  1. He is the diner worker in the painting. His backstory in our "dream" is he's just back from the war...
  2. Just a quick shout-out to everyone who contributed support and kind words towards BD this season in this thread (and on DCP in general). It was definitely a special year for BD (as well as SCV), and a GREAT year for drum corps in general. Until 2018...
  3. Dave Glyde and I wrote solo's to have the members audition on, then once the soloists were selected, the members were allowed to create within what was there. When you hear the show in the summer, the solos will be consistent night to night, because visuals and other music are written to match what is going on solo wise. In the end, they are written with some improvisation inherent in the end product.
  4. Dave Glyde is the music coordinator and main arranger for The Blue Devils. From there, Wayne Downey is the brass arranger, Scott Johnson the battery arranger, and Jim Wunderlich the front ensemble arranger. I am the brass caption head. See here for further clarification... BD Staff I am also the music coordinator and brass arranger for the B & C Corps groups, but NOT the A Corps. Hope this helps... Enjoy the summer!
  5. Yep! Adam had been in Clovis working the System Blue Trumpet Camp and also performed the National Anthem for the Stanford show. Amazing musician and person.
  6. We did get our shipment of ChopSaver, THANK YOU Dan. Personally, I have been using ChopSaver exclusively since I was first introduced to it a few years ago. This was the second year offering your product to our members. When I passed out the individual tubes this past summer, the members rushed in with anticipation to receive theirs and I overheard comments like "my chops always feel refreshed". In regards to the concerns about the SPF difference between DCT and ChopSaver, I have had no issues. I find that more chop problems during the summer are caused by the wind versus the sun (assuming some sort of sunscreen is being used on the chops). Thanks again Dan, I look forward to using your product for years to come.
  7. Dr. Chip Crotts will not be replacing anyone on the current Blue Devil brass staff, he is just joining the staff already in place.
  8. Send me an e-mail with your mailing address Scooter, and I will send you one. We're hoping to release them early 2010. I could not have been happier with how they played and sounded this season. John
  9. BD is... 24 Trumpets 16 Mellophones 24 Euphoniums 12 Tubas 76 Total Enjoy the season!
  10. elmhurstmusiced, As far as I can tell, you did nothing wrong, you simply asked if anyone had a lead on an original score. Some people were sarcastic in reply and some thought the sarcasm was sincere. Ah, the internet :). If only everyone knew that Kristi was the front field conductor for Phantom that year. ANYWAY! The best thing to do is check JW Pepper. If you search Shostakovich, then sift through all of the results, I'm pretty sure what you are looking for is there, I found it in the past. Also, the publisher and copyright holder of Shostakovich's works is G. Schirmer. For permission to arrange, here is the link. They are usually pretty good at granting rights to arrange his works. As a long shot, I know the rental department at G. Schirmer has a great library, so they might be able to help you out. I have rented scores through them before. In the end, GREAT music, enjoy studying..........
  11. • To answer the question about the Cavies show, the poster earlier saying to contact Mr. Saucedo through the Carmel website is right on, good advice. • As far as do you need permission for any amount, yes. 30 seconds, 3 minutes, you need permission. • To answer the Beatles question, visit the ASCAP ACE site, type in I Want To Hold Your Hand, click title and then search. It will bring up the composers, performers and publisher(s). The easiest way to begin your search for copyright/permission/publisher information is to either visit the above ASCAP site or this BMI site (click on rep at the bottom and go from there). I could go on for hours about copyright and permission (this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as information goes), but the best advice I could give anyone is GET PERMISSION. It's just simple respect for the composer and keeps your hands clean .
  12. A little late, but I was kind of busy in June . Tim is my brother. He marched BD 1988, 1989, 1994 as well as VK 1990, Crossmen 1991 and SCV 1992. I think thats all correct. As for me, yes, I was 16 in 1987 and I stopped marching and started teaching in 1990 (I would have aged out in 1992).

  14. A recently published article on DCP has all of the needed information for the 2008 Blue Devil brass auditions. Link
  15. This tuning system was developed and "invented" by Jack Meehan during his DCI Hall Of Fame career from the 60's to the 90's.
  16. Thanks So many to choose from (many already noted), but I'll go with Tim Meehan BD, VK, Crossmen, SCV & BD again 1989-1994.
