  1. Like to see Wynton Marsalis Citi Movement on the field. Also so "Blue Note" works ... not sure who I would like to see put them on... Maybe a Corps that can produce something other than that college jazz ensemble sound.
  2. I believe that you will see "Summer Band" via BOA or another organization before you see complete band instrumentation in DCI, especially with electronics. What you may see in some context is non traditional brass instrumentation ...trombone, French horns, Wagnerian tubas, whatever available for use.
  3. If Corps performed significant portions of the book they performed the prior year (sans late 70s early 80s), what would you like to hear again from last year? Would some corps reap a benefit from doing it?
  4. I glad that a quality corps will be playing Stan Kenton and Don Ellis next year. Two composers whose Jazz Ensemble works are tailor made for Drum Corps! Excited and intrigued about the promise of different pieces, especially since corps in the past have made the decision perform the same works even though both composers have a gigantic musical book!
  5. Could someone define the various staff titles and explain the hierarchy. I love Drum Corps and worked with corps back in the day when your staff didn't consist of 30 people.
  6. Bo knows DCI - I like it. While I don't know if Nike/Reebok would interested in investing in the development of a marching shoe initially, they could if enough corps wore their current trainer type shoe and other corps and bands tollowed suit. Most specialty shoes were created because the current basketball , tennis, or running shoe didn't work.
  7. I'd love to see more mainstream incorporated into shows. The arrangers & designers are talented enough to present shows in the alternative, country, hip hop, R&B, Pop etc, idioms without "dumbing" the music down. Lyrically and Phrase wise, a lot of that music is just as challenging, ensembles just do a poor job of pulling it off. I'd also like to to see a corps do a Jazz show that incorporates the major jazz element of improvisation in the music and drill. Wouldn't it be something to follow a corps throughout the season and hear and see a somewhat different show every performance? Maybe a Jazz meets Zyklus type of thing.
  8. BD and Crossmen always include some Jazz in their shows. But I am looking for Corps to a jazz show and incorporate the most important element .... Improvisation into their shows. Technically, it's not really jazz without improvisation. I'm waiting to see which corps does it first.
  9. Float and Hardimon were affiliated with that line. Either they both played or taught
  10. This thing goes in cycles. We used to hook the straps farther out so our drums would be flatter. When the XL harnesses came out, every one marched flat. Then tilt feature first came out, and everybody was tilted. Eventually everyone went back to flat, know folks are re-experimenting with tilted. It don't matter just keep playing
  11. I still enjoy Cadets from 83 (Mass) and Suncoast from 84
  12. If the trophy was given for performance over the entire season, I probably go with SCV. Although the overall show needed an extra week to really get it tight, the drumline had together more so than the Cadets. It seemed to me that the Cadets were playing parts from other years. But the were really good finals night I have to wait for my DVDs to really hear.
  13. The flam is a combination grace note and stroke. So I don't think flam pops are appropriate. I've heardabout those extended flam rolls .... I just hurt thinking about it!
