  1. Agreed - that's why I said "Comparing your era" intead of saying "complaining about..." Also belong to the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America). As in Drum Corps a lot of fun and good info can come from comparisions between eras. And I've never heard anyone say "Model A Fords suck because they didn't have an automatic trannie". :P
  2. I seem to remember reading about a Senior corps from a certain SW corner of PA that also kept their name when promised sponsorship fell thru. Now who was that corps again.....
  3. And in 20 years, you'll be one of the "olde phartes" comparing your era to DC in 2026. :)
  4. And sometimes the skins are so thin just by saying you like something from one era over another you can get someone upset. Got flamed last year when I compared 1978 DCI shows to today and said I liked some 1978 things over today. The next page or so was a discussion of "person preferences" vs "insults/slamming" which was led by soem of the cooler heads on DCP. (Still owe a drink to a few of 'em.)
  5. Ray, only thing I thought of is to pull up the blog using the link in Nancis signature. Then click on each individual day listed on the right. Hope this works for me as I want to start downloading each days "stuff" to a CD.
  6. Well I can get a free egg sandwich from the Legion before my first parade of the day. Can't remember if it comes with bacon. Too #### early in the AM on my days off. #### bet I won't be able to remember the (40 mile) drive down by the next day. (How did that mailbox get stuck in my grill? )
  7. Contra gals also play in Alumni corps. Won't give names as I haven't been able to ask permission. PS - My 5' 4" sister played (brass) tuba in MB. The school needed lower brass and she bet the band director (ex-DC member) that she could go from trombone to tuba without much effort. What the BD didn't know was sis had bought a used P/R contra and already knew the fingerings and had a set of contra chops. (Too bad she never joined corps.)
  8. Flashbacks of seeing a couple necking in the parking lot... "GET A ROOM YOU TWO!!!" ^0^ :P Funny part is most of us live within a hour hour or so drive of each other.
  9. Needed about 3 more cups of coffee before I posted. ####, #### and #### I'm old enough to remember hearing that flippin' song when it was on Saturday morning TV for the first go 'round (ca 1965). Beat the crap outta the Fantastic Fours music. :P I just never heard it when I was armrest crawling. Then again I might have been too busy trying not to break my neck. (Plus I was on the lollipop bus anyway. :( )
  10. Also understand our refineries are behind in maintenance and upgrades. Guess too much $$$$ would be lost to shut down for a few months for modifications.
  11. Never heard that one. Heard "WTF are you doing?" more than once. My response was "Making sure I don't have to #### on your head". :sshh: Sop in Lancers told me they used to put a small bass drum in the aisle and use it as a card table for poker. Worked great until one of the bus drivers had a hissy over it and made them put it underneath.
  12. Edit: Replying to kansasDC post on Div II/III closeness.. Here's a sad one from DCA last year. During Prelims one of the Kilties passed away on the field. Next night before Finals we were at the Govies souvie table when one of the Kilties (souvie?) people came over. The Kilties were handing out plaid ribbons for all the Midwest corps souvie people to wear in memory of Lothar, the Kiltie who passed away. The Govie souvie person then asked us if we would mind waiting an extra minute because he wanted to put the ribbon on right away. We didn't mind and told both of them we were glad to be present to witness it. (Can't even put my feelings in words at this moment.)
  13. Went to DCA Prelims at Allentown back in the 80s a few times and some of the best "DC Family" spirit was in the souvie area. (End of the walkway between the two decks.) Couple of different years I heard souvie people offer to watch another corps table so those souvie people could watch their corps shows. Can't remember corps names anymore but at least one was a top 10 corps offering to watch for a new corps that would not make Finals. ("We'll watch your stuff. C'mon, you can't miss your corps the first time here.")
  14. I had walking on the armrests down to a science. Only problem was when some poor bastich had their head laying there. Crunch... Ooops.....
  15. Thanks, will check when I get a chance..... 60 inches will put the thing right at my nose level.
  16. Yeah but the more front you are, the farther away you are from the bus Whizz Room. And the older you get, the more trips you need. :( Just took a bus trip from Hanover to Winchester, VA for a parade. Thank goodness I didn't have to do any Cooler surfing to get to the ######. But another ex-Westshoremen and I had a quick talk about those days.
