  1. And the Orange Bowl STILL does not look that good, nor has it. That's the Citrus Bowl... in Orlando. And Emma, I HOPE that you are not planting your butt in the aforementioned seat... you prolly won't see too many 'Canes games there, and the UCF students may think that you are a bit out of place... :P
  2. Gotta throw a couple of pennies in here... To those who want an "only 2000 and newer" or "only 1968 AFL Nationals", keep in mind that those are your tastes. Personally, I would LURVE me a "Best of the 80's" Countdown, that would rock, but who's to say that anyone else would? Now for not announcing who is in the show, ummm.... no. Good idea on paper I suppose, but allowing for the fact that some folks have to drive quite a ways to a participating theatre, I would think that they just might be upset if the lineup was not their cup of tea. How many of us drive out to a real DC show without knowing the lineup? As for ideas... a little biased here, but how about a "Classic Countdown: Gone but not Forgetten" Not sure how you work the decades thing, but I would love to see a showcase that could include the best from: Star Bridgemen Suncoast Freelancers VK 27 Sky Ryders Dutch Boy (I know that the org is still around, but you know what I mean) Florida Wave Muchacos etc..... </KeithHall>
  3. Dude, us CBAs don't need to prove our manhood by squeaking stuff 8va. We do that by picking up the horn. Anyway, the lineup for our show is Pagliacci, Land of Make Believe, a kick arse arrangement of My Favorite Things, Summer of '42, and In the Stone. It's easily the best brassline I have been in, and having Larry Kerchner and Matt Krepansky as the brass techs does not suck. You should come up to Allentown to check us out, it's a blast. </threadjack>
  4. Yep, the only time in my 3 year DC career that I broke 90. Oh well. How's it going, schlonger. Did you hear that I am wearing the banana suit this summer?
  5. Without a doubt, semis was the performance of the year, by far. We tore the place up that night. Likewise with 88, MUCH better on Friday than Saturday. Oh well...
  6. Vic, Words cannot express my feelings for you and your family right now. I know how much your father meant to you, to the Hurricanes, and to all that knew him. Please know that I am thinking of you in this tough time. Be strong.
  7. Dude, z sucks. Back in 1903, Z kicked arse, without amplification either! I would put Z up against ANY letter from modern times, and I GUARANTEE it would finish top 3!
  8. WRT the Alto question, the three years that I marched Suncoast we would have half flugels and half mellophones, and the section was referred to as the Alto line.
  9. Quite possibly the best, most reasoned out, mature post I have seen in QUITE some time wrt the "wedge issue" that is A&E. While personally I am not a fan, I was somewhat surprised by the fact that I actually enjoy Cadets program last year, even with the vocals. I would even go so far as to say that they added much to the Machine segment. Having said that, my favorite corps (BD) won't get much 2005 love from me, I just didn't like it. It was too much. Anyway, great attitude Jonathan, and a lot of folks ON BOTH SIDES of the issue here on ol' DCP would be wise to take something out of it. BTW, to stay somewhat on topic, I like the ballad, and am curious to see what happens with the vocals, but I am concerned on two fronts: 1. Having one person, however talented, contribute what looks to be a major part of the piece (I know, I know, soloists have been doing it for years, but this IS different) (caveat: of course, this is going with the assumption that it WILL be a vocal soloist and not something else) and 2. In the two years of amped vocals we have seen so far, the sound quality of the amplified voice is, well, not the best. It is often too loud, and sounds like announcements at my kid's school PTA meetings. This is not a knock on the performers as much as a concern about the hardware being used. Anyway, I am interested to see how it plays out...
  10. Easy, 85 and 86. 85 for their departure from the norm, and MAN did that book (Liferaft Earth, Trilogy, Karn Evil 9, 1st Piano Concerto and First Circle) ROCK, then, well, 86. Enough said. Runners up: 93 - 94 79 - 80 03 - 04
  11. Hey, for a youngun, those are some excellent choices. Not a bad lineup to sit through, I must say...
  12. 88 gets the vote by a whisker (or piece of tape) over 84... by .1 (Right Sam?) 85 Just can't get out of 3rd place, but man, I love that show too... ^0^
  13. Yep, that was us. And let me tell you... after spending 2 full, 12 hour + days filming, I have NO desire to be a "movie star". Not so much on the fun, that.
