  1. actually Fran, having spent a little time there...I'll say since Jimmy Gruber took over the corps has made zero incorrect decisions when it comes to keeping the corps afloat and paying the bills. Remember, mid 90's, this corps was on the ropes. He and his team have done a fabulous job making sure the corps doesnt lose tons of money in the quest for competitive success.
  2. Bill, If I recall...the 3/8 2/8 stuff had some holds in for the odd meter bars right...I dont remember seeing any stutter steps for the odd meter like you sometimes see a corps do.
  3. having an 8 man front ensemble limits in NO WAY how high their percussion score can be. The sheets have no requirements on what you must have...just on how you do with what you do have. that's the part you do not seem to be getting
  4. a grounded ensemble means you have no one that moves at all...the entire section does not do drill. a tradition percussion set up is a battery and front ensemble. as for the guard....i'm not expert, but it seemed they had a rough day, moreso than the week before. I;'d imagine based on the score, the judge, a lot more qualified to talk guard than I am, agreed
  5. you're right, but people do have a right to complain. after all, if the issues drive people away, DCI is ####ed financially
  6. it may be close, but my guess is clean wins. Again you dont get points just for trying didnt see either sadly. But a grounded ensemble has challenges that a moving line doesnt. just because an ensemble doesnt move mean it's easier...they have, IMO, even more listening demands...and more props if they move around to different instruments...going from marimba to vibes means they have to master two similar, yet different disciplines exactly
  7. thank you for remembering John and Mike. I know i talked with many members of the Dp family that day ( granted via RAMD) and checked up on others who lived there. may we never forget
  8. the story line just didnt flow in a way that made sense given that the whole guard was costumed the same. and musically it just didnt reach me. i loved corps that scored below them, so placement had nothing to do with my lack of enjoyment
  9. no one is saying we must make all corps look at this. but you raise some good points. at this stage, i say we celebrate what is going to happen and hope it can lead to more. one last thing...any corps allowing people to march that do not meet their financial obligations or have a plan in place to meet those obligations is going to end up the way the Westshoremen did. dead.
  10. it hasn't. weird but true...the guy was known for excessively showering
  11. then remember to give him a good night kiss since he bought
  12. i think, and it's a good thing, that activity has moved away from size is everything. granted big can still be awesome, but sometimes big can be downright bad too.
  13. the one on the left must be good at giving Priestly blessings
  14. size doesnt make it cleaner. in fact, size can actually work against you...the more you have, the harder it is to clean
  15. you do realize I've been around for a while right? and i was in a way sarcastic...i know what old school tenor lines played...and gladly watch them play at alumni corps whenever I can. I also know what 70s tenors played...my dad was one. but really dude...chill the #### out. Steve Gadd is a legend...and I have the utmost respect for old school drumming, now school drumming, and the school in between drumming. (note...just to help you pull your panties out of your ###...i was born in 1969. I attended drum corps shows within a month of birth. my dad played tenors in the Yankee Rebels and the Westshoremen...as well as rudimental bass. I grew up watching legends like Morella, Goodhart and Flowers teach my dad. Yeah I think I understand and appreciate old school drumming. I won't get excited waiting for your retraction/apology)
  16. he'd claim cruel and unusual punishment
  17. new rule this year. gotta get tougher on offenders
  18. tweet flag on the play illegal use of logic 10 yards, loss of beer