  17. Been using my standard cheapo silver fold up music stand for practice with the corps and alone at home. Problem is I stand to play both places and even at my less than average height of 5' 6" I have to angle my horn down to see the music. (And the friggin' bifocals really add to the problem. :( ) Anyone know where to look for stands that go up higher? It's really screwing up my posture and air flow when I practice at home. And I hate to play sitting down. Thanks in advance...... Edit: Oh crap, see I forgot to put "Looking For" in the title. Sorry for anyone who thought this thread would help. (Need more coffe....)
  18. LOL as 1972 Cru is one of my favorites to listen to. And I never even saw the field show as I had not discovered DC yet. On topic question: Which Jr corps were "connected" to what Srs. Sounds like a St Joes to Crusaders and Muchachos to Cabs connection but who else? Wondering because theye were no Jrs to speak of around Harrisburg so Westshore was on their own.
  19. All I heard about the Jr/Sr connection way back when was the one time we talked to a Hawthorne Muchacho in 1976 or 1977. He was an age-out and we asked if he was going to keep doing corps in a Sr unit. Response was the age-outs continuing were going to the Cabs except for him. He was going to Sky 'case he was sick of "playing that Spanish crap". :P Think Muchachos were sponsored by AL Post #199 so BIG connection there. PS - Don't shoot the messenger.
  20. Sounds like the cruise we just went on. Day before the end the cruise director (Canadian, eh?) gave us first timers instructions on what to do when we leave. Customs instructions: "Good news is you can buy Cuban cigars and keep them on you" "Bad news is you can't bring them into the US. And Peurto Rico IS part of the US" "We will have a Puff 'til you Puke party tonight to help you get rid of the Cubans" Last morning overheard following: "Who the #### would buy a bunch of island weed just before we dock. Those ######s (no idea which ######s) were toking so much it kept coming into our room." Must have been the same yo-yos who dropped a bag of weed on the dock at Barbados. At least it looked like weed as I walked by it. ("Heh, someone dropped something..... OH ####... keep walking Jim".)
  21. Kinda remember the whole horn line coming off the field after the 1977 Hershey fiasco with that "deer caught in the headlights" look. Then we all looked at each other like "WTF was THAT!?!?!". Then someone had to ask "Is that going to be on the record?" ampssuck 1970s Westshore definitely had a snakebit reputation. IOW, whenever something started to look good, something bad would happen to screw it up. Think the corps missed making Finals in 1972 due to another DM error. Will have to check the scores but that's the story I heard from Bob Sprenkle (tenor drummer). And of course the corps went inactive for a while after '72 DCA.
  22. LMAO, well let's not bring up 1975 Prelims. Know I was on the "wrong" side that year. In that case it was a honest field DM error. Still not sure what happened at Hershey. Kind of an echo chamber effect as you could hear the other side of the horn line playing in between notes. Whole corps was facing the main DM and still was screwing up royally. (And how many weeks until we were going to try to make top 10 at DCA? :sshh: )
  23. Not a good night for recording (Bugles Opus One) at Hershey. Westshoremen fell apart a bit on the final drive of the show (Chicagos Been Searching So Long). Supposedly Hershman begged the recording engineer to *ahem* perform some "studio magic" to hide it. Hard to tell but it's there if you know what to listen for. Think half the horn line was a step or two off from the other side. But my side had it right
  24. Really hope to Fran but if I have any more "Life Happens" weeks like the last two...... :( OK enough whinning, two years ago I bought a 1940 era one valve Bari and joked that if I ever found music of that time period I'd play it. Open mouth, insert foot as I found two 1930 Ludwig DC manuals with sheet music in the back. Way things are going I might have to read the music instead of memorizing but don't think that's against the rules. (Like I really care about what score I'd get :P ) Funniest part is I have never attended I&E so I am REALLY going in unprepared. Since shows have names today maybe I should title mine "Limited amount of valves and notes for a limited amount of talent". ^0^ :P
  25. Spring Surprise ^0^ Note to self: Oh crap, time to put up or shut up Jimbo......
