  1. Don't know if you saw this posting: http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums//ind...showtopic=77886
  2. We hope to have some soon. Our resident Olan Mills is playing around with some new software and once he figures it out, we should have some new pics out. Also, we are playing at the local Drum Corps Tigers BBQ Bash on May 6th and we should have some pics from that, too. Drums Corps Tigers is the local group that raises scholarship money to help kids pursue their drum corps dreams. Jeff Fielder (Cavies Director) and Pat Seidling (Phantom's Director) are scheduled to be there.
  3. One more day until the Gulf Coast Sound camp. Hope to see you there!
  4. Loved the video diary! Good luck this season!
  5. Dust off those sticks and come on out. Chuck Norris wants you to join the GCS Drumline. Your next opportunity is this weekend, April 22 & 23.
  6. You might want to see if there is a school in your area whose band practices in the school parking lot. I have one in my area that I play to use. The area is already marked off.
  7. If the whole world would act like a drum crops family, the world would be a better place. Competition would be friendly and would never get to the point of turning violent. Everyone would come together in the spirit of friendship and comraderie--recognizing what they have in common, not their differences. People would work hard for the sake of betterment, not driven by the almighty dollar. They would understand when one wins, we all win. Yeah, that would be Utopia. Too bad it only exists on the marching field.
  8. Nice! Can't wait to see you guys in Rochester.
  9. Gulf Coast Sound Drum & Bugle Corps of Houston, Texas is still looking for drummers and pit people to fill out its 2006 percussion section. The corps needs one snare drummer, one bass drummer and two or more front ensemble members. The next camp is scheduled for April 22 & 23. Get all the details at http://www.gulfcoastsound.org. Don't make me send the Texas Ranger, Chuck Norris, to come and get you. He might have to give to a roundhouse kick and knock you onto the practice field.
  10. Gulf Coast Sound's standard parade tunes are Rio, Bull Fighter, and Magnificent 7 but Rio is #1.
  11. Gulf Coast Sound is hosting a show this year and plan to continue hosting it in the future. A number of new drum corps projects are in the works for Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma (I believe). The Austin Stars plan to take the field in 2007 and that will make 3 Texas all-age corps. I don't see why it couldn't be turned into a central regional DCA competition.
  12. Then do it! We'd love to have you guys come to our show. If the Renegades committed to the Houston show, I'm certain CorpsVets and maybe Alliance would commit, too. There would be at least 4 Class A corps (GCS, Austin Stars, Alliance, and Heatwave) and 3 Open Class corps (Renegades, CorpsVets, and Frontier). You should really give it serious consideration next year.
  13. Gulf Coast Sound has to travel 6,800 total miles for just three competitive events. The breakdown is as follows: DCA South-Rockmart, GA: 1,600 miles round trip DCA South Orlando Show: 1,924 miles round trip DCA World Championship: 3,286 miles round trip Total miles: 6,810 miles.
  14. You will need to reinforce the inside with some plywood at least 1/2 inches thick. Put the eyelet bolt through the shell and the plywood. Finally, put the washers on. Your final set up should be eyelet, metal washer, rubber washer, shell, plywood, rubber washer, metal washer, and bolt screw.
  15. Thanks Brent! See you at the preview. Can't wait until you guys hit the field next year. Then, we can really get this Texas Circuit going!
  16. Come on Houston area musicians! You know you want to hear the roar of the crowd again! Show up at the camp next weekend and let's get started! The drumline needs one snare and one bass drummer and the pit could use two or three additional people.
  17. Our caption head (Jon Large) might be interested in selling his but it has the black forest wrap. Drop him a line at drums016@hotmail.com.
  18. Coast Sound Drum & Bugle Corps will have its third drill camp on Saturday April 8, 2006 at Rittenhouse Baptist Church, 513 W. Rittenhouse Rd., Houston, Texas. Rehearsal times are 10 am-9 pm Saturday. We will continue to work on music for our 2006 show, "Shades of Green". The corps is still looking to fill spots in all sections, particularly soprano, baritone, guard, one snare and bass drummer, and front ensemble, but all are welcome. Membership is open to all age groups. Prior drum corps or band experience is recommended, but not necessary. The desire to work hard to become one of the premier drum corps in the United States is a must! Directions to camp and other corps information can be found on our website: www.gulfcoastsound.org Please take this opportunity to come find out more about GCS. Plans are being finalized for the Summer '06 competition season and for our first home show, "Brass on the Bayou", the first DCA drum corps competition ever in Texas, on July 29th. Spots for the 2006 season will be closing soon, so don't be left behind in what looks to be GCS's greatest year ever!
  19. In the 2005 edition of Gulf Coast Sound, the youngest member on the field was a 10-year old mallet player. The absolute youngest was a 6-year old honor guard member. Of course, the parents of these children were members of the corps. The corps policy is that those under 18 have to have one involved parent.
  20. Gulf Coast Sound has two camps per month. One weekend a month, we have a two-day camp.
  21. Gulf Coast Sound rehearsals are open to the public. We do, however, have members only meetings.
  22. Gulf Coast Sound Drum & Bugle Corps will have its second drill camp on Saturday March 25, 2006 at Rittenhouse Baptist Church, 513 W. Rittenhouse Rd., Houston, Texas.
