with that consistency.

Do we even know how much these props cost? Just because they look complex doesn’t necessarily mean more expensive.

2010 was activity changing. 2014 was a masterpiece. The vibe seems right to me based on the direction Troopers probably want to be heading. Obviously the weakest section of 2023 and possibly 2022 as well. Simply improving the guard could move the corps up even if all other captions stay the same.

Daffinee Is a great hire! He’s done great work with the highest end of Texas band. I would expect his work for Cavaliers to be great. Curious if the percussion, battery mostly, will be featured so prominently throughout the show again. Got a good section, might as well feature them!

Onyx has a very distinct style of movement that seems quite unique compared to most others in WGI. The look reminds me more of a contemporary dance company than a winter guard. Lots of sharp, aggressive, angular motions with very interesting uses of the body and equipment in space. All of that reminds me of the look, feel, and sound Troopers has been going for, so I think this will be a great fit!

Interesting! A couple questions come up for me: Playing while marching isn’t easy, neither is choreography, but is for sure a distinct skill. Did Troopers, Crown, and Cadets get appropriately credited for this difficulty? The crowd seemed to favor groups on the lower end of the scale, like Mandarins and Phantom. Is that the direction the activity as a whole is headed? There’s some variety within the finalists and their placements. Would we notice if they were all 20%? Would we like it?

From what I understand, it’s classified as a free wind instrument, not a woodwind. Similar to the concertina Boston used in 2022
