  1. Madison has been stereotyped far outside of drum corps. I accidentally tuned in one of the TV preachers 15 or so years ago and he opened his commentary with "I'm coming to you today from Madison, Wisconsin; ####-haven of the heartland." Clever alliteration, sick mind!
  2. Great! A former Miami Vanguard finally wins something and it has an astersek
  3. It's apparently cut and dried for the "yes" side. We both marched, although your (junior) corps had a heck of a lot more success at it than mine did. I just wanted to fine-tune the "no" side to distinguish between a George Bonfiglio and someone whose only "contribution" is posting on the internet. Regarding the "corps whore" comment, while I appreciate the support I wouldn't use that term to describe someone who has marched a couple of one-year stands in today's environment. Those of you who march today's schedule probably have had more competitive performances in 2 or 3 years than I had in my 10+ back in the day. But it IS Aaron's thread, so answer his question as he asked it (and you are still the reigning beauty of this place). :D
  4. Please post the Junior prelim scores. Just need to see the Miami Vanguards in 4th place one more time. B)
  5. Ironic. When I suggested expanded the question, I was thinking of Gail Royer, George Bonfiglio and others who made a much bigger contribution than most of us who "only" marched a couple/few years. But thanks for the typical aggressive reply.
  6. I think the question should be expanded. Many talented people have written and taught, Also, there have been legendary directors who didn't march. A fairer question might be "have you been an active participant in a drum corps?"
  7. Don't know about more Emmy's, but Frank Dorritie has a couple of Grammys.
  8. As someone who dearly wanted a corps to play Shostakovich 12th, and who showed my appreciation accordingly, I was disappointed with 2 aspects: the way the show quickly became Russian Christmas Music Part II and the lame storyline that was built around the music. I've heard several comments that the visual program was dictated by the coordinator, not the designer. If that is true, it would put Key Poulan in good company as a musical genius who totally botched coordination of the total show. I think it was a terrible way for Myron Rosander to end his stay at SCV; a great injustice to Rick Valenzuela's leadership; and a missed opportunity to re-image the old SCV colors. That being said, the members did an awesome job, and finals night in Boston will always remain a very special moment.
  9. One of my favorites. But you'd have to rename it: "Fugue for Bose Speakers & Defibrillator". b**bs
  10. Congratulations on the website and emphasis on free speech. On the down side, I hate being startled by a sound track that I didn't ask for.
  11. Even direct contributions aren't fully deductable if there are "thank you gifts" associated with them. SCV takes a very conservative approach to valuing their "thank you's" but at least they provide contributors with a statement of what the tax deductable value of their contribution is.
  12. Another 20 bucks to iTunes, but well worth it. Ravel goes great with Monday Night Football b**bs
  13. It must be Archer Epler. They're from Upper Darby (or is that Abu Dhabi?) To be perfectly candid, I wouldn't count on any ME states as friends (Israel notwithstanding). BTW, I was married to an Egyptian national. I guess we had different experiences. :sshh:
  14. It really was Holtz. He coached Notre Dame.
  15. Funny, my 1st reaction at seeing the program was "that's Larry Kerchner's program for Reilly alumni from a couple of years ago". Didn't realize he was actually doing (re-doing) the show.
  16. Remembering the late Eric Haney; (baritone on left). BK & Kilties marching member, BK color guard instructor. My friend.
  17. Tom, To paraphrase Joe Kennedy, Sr. the legion gave you a championship, not a freakin' dynasty. :P (but I'll always love the huge key change in "Devil at 4:00")
  18. Hawthorne would later drop out resulting in "dueling contests" during the '64 and '65 seasons. Only after losing the Legion nationals to the Rochester Crusaders did the Cabs rejoin DCA for 1966. That resulted in one of the most exciting Legion championships ever.
  19. And thus a presidential scandal was born....................
  20. You mean like: Folk Song Suite Malaga Farandole Afro Blue (percussion) Evergreen 1978 DCA Champion Sunrisers
  21. Does that mean someone will finally do "Springtime for Hitler"? Isn't Mel Brooks working on a Broadway version of "Blazing Saddles"? How about Hugh's Tom Lehrer show? I think he wanted to feature "Dead Puppies". b**bs
  22. So regardless of placement, 2007 will inherently be better than 2006? Kind of reminds me of an old Mort Sahl monologue. He observed that in the early 1800s we chose between Jefferson and Hamilton. In 1972 the choice was between McGovern and Nixon. His conclusion: Darwin was wrong :P
  23. Thanks for the detail. Two legendary names in the activity. A real irony after all this discussion of the 20s and 30s is that both corps had a resurgence in the early 70s. Dave "Big Daddy" Richards taught both and there were a few Miami guys who marched with '76 at DCA. I'm told that corps (forget the year) was severely shafted.
