  1. It's been what............all of 2 years since he had a 3rd place show?
  2. He's been writing the Bushwacker's show in DCA for a few years now and they're well positioned to win again in the next year or two.
  3. Gee, the weather has gone to the opposite extreme since you were bashing Myron last winter. Tis truly a magnificent obsession you have. And to think you were predicting that Madison would beat Vanguard in visual. Here's my prediction: Myron Rosander WILL retire before you actually put on a uniform and march a show.
  4. That's why I suggested making the sound system the main feature when you buy the car. Go to the Bose website and they have a listing of all the makes and models they have developed custom systems for. I don't even think you can buy their auto speakers by themselves.
  5. If you get the chance, I'd fit the car to the music. I bought my Nissan Maxima to get the Bose premium system. Great as it is, it's still a 2:1 system. There are several surround sound systems out now. The JBL 5:1 in the new Toyota Avalon is awesome. I've read great things about the coming Chrysler Sebring with a Harmon Kardon 5:1. You don't need the big bucks either. The latest Hyundai minivan and Santa Fe SUV have Infinity 5:1s. I'm trying to resist spending money I don't have for a new Infinity with Bose 5:1 and the rear channel speakers in the headrest
  6. It's Shostakovich, Dead Can Dance or nothing!
  7. Try heading south on the PA Turnpike toward Philadelphia. There should be plenty of rooms closer in to Philly.
  8. Done 3 or 4 years ago in DCA by the Hurricanes.
  9. Glad I scrolled on. "Leningrad" absolutely! Also from Shostakovich: "Execution of Stepen Razin" and "Hamlet". Let the 5th & 10th R.I.P. I'm also with you on Borodin (my cat really is named Prince Igor). In fact, the entire opera has much more to offer than just the "Dances". "Steppes" doesn't do much for me after the opening segment, but I recall Mandarians doing it justice a few years ago. And I still say there's a lot of Wagner waiting to be played. If and when they can the clown hats and gimmicks, "Flying Dutchman" is premised on the sailors waiting for a "South Wind". 'nuff said. And you could go deeper into the "Ring" than that great Phantom show.
  10. Don't know the full story, but they flew into D.C. If they're busing the rest of the tour, I'd assume they'd want to stay in the more concentrated areas of the East Coast and Midwest.
  11. I've never seen a show in a dome. Certainly the weather is THE issue. I have spent considerable time in domes for sporting events, and teams from hot and cold climates need them to survive. Can someone who's done both compare the acoustics of a domed football stadium to the open air minor leadue baseball fields frequently used in DCA?
  12. The other obvious answer is to do without narration. :P
  13. That was probably one of Stan's early appearances. b**bs
  14. Brings back fond memories of my favorite episode of the Mary Tyler-Moore show and the obituary for Chuckles the Clown.
  15. Only 40 years after the Sunrisers. Movie themes were a mainstay of the activity in the 60's, due to the budget-busting Charlton Heston genre. I liked the Cavaliers' "Ten Commandments" a lot and Des Plaines got a lot of mileage from "Hair" (probably better remembered for the play than the movie). "King of Kings" and "Ben Hur" were beaten to death. More recently, Southwind's "The Mummy" was their last show that I could tolerate.
  16. Faust vs. Vito Corleone. I love it. Too bad about the rabbit.
  17. Fuel prices, insurance rates, school schedules...................P.C. is the future of drum corps. And, for the true "purists" this is back to the future. I can't wait to see them this year.
  18. I think the show sponsors are risking lives putting people out with lightning anywhere in the vicinity. Fans dumb enough to encourage it are worse. Rain; no problem, no one's going to melt. I remember the Sunrisers at 1999 DCA finals. The corps on the field and the devoted fans/alumni in the stands were all who were standing in that monsoon. I was one of them (at least the corps had dry clothes to change into). Lightning, even without rain (re: Boston last year), is a killer. Ask golfers. We had a local incident at a fair just last week. The rides were stopped and people were told to seek cover before the rain started. A bolt hit one of the taller rides and travelled down the structure and along the ground. It hit 5 people standing under a canvas tent where they thought they were safe. Fortunately, none of the injuries were fatal. It's just not worth the risk.
  19. My late father started his involvement with the Penn Treaty Cadets in the early 30's. My grandfather was actively involved in supporting them. Dad then went on to the A.K Street Post corps, where he stayed until he was drafted for WW II. After the war, he joined with several of his Street Post comrades to form the Reilly Raiders. He stayed with Reilly until a health problem forced him to miss the 1952 season. I joined the Miami Vanguards in 1963 and my father became president of the corps' board of directors. I have a soon-to-be 10 year old who has a room full of flags, rifles, and drum sticks. We'll see..............
  20. One score makes them larger And one score makes them small And the scores the judges give them don't do anything at all,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  21. http://washington.nationals.mlb.com/NASApp...astime_vote.jsp The Washington Nationals are running a fan favorites contest. One of the options, according to the link above, would be to have "high school or college bands, drum and bugle corps................." perform before each Saturday game. Not to slant the vote toward any particular corps, but their mascot's name is Screech.
  22. You forgot Borodin and my cat, Prince Igor, is really ######. B)
  23. I downloaded the music a couple of days ago and from what I HEAR it's amazing. There are just enough of the traditional Madison cues to make them identifiable, but it is a different sound overall and one that I like a lot. Sort of Glassmen; the "boring" years. That is also an incredible percussion program. Lots of throwdown, but all very musical. I'm glad that they've gone up a notch visually. Apparently, the execution isn't up to Myron's design.............YET. Looking forward to seeing them live.
