  2. QUOTE(CoHmempho04 @ Jun 6 2007, 01:23 PM) DCI.ORG has finals video from 2006, upcoming shows, latest scores and latest news on each corps. Cool
  3. 1999 Madison Scouts has awesome crowd response as does SCV 2004
  4. Hi DCP Staff, I take part in several hobbies (Drum corps being one them) and all of them communicate upcoming events and information via the web. My request to DCP is to create a separate Forum for DCI Finals. So basically at a certain point during the new drum corps year (May...possibly) open up a forum specifically designed for posting information in regards to that years DCI Finals. So the name of this years forum would be "DCI Pasadena". People will be able to access information regarding hotels, places to eat, schedules of events and a whole host of other topics "Specific" to DCI Finals in once organized. This format is used by other organizations and it works quite well. Maybe something similar could be created for Major Event shows as well. PS Not sure if this has been suggested or done before on DCP.......
  5. 1987 Phantom Regiment (First time I say them live) for me. They blew the stands back a few feet. The drumline was nothing short of amazing... 1994 Phantom Regiment played one the best ballads every.....
  6. I know everyone is poking fun at my original post and thats alright.....a laugh or two doesn't hurt. But kind of what I was looking for (As I am sure others are) is listed below, ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I saw the run through last night in Baraboo. Opening walk onto field is really cool while singing and playing Uninvited. The Sound of the vocals is quite nice. Its dark and deep. My girlfriend is new to Drum Corps and thought the vocals were very well done and really fit Madisons intro. Pit plays while Corps and DM are introduced then they break into Kashmir with a big opening hit. Corps seems to have a ton of energy and enthusiasm. As for the performance, its early but I saw and heard some very nice things being so early. Mellos and Contras are strong sound wise but I was looking for a bit more out of the Trumpets. Timing was an issue as the Corps spread the field but Id be pretty sure most Corps have the same issue this time of year. Scouts music is great and I think when this show is at its peak, the drum corps fans will LOVE IT. Also, there were a few trumpet/mello runs in Kashmir that sounded oh so MADISON. Really looking forward to the finished product. Drums were thin. Counted 8 Snare, 2 Tenors and 5 Bass. Im sure there were some missing. Pit sounded great. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now thats a report......... :P
  7. Thanks for posting detailed comments about what you saw and heard out of the Scouts. Getting information from people about what they have seen and heard at a pracitce is like pulling teeth... I listened to the sound clips and look foward to seeing this show.
  8. I think a little corps called The Cadets (Of Allentown, pa) might have something to say about this........ :P :P :P
  9. I will say the 1986 Sky Ryders..........GREAT show
  10. Ok......so in the review section there are two reviews of the Memorial Brass Concert (One of them being mine) and a review of the Racine show. You cant tell me that no one else saw drum corps LIVE over this past weekend. I saw some comments in the "First Goosebumps of 2007" post about Bluecoats and a few others. Come on folks.....tell us something. What does the music sound like? How many members are there? Dont be lazy..post something :P ........... .........
  11. Just listened to the clip. This must have been either an early May recording or a really bad run of the tune. I saw the Cadets on Sunday night at their indoor show (5/27) and the brassline "cooked" the whole show. I also heard the Cadets play outside at a parade and they sounded dark, powerful and balanced. As for the show.....well most of you probably know that I dont like narration of any kind. Its distracting and unecessary.....
  12. I feel you are greatly flawed in your assesment. I am against WW in drum corps. I like the all-brass and percussion sound. Open a poll for this and I am sure you will find that most who are against WW's will say the same basic thing. How many opportunities are there for WW players to perform in groups that include WW instrumentation? How many opportunities are there for people to perform in an all-brass/perc. group ? DC is unique.....and should remain so.....nothing else sounds like it.