  14. Ok, put mine in: 1975 27th Lancers 1977 Bridgeman 1984 Suncoast Sound 1986 Suncoast Sound 1988 Suncoast Sound 1989 Phantom Regiment 1990 Blue Devils 1993 Phantom Regiment 1993 Madison Scouts 1999 Santa Clara Vanguard 2001 The Cavaliers 2002 Bluecoats I know, I know, voting for the same corps may "cancel them out" but I couldn't pick just one, call me a homer.
  15. Call it what you want, but I have always been one to get into it in the line. Sometimes the tunes just get you going. Wait 'till you see Bridgemen this year, I am guessing that more than a few of us will be "undulating". I agree that if it is choreographed, it's lame. But just watch the end of La Fiesta (BD '84) from the sop trio on out. There is an AWESOME field level shot of the horns marching in behind the trio, and when they "park and bark" there's not a one standing up straight. And it did nothing to harm their sound....
  16. Steph, you are correct, in that the 84 show was by far one of the most emotional shows EVER in DC. However, the videos of the closer do it absolutely NO justice, not showing the most impactful moments ***ahemFLagDrillahem*** (instead choosing to do a close up of the American flag.... FLYING OUTSIDE THE STADIUM!!!!) I also agree with your later post... need to see some Suncoast this time around (and some BRIDGEMEN!!!) ((AND SOME 27!!! ...although I would vote for '82))
  17. Hey all.... I have recently purchased IPB for a charity that my wife has setup. We are having a devil of a time installing it. Anyone with some IPB experience who could point me in the right direction for some help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  18. As much as I dig the love for Suncoast 85, I would personally suggest 86, 88, 84 or 83 (in that order). The 85 show was a musical treat, but the visual, not so much. And the guard uni's.... ampssuck 86 Suncoast was the corps at the top of their game, with an incredible book and very clean, classy visual. 88, while dirty, was a complete new direction for us visually, and still remains one of the classic underrated shows of all time (not to mention one of the most influential) 84 was simply stunning in it's emotion, especially from Requiem to the end of the show. The only issue here is that the DCI camera crew blew the entire end of the show 83 is one of those shows that not many people know, but the opener is incredible (Time Out), the introduction of Aquarius, and the last year for Greatest Love. This is a corps that finished 13th in 82 and beat Madison in semis (came in 5th, 6th in Finals)
  19. Well, there was the old "Through the Years" Series that DCI released. The one I have has Suncoast 82-89 and, since most of the Through The Years series were 2 tapes (VHS) they filled out the second tape with this corps called Star of Indiana. Ever heard of 'em? :) It has their shows 85-91 IIRC.
  20. I guess this is one of those things that goes back and forth... I know that my HS was using Spider as a cadence back in 82-83, and that Campese was there... I don't profess to know who actually wrote it though.
  21. Yep, her name was Chris... don't remember her last name, but she was from Largo HS. They had another girl on bass in the incredible 85 and 86 lines, top bass IIRC. Spider... love it. Not only was it Suncoast's street beat, but also MY HS, wayyy back in the day.. In fact, the guy who pretty much wrote the groove (John Campese) was on staff at my HS. Just saw him at finals in Boston, great guy.
  22. Man... this will be fun! Freelancers 83 DM - That guy was GROOVIN! Freelancers 84 DM "We got something you're really gonna like... HERE IT IS!" Madison 84 Tympani Player "OOOOOOOOHHHHH YEAHHHHH" BD 84 - Jeff Voorhees - the pit dude with the Flock of Seagulls Hair that just LOVED hitting ride cymbals in La Fiesta; The member of the sop trio that got the badazz closeup and the end of La Fiesta (and who looked to be all of 35); some sop guy with tape on his shoe in the closer that got BD beat that night... (Sorry Sam ^0^ ) Cadets 83-84 Barbara Moroney, still the most beautiful mello solos ever BD 86 Sop solosit for the Channel One ballad, that guy FILLED Camp Randall with sound Star 86 (87...) DM Becky something... CUTIE PR 96 Kristy Spears - DM - The emotion as the corps is building to thier first DCI title... and another CUTIE! Oh sooooo many more... just have to get back to work...
