  1. I usually don't like to pass on second hand information, but there was a post on the Blue Stars forum saying that a Colts bus broke down about a mile from the stadium. Maybe that had something to do with it???
  2. The word on the Blue Stars forum was that they put in quite a few visual changes the last few days. I guess they paid off!!
  3. Not a problem! I've been playing those songs for over 23 years!
  4. Hey, the Army has arrived!!!! Can we still have that beer?
  5. Looks like the Blue Stars have some room to improve in the music caption. Visual and GE look good.
  6. Last time it happened was my last year with the Stars. Congrats!!
  7. Actually, I'd love to see that. It would sure shake things up a bit!
  8. According to the Blue Stars forum, the Cavies Alumni are performing now. Hopefully everyone was able to get their show scored.
  9. We'll see what happens when they're thrown into the mix with everyone else.
  10. If last year is any indication, they adjusted the order of appearance based on the scores the corps recieved after the first major regional championship. Anyone know if that is the case this year?
  11. You had to show that picture didn't you. Yup that's me in my "totally cool" maroon running suit. At least I had a beer in my hand!
  12. Thanks for the mention of Wausau Story! We tried hard but never got higher than '76 class A champs and 24th place open class. I learned a lot from that corps! Too bad we folded in '79....who knows what could have happened.
  13. These two pictures are definately 1979, because I can find myself in each of the formations. Plus the drumline that year had that distictive paint job and the scoops.
  14. I hope I'm not out of place here, but as a proud alumni of the Blue Stars, I thought this might be of interest. I found this on the Blue Stars website. It is a list of some of the music that will be included in this year's show. It can be here on the Blue Star's Website
  15. While there may be some long-standing rivalries, what it all comes down to is how well the season went in the eyes of the members of the individual corps. I know there may be those that feel that this is a "sport" and someone has to win at all costs, but the bottom line is the experiences that the members take with them at the end of the season. I remember the 1980 season as a member of the Blue Stars. This is the first time the corps did not make finals, placing 13th. While we were waiting to go into the stadium to watch finals that night, the corps that beat us for the 12th spot marched by to compete. To this day I am extremely proud of the way the Blue Stars reacted that night. We ALL cheered and applauded them and wished them best of luck. The way the corps reacted that night taught me so much. It is by far the best memory of my marching days!
  16. Sorry, I've been way from the board for a few days (military tattoo!). Chop Suey was an exercise where the entire horn line would get in a 4 step interval circle and mark time VERY slowly (the toe to the knee mark time, not the just move your feet kind) and start playing the lowest note possible on the horn starting pp and cres. to ff in 8 counts. Then you mark time 8 more and move up a half step. This repeats until the last person in the horn line has reached the max of their range. This was done to the comforting beat of the cowbell. If anyone dropped their foot height, the whole thing would start over. Not only did this build chop endurance, it built physical endurance and range, as well as instilling a group dynamic... no one wanted to be the one to cause us to start over!
  17. Back in the 70's when I was with the Blue Stars, the hornline had this thing we called "Chop Suey." We always did it after rehearsing all day. Definately a character building excersize
  18. Like it or not, for most people drum corps is something that happens at half-time DURING SPORTS. Until our little niche activity gains in popularity at least 100 fold, the public will never think of drum corps as a legitimate sport.
  19. This might explain a few things: Wiki lolcat Link
  20. I remember them! In 1976 they were our main competition during the second tour while I marched with Wausau Story. They were definately worthy "opponents."
  21. If you're considering a laptop for the road, look into a Panasonic Toughbook. They are pretty nice computers that can withstand A LOT of abuse. Here is a link to see the models available: Panasonic Toughbooks