  13. Memorial Brass Concert; Allentown First to perform was the Cadets Brassline. They performed America the Beautiful, Theme from the movie Back to the Future and Don’t Stop Thinking about Tomorrow. All very well done and America had a “Really loud” (Maybe FF) first note. Next up was the Creative Arts High School Jazz Band from Camden, NJ This group played three very difficult jazz charts and recently performed at the Berklee School of Music Annual Jazz festival in Boston MA. All soloists were great and in particular a trumpet player named Charlene Boone. The Crossmen were not able to make it to the show. They are hard at work on their 2007 production in San Ant. Texas. A video of the corps was shown from their practice facility in Texas. The video also featured the musical ensemble performing their Opener. It was kind of hard to make it out. In the beginning of the opener there is a short medley of past songs. Then the main opener starts…..kind of a goodbye to the old and hello to the new sort of thing. The opener doesn’t sound very jazzy but again it was a bit hard to make out. Looked like they had 54 horns and 7 snare. The Cadets brassline came out again and played another three selections. Shenandoah, Yesterday and a song from their 1993 show “On a Hymn Song of Phillip Bliss”. Again all songs were played real well and the first huge brass impact of the night came at the end of On a Hymn Song of Phillip Bliss Next up was the Xcape Dance Ensemble with the Elite Marching Band The dance troop had quite a vast age range of members and they danced to a recording of dance music. The marching band consisted of approx. 2 quads, 2 bass drums and 8 tom drums. This group had their own dance troop. The finale featured both dance troops along with the drums. All groups did a great job and it is really encouraging seeing kids participate is something as positive as this. Good job. Next up was the Cadets color guard, which performed to the song Someones there by Harry Connick Jr. The guard did ok but I was actually a bit surprised that they were not more together. I have never seen them this off. Their caption-head stated that the guard has a lot of new members so it seems that this will be a rebuilding season of sorts for them. The Quakertown Community High School Symphony Band was next. They had a large group and sounded really nice. Very good intonation overall. One of the pieces they played was Exultate by Samuel Hazo. It sounded so much like the song Ride. I was a little disappointed that they did not play anything with a patriotic theme….sounded like they played their competition pieces. Good job. With a show titled “I Believe This” Next was the 2007 edition of The Cadets It only takes a moment or so before you realize that they are exploring narration again this season. The opener starts strong and fast and the brassline is playing really well for this time of the season. The upper brass in particular stood out as being really confident…..Even through some of the most difficult music. Blue Shades is the second piece and they act out (Through narration and song) a rehearsal session. Comments like Do it again and push to the max are the type (Not exact) of comments throughout. During the kick back jazz section of the piece is where the hornline really lets loose. I think they surprised everyone at that point of the song with their intensity. The show keeps trucking along at a brisk pace, the drumline plays a feature. The show overall is very fast and demanding. I would have to guess that there will be some rewrites. I did not hear a ballad so……should be interesting to see what happens. Since this is a hot topic….. Narration: 4 hornline players leave the ensemble and speak in to mics. This occurs a couple of times during most songs. During Blue Shades, the pit members perform the narration via headsets. At this point, the Cadets are presenting more narration than most previous shows. BD 2005 still has the most to date....... Hope you got something out of this review......I wrote it kind of quick.....
  14. Why does this have to spin off from the DCI organization? Why cant someone go off and start their own brand new circuit? If they want it bad enough....go start it up. Why tamper with something that is doing fairly well as is? I know why they wont.....they don't want to take the risk and it is much easier to jump on the coat tails of something that is already established. Adding woodwinds would be foolish in my opinion. A whole host of fans will bail if woodwinds are allowed....period. Will DCI be able to attract enough new fans to make up for the ones that leave ? That is an interesting question that I dont believe anyone can answer. My opinion is that they wont......especially the folks who fill the premo seats at the big events......
  15. :P :P This judge provides some interesting comments at 8:13 on the recording...... :P
  16. Yup you did. Both the Star of Indiana (DCI div.) and the Hawthorne Caballeros (DCA div.) won the Hershey, pa show in 1992. I remember that night very well. It was a full retreat and after the results were announced all the corps left the field except the two winners. Both of our corps took turns playing music for each other......it was "Really cool" It was the first time I heard Star play "When you Wish upon a Star" I saw you guys in the rain at Giant Stadium as well that season.
  17. I would say Star of Indiana (I like 92's line). Unique and quality sound with a great big dynamic window. Star had an amazing ability to play so soft ( p and pp maybe even ppp). It is unmatched to date.
  18. 1.Cell phone ringing/use during a corps performance 2.Lack of customer service when calling the DCI office (Every year). 3.Amps & narration and anyone who wants to change DC instrumentation 4.Drum speak 5.In 1988 BD finishing 3rd 6.crown's TOGAS 7.Cavaliers Fight Club (2002) 8.In 2002 people thinking the Cadets were playing on the emotions of 9/11 for an edge in GE points/placement 9.Show announcements/writeups that are way over the top (Most of them these days) 10.NOt being able to get a hot pretzel at DCI 2003. The closest I got was during an intermission. The lady said they would have pretzels in about 5 minutes. I waited 10 minutes. Couldn't get a pretzel and missed getting up to my seat in time to see BAC during their finals performance (Saw you in semi and quarters though).
  19. 1. 1986 - My favorite junior corps show ever 2. 1988 - Really awesome....super sopranos 3. 1993 - When listening to this line there was little doubt that 1994 was going to be a good year for the Blu Crew
  20. My prediction is that my official predictions will be coming out on July 4th.......just like every other season...
  21. There must be something about the Madison Scouts.......I believe is was shortly after their 2000 season that the movie Castaway came out.....and one of the songs in the film was from Madison 2000 show......
  22. I agree with you supersop. Dave Gibbs Stated "We would like to be the ones that first distribute the content and allow our fans to access the video and audio. At that point, we hope our customers follow the applicable rules and laws when we make that material available to the consumer. " This makes me feel that this is a tad less about legalities and more about the fact that they did NOT want anyone to steal there thunder. Its funny.....these corps (BD being one of them) talk about how they want to push this activity in to the next level and keep advancing and then they go and snuff out something like this. I guess all they want to do is have their cake and eat it to. Big shocker huh? PS If the Blue Devils did NOT want this to show up on the web, it should have been mentioned several times during the concert....just like at all other drum corps shows.
  23. Ditto.....wake up west coasters. What is BD playing ? How did everyone sound ?
  24. I seem to remember them having all sorts of marching issues that season. I think that most of their drill was re-written just after the season started. Everyone remember SCV in 2000? And all the drill issues they had ?
  25. The Cadets 2003 moving warmup is on the dvd's/tapes. I would guess they will include everything the corps performs......
