  1. Anybody who gets up in the middle of a competition specifically for the reason of skipping the performance of ANY corps is completely ignorant. Just ignorant. I don't care if you LIKE the performance or not. That's not the issue. I have sat and watched and applauded many shows that I didn't like. I did that to show support to the members of the corps. It is just plain stupid to "go get a hot dog" during the performance of the Cadets or any other corps. I can't believe the rudeness of such a gesture...
  2. If you didn't watch the show, you lost the right to comment on it...
  3. I like everything that the Cadets march and play this year. In fact, I REALLY like it! Once they begin to perform it better, their scores will show it. But I have to agree with G. The uniforms are a good concept, but poorly executed. They look like they were created by a kindergartner. The props also don't look that great. And why did the picnic tables need to be pink? It just makes everything look cheap. And I like the concept of the door, but it still looks cheap also. In contrast, the Cavaliers have some really WILD guard uniforms this year. But they are obviously made well, and they don't have a cheap look about them... Again, I really like what the Cadets are doing and trying to do. It's the way they're doing it that I don't like. There is a classiness that's missing, IMO. And it doesn't have anything to do with the performers. The blame rests almost entirely with whoever designed the ugly stuff!
  4. I will take Cavies by .1 It's difficult to make an assessment based on a streaming telecast though.
  5. This whole thing is WAY cool. I'm so glad I got the Season Pass!
  6. This is such a great response!!! Congratulations to you and the rest of the corps.
  7. Judges do NOT have the ability to give scores down to the hundredth. The only reason it shows up that way on the recap sheet is become some captions are averaged together. Yeah, the old tick system was a GREAT idea... Umm, yeah. Good idea. Let's go back to the old system where nobody ever tried anything difficult. Let's go back to the old shows where there was a "concert" selection and "park-and-blow" for minutes on end. Why are people getting so hung up on the scores??? If you like Cavies and PR, why is it not enough to just go on loving their shows?? The fact that they didn't win doesn't diminish their seasons of hard work. Ten years from now, nobody will care about the scores anymore. In fact, nobody will care about the placements either. People will only care about which shows were their personal favorites. For some it will be the Cadets. For others it will be the Cavaliers or Phantom. Maybe even SCV, Bluecoats, Crossmen, Southwind, or whoever. Scores and placements isn't what creates a classic show...
  8. I loved them too!!!!! I just wish they would replace the goddawful black uniforms. Seeing their clip of 1992 during the cinecast reinforced my desire to see something like that again.
  9. I like the brass, I like the percussion, and I like the guard. The narration isn't really NECESSARY, but I don't HATE it. The show and the way they play it ENTERTAINS me!! :) Just thought I would put those thoughts in writing, for those who care.
  10. Totally 100% correct. And that includes people in the stands that complain about the narration. Narration would be far less annoying if people wouldn't boo and make loud comments about it. That's disrespectful to the performers. Discuss AFTER the show, not during.
  11. I was at Harrisburg, PA. Sound was great. More bass than last year, and the surround was great too. Camera angles and selection was questionable at times, but this was their "practice" round. Well worth the $15. Still nothing compared to seeing it in person though.
  12. I have listened to the San Antonio APDs, went to Allentown like always, and watched the cinecast last night. Fan reaction to this show is not bad, it's just different. People stand up and whoop and holler during individual small parts of the show. But at the end of each piece, reaction is not that loud. It's like the show just doesn't call for it. People DO like it. Last night in the theater, there was more positive talk about this show than about any other. There was also more negative talk about this show than any other. People seem to be very passionate about it. They do have tons of demand, and they do have excellent performance levels - especially the drumline. As for the 1.55 point spread - Cavies are very close in everything. But close is not good enough. When you're close without winning captions, tenths of points add up pretty quickly. Anyway, GOOD JOB TO EVERYONE!!
  13. You obviously haven't seen the shows. Blue Devils DO use narration to broadcast the point of their show. And it probably isn't even necessary - the show is easy to understand by itself - it's a dance derby! Cadets did NOT add Cliffs Notes throughout the show. There is narration at the beginning ONLY, to explain the door. There is "drumspeak" in the middle of the show, but not narration. Even if you count the drumspeak as narration, there is far less of it than in Blue Devils show.
  14. Very good!!! Now, what year did he say it? I'm guessing 1990...
  15. This is the kind of show like Star '93. It may take lots of repeated viewings (possibly over several years) to be appreciated by everyone. It is definitely very strange, but not necessarily in a bad way. My advice is, don't dismiss it because it is weird. Like Marc Sylvester once said, "There may be moments that are uncomfortable/unexpected. Grab onto them, because those are the best ones."
  16. BTW, I liked the BD show this year... The narration is not necessary, and at times it is distracting. There are almost always certain aspects of any show that I would do differently. But I think this whole thing is getting blown out of proportion.
  17. I think it'd be cool to see PR win. I wanna see the place go completely bonkers!! But honestly, it doesn't matter to me which show wins.
  18. I'm confused. Cadets' guard was pretty good in all those years. I do agree, PR's guard is gorgeous this year. They have a shot.
  19. Hardly a top 12 show? Wow, if that is an opinion that is shared by others, then maybe MY OWN opinions are what is out of whack. Personally, I think the show is very exciting. Sure, not as exciting as SCV, BD, and Cavies. But certainly not "pedestrian" either. As for the influence of reputation and political clout, those advantages are normally more prominant in the area of general effect, not performance. The reason for that is that general effect tends to be a more opinionated thing, and performance is more standardly defined. And looking at the score sheet, the Cadets scored quite a bit lower in general effect, while they were nearly equal to SCV in performance captions (not including percussion). So this would seem to suggest that polical clout is not helping them much.
  20. Guilty by association... Yes, that's probably the reason... Almost like people blaming George W. Bush for all the ills of the world... I don't get the logic. If people disagree with the use of amplification, why did some of those same people cheer for Crown and BAC, while they booed for the Cadets?
  21. Why, oh why, do people disrespect the Cadets so much?? I just don't get it. I was at the Harrisburg telecast last night, and people around me just went totally sour when the Cadets took the field. First, they were annoyed with a harmless pep talk. Then they failed to acknowledge what is obviously a very talented group of kids. People wouldn't even clap after the most exciting moments!!!!! <**> I find this type of behavior disgusting. You know, people used to act this way towards Star of Indiana. Star ended up leaving. Star is GONE from the field now. And the irony is, FINALLY people are respecting what Star did when they were in DCI. Would it take the Cadets leaving DCI to earn people's respect?
  22. The Madison pinwheel was not even close to being straight when it rotated. That is why it was a joke. I never understood why the beginning of that gets such "ooohs" and "ahhhhs" anyway. They line up on freakin yard line, and everyone marvels at how straight the line is. A h.s. band can do that. If the rotating part was actually straight, I would be more impressed. But it wasn't, so I wasn't.
