  1. I'll go by Corps, since that's easier for me. Madison 1997, 1999 Blue Devils 1994, 1992 Cavaliers 1995 Star of Indiana 1991, 1993 Cadets 1989 (I think that's the year they did Les Mis? So entertaining), 1998 Crossmen 1992 that's 10 shows I believe. I just realized I don't know many drum corps shows outside of my lifetime....I should get on that.
  2. some former president died while we were on tour between 2004-2006. don't remember who. I just remember it being a big deal. (It's the first day of break, and I clearly can't think straight right now). also...... Bob Barker died.
  3. That's a great way to put it Dave. There are ups and downs in every activity, including drum corps. The only way to fix a problem is to address it. The first step to addressing a problem is recognizing that there is one. I think the activity will come out of this, but it will take time and a lot of effort.
  4. hmmm, been a while for one of these threads. I'll pick a couple. Madison 1998 is my all time favorite closer. Phantom 2003 is pretty bad###. Probably what saved that show for me. Madison 1997....how can someone not pick this. Star of Indiana 1991 or 1993, take your pick. Both amazing.
  5. At least it was uneventful in Rochester. Not so much here in Ithaca. I'm interested in seeing what went down at the meeting as well, 'twill be interesting.
  6. 1. One of racing's biggest events is in New Hampshire........ 2. I like the uniforms. White/cream unis aren't hard to keep clean as long as they don't kneel during the show. The teal pants will have much of the same effect the green ones had for ECJ and SCVC. I like the design, I like the look of the cut. It all looks good, so it should look pretty #### cool out on the field. Good luck teal.
  7. so I know you guys had rehearsal today. How'd it go? I found out the show but nothing else. I want some details!
  8. wow, has it been 10 years already. I remember Revo's first trip to DCI championships. Good luck this year...that's a great group of composers. I'm interested in seeing which tunes you use.
  9. it does indeed seem like the year of the requiem. however, there are some great choices in here. The only thing that could have made me like this program more is if part of Gabriel Faure's Requiem was included. The Agnus Dei and Libera Me from that piece are perfect for drum corps I think.
  10. I might actually be making the trek from Ithaca. I love the corps too much to stay away.
  11. Drum corps fans wouldn't be fans if the activity wasn't as entertaining as it is. No matter what you like, you can hear/see it come to life right in front of your eyes on a football field. Pretty cool, eh? I think the most important part of drum corps is the bond that is created between the individuals participating. I think all fans would agree that it is very visible when a group really clicks, and has that emotional connection within the organization that definitely is portrayed to the audience.
  12. people smoked. there are plenty of show sites/rehearsal sites that have stores around. people would go and just stock up. many would just smoke after the shows, but quite a few during the rehearsal day on breaks. there are probably less smokers now than 35 years ago for other reasons other than drum corps.
  13. Joey, this is FANTASTIC STUFF. I actually sent the link to my professor here @ Ithaca College and he'll be sending it out to my studio. Loved the Arutunian. I have a friend who arranged the Hindemith Sonata in a different way as well, and I must say, I love it when standards are taken to that next level, and you did just that. Congrats. I'll be buying the CD and encouraging everyone I know to do so as well. Hope all is well.
  14. have you ever tried fruit punch and iced tea together. do it! it's amazing. red and brown, the perfect match.
  15. I love this piece of music, but I don't think I'd want to see it performed outside. There's just something about Music for Prague and the concert hall that just works. It's eerie and I would not want it any other way. Karel is an amazing person. I'm lucky that I have a composer and man like him living in the city I go to school. I've rehearsed in his presence many times, and each time he inspires me in some new way.
  16. you'd be surprised what eating at a fast food place can do for the psyche. haha. biggest investment is something to wear on your feet in the shower. some of the places corps will be housing are disgusting.
  17. It's probably a good idea for them to keep some sort of pain reliever type thing handy in their bus box at all time. You never know when you're going to need it, especially if the air conditioning breaks and it gets real hot (headaches galore). I never really spent that much on tour. It was mostly spent on gatorade. Never brought an air mattress because a regular sleeping bag is so much easier and you probably end up getting to bed 10 minutes before other people. Never had to replace any toiletries either. You can always tell those people who use way too much shampoo/body wash. haha. I did have to buy a new water jug once or twice over the years from the lids cracking and what not. Never really bought souvies either. so really, if the kids are smart about it, they won't need too much money.
  18. 2006 prelims. I had the opening solo in the show. My valve had turned in the casing, and when I went to play, I couldn't because it was blocked. I tried a few times to figure out what it was and play, but to no avail. Eventually I figured it out and played the rest of the show, but man there is nothing worse than sounding like a squeaky toy on the opening solo of a show. the judges tape "um, there seems to be a problem with the soloist.....ummmm.....ummmm.......is this a horn malfunction?.....ummmm......ahhhh there were go"
  19. 1996 and 1998 Madison Scouts. 1999 will always be my favorite, but these two shows are my next two. I listened to 98 Madison's closer before every show from 2004-2007. It's my hype show.
  20. this is awesome news. Chris graduated the year before I got to Ithaca, but I've met him a few times and I've heard a lot about it from our teacher. Good guy, and from what I understand a great trumpet player. Good luck.
  21. The big one that comes to mind other than the one DCA weekend is the Plymouth show. I started going to that show a very long time ago when I first started marching with the CT Alumni. Although it may not be as power packed as it was back then, it is still an amazing time and the corps do an exceptional job.
  22. Dilboy Field in Somerville is now a piece of crap. We practiced there in 04 or 05 a few times, and it was not good. Pittsfield MA is also terrible. My least favorite however has to go to the stadium we performed at in Oklahoma City in 2004. It was a concrete bowl. I loved performing at the Manning Bowl, but this one was just not good. Also, the rehearsal facilities around the area were so sketchy....needles and broken bottles everywhere.
  23. I think this could be a great way to move things forward for ECJ, especially since whenever I talk to one of my friends, all we do is talk about drum corps and how much we miss it, etc... I'm sure there are plenty of alumni out there who would love to get an opportunity again. Once finances are taken care of, I think this would be the best idea for the corps, considering how strong the DCA circuit is becoming. It would just be weird for me, because I could never march anywhere in DCA other than the Hurricanes.
  24. both corps' seasons were fairly successful. This is almost like asking if the Boston Crusaders and any of the open class corps in the Northeast should merge. It happens a lot, that two or more corps are in the same area (California). I think both of these corps can draw the membership they need to be successful....they are the only two junior corps in Texas after all, a state booming in the performance arts area.
