  1. Genesis...top 3 in Open Class in Indy?
  2. Genesis appears to move pretty well. I wish they played as well as they moved. Z
  3. I'm sure Bluestars are great, but it is hard to pick up any of the details of the show from the high cam. I will be interested to see them on multi cam or better yet...in person. Z
  4. I don't know. I have a sleeping 5 month old daughter on my lap. I appreciate all the suggestions. I will try them all when I can get up. DCP...much more helpful than Fan Network tech support!
  5. Any tips if you are watching from an iPad connected to a large screen tv? Z
  6. I just pulled up a video from Muncie and sound was great. I get audience noise but almost no sound from the field...unless Blue Saints and Racine were REALLY quiet. Z
  7. Is anyone else having serious sound issues. I get some crowd noise and that is about it.
  8. At this point, every corps has "something" amplified. Seems like it might make sense for you to step away from the activity. I on the other hand will greatly enjoy Cadets, Madison, and all other corps that have things miked. Z
  9. I guess this is why you can't crowd source the design process. First we get "Swan Lake! Same old Regiment. These shows are too similar and boring". Phantom reveals transition to black uniform and we get "Zoinks! These uniforms are CRAZY! Why would you put kids in those things". I don't have a strong opinion about the show or the uniform, but Phantom has to feel like they are in a lose/lose situation. I'm content to wait until tomorrow night and see how everything works together in context. Z
  10. Its not the yell I want to return, its the full corps toast that happened at the same time as the yell in 2004. One of the few times I have issue with a shot Tom Blair has chosen. The shot from backfield is great for seeing the crowd do the yell, but you pretty much miss the toast. Z
  11. The one that immediately jumps to mind for me is Magic's semifinals performance in Orlando in 1997. I love when the drum major turns to the crowd and puts on sunglasses. He then looks up at the torrential rain, shrugs his shoulders, and then turns back and starts conducting the corps again. It rained the afternoon of finals in 1995 in Buffalo. Things cleared up and cooled down for finals, but anytime an early corps went to the ground, when they stood back up they had very noticeable wet spots. I also remember Phantom performing in some pretty serious rain at DCI Midwest at Camp Randall in 1996. Z
  12. I once marched at a show in Canada where the staff failed to tell us there was a 55 yard line and two 50 yard lines. That was hard. Z
  13. 2 sneaky hard shows... For a horn book 1991 BD. The popular choice here is Star, but I'm always amazed by Bird and Bela in B flat. Visually, 2009 Vanguard blows me away. Until the ending, there are almost no sets on a horizontal plane. Every set is at an odd angle...had to be rough learning and cleaning those sets. Z
  14. No disrespect to my drummer friends, but I am definitely not a drummer. I marched a 2 valved, chrome plated, G bugle. I really do prefer bell front valved brass, but I'm not going to jump up and down screaming until I'm red in the face if I see/hear a trombone. Z
  15. How about Drum Corps International. I don't see what has changed that requires a name change. The NFL changes rules and equipment all the time, but it's still called the National Football League. When games began being played inside, was there a push to change the NFL to the NSIFL (National Sometimes Inside Football League)? I understand this topic is supposed to be funny and lighthearted, but at what point is it overkill. I am shocked at how much folks are upset by what type of brass instrument members carry in their hands. Z
  16. I fail to see how if you put any number of trombones in Crowns hornline (1-16) they will begin to sound like a "marching band". Maybe I'm missing something, but I am going to want to hear Carolina Crown this summer...regardless of instrumentation. Z
  17. I'm confused. I spent 10 years in the drumcorps activity. To me, drumcorps is about working your butt off (in extreme conditions) to achieve perfection. You can give my local high school all bell front brass instruments and take away the woodwinds, but that does not make them a drumcorps. Likewise, you can give the Santa Clara Vanguard trombones and that does not make them a marching band. If drumcorps start rehearsing 3 days a week for 3 hours at a time and only do shows on Saturdays I will be upset. Until then, I don't see how this changes the activity. I will wait until I see how this is implemented and then make a final decision on how I feel. For now though, all I can say is....meh. Z
  18. As a member of the 1996 Pioneer, it makes me smile to see us getting a few mentions here. That was a special group that performed at an extremely high level. The show probably ended up holding us back, but that corps was finalist level in the performance captions. Since you can only watch finalists shows on the fan network, I imagine most folks have forgotten or never seen/heard 1996 Pioneer. Z 1996 Pioneer baritone
  19. My first response would be 1991 Spirit. Listening to the cassette tapes, that show gets me every time. Probably not the "best" non finalist corps in the 90's but easily my favorite. And I agree about 1997 Colts. When someone says loud drumcorps, that is the first show that comes to mind. Since they didnt make finals, lots of folks have either forgotten about or simply have never seen the Colts Blood Sweat and Tears show. I would love to hear what Chuck has to say about getting that hornline to play so loud. Z
  20. Southwind 2000. Top 12 in every single caption...13th overall. Z
  21. Crown was greater last night. Who is better this year has yet to be determined. Z
