  1. Those changes may have been wanted by many corps directors and therefore have been used as soon as they passed, but how many times has the woodwinds rule been proposed and not passed? There is also a rule currently allowing corps to just amplified voice. This past year, if I remember correctly, a minority of corps competing used amplified voice in their shows. I'm not saying that no corps will use woodwinds if the rule passes, it just might be the minority like voice has been.
  2. If they decide to make a rule that allows woodwinds to march, it doesn't mean that every corps will use them. It's just like amplification. Not every corps has or wants to use it. It is just an opportunity that is there as a possibility, not a requirement to compete.
  3. If you are interested in the BD signals, you could watch some videos of them warming up in the lot. They may have some on Blue View or Google Video or some place like that. I have seen some where they show whoever is conducting. Hope that helps, at least the pick a note is on there.
  4. Does anyone have a picture of the 203? I'm just curious how different they look from each other.
  5. I don't know of any company that makes a mellophone in Bb. An F mellophone's fundamental is an octave higher than a F French Horn, the same octave as the High F side of a triple horn or a descant horn. Bb Marching French Horns fundamental is the same as that of the Bb side of a double horn, i believe. Therefore marching with a Bb Marching French Horn would be a nightmare because of all the partials you have to deal with on that instrument. The mellophone has the same set and relation of partials as a trumpet and is therefore much easier to be accurate on and easier to march with.
  6. I distinctly remember hearing BD's on field warmup in the background at one point in the movie too. I also could have sworn that the "rival band" looked a lot like BD when they stopped and put their horns down.
  7. I agree and I think that HGTV has come the closest to this with their coverage of the Rose Parade. It is shown without commercials and you get to see all of the floats and all of the bands that participate. The announcers talk a lot but it is mainly about the floats and when they do talk during bands you can still hear them playing in the background. It is probably the only parade I enjoy watching on TV.
  8. One thing that nobody has mentioned yet and I was wondering about: where was America/O Canada? That's a really cool part of finals, plus it was the only finale this year (I think). They should have at least had it playing during the credits or the end of the show or something.
  9. I would agree with using trumpet ensemble music. Many horn quartets have the 4th part written in bass clef, which needless to say is unplayable on mello. At least to where it sounds good with the other three parts.
  10. I've played on a descant horn that had a high F side. It does have a brighter timbre than the "normal" F horn that most singles and doubles have in them. It sounds more like a mellophone than a concert French horn, from what I remember.
  11. I'm not sure of the actual dimensions, but its pretty much a horn cup with a mello rim and a lot of extra metal on the outside.
  12. The Cavaliers are supposed to offer this mouthpiece soon on their website mouthpiece is that the one you saw?
  13. so how do you go about downloading and APD if you don't have season pass? I can't find a link or anything on DCI's site.
