Dinkles may look more like a "marching" shoe, but MTX is superior in every other quality. We wore Dinkles all four years in my high school band. My senior year, our staff (in their infinite wisdom) made us wear our marching shoes for 6 or 7 semi-dress rehearsals. Half of the band (including myself) had to re-order shoes mid-season. Luckily, the corps I march with uses MTXs. I can't imagine any other shoe enduring 30+ shows during the summer.

Not a particular comment, but very rude nonetheless: Everytime we went out east there would be certain field visual judge who would talk as loud as he could into his recorder (almost as loud as Will Ferrell's "Voice Imogilation (sp) Disorder" character) to the point that we could hear every little detail he was saying. We joked that the staff didn't have to go to critique since we already knew what he said. I know he judged at Allentown in 2003.

Blue Devils 2006 Repertoire
ShutUpAndPlayYerGuitar replied to vanguard87's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I'll agree building a theme around Katrina would be a terrible idea. But I don't see how a tribute to New Orleans itself would offend anyone. There have been plenty of tribute shows (Cadets 02 comes to mind) that have turned out great without offending anyone. Heck, there was even a BOA grand national finalist marching band that performed a commisioned piece that centered around the Oklahoma City bombing, and that didn't seem to offend anybody (well, except for me...I thought the show design sucked; but that's a different story). -
About a year ago, I saw the infamous list of composers/pieces that were barred from any arrangements. I know all of John Williams' and Charles Ives' works were included. Does anyone have the complete list?

Thank you. I'm getting tired of this double standard. If you're going to call yourself a division I corps, you're going to have to endure a lot of criticism, regardless of placement. That being said, however, I think Pioneer is far from a state of decline. Staff consistancy may not be their strongest suit, but their respective show designs since 2001 have improved drastically. Last season's program was well thought out and the members performed the #### out of it. Unfortunately, yearly improvement is something not limited to Pioneer. The quality of shows produced by the majority of non-finalist corps has risen considerably since 2002/2003. Pioneer may be improving, but not fast enough to get ahead or even catch up to the rest of the pack. Hopefully, things will be different this year....

I just want to say I've always enjoyed your solos from the past three years. Good luck to KK in 06. Whether they hail from up north or down south, I'm positive they'll crank out an awesome show this season. -
Returning Rate
ShutUpAndPlayYerGuitar replied to SWcymbals05's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
My corps is in the area of 50 percent, which is pretty constant every year. But wow, 75% and 80% are extremely high return rates. Things are definately going to shake up this year. -

I'm pretty stoked by the Cavie's show concept, but I'm fairly sure Madison will win it all this year since they announced their show first. :P

Uhhh, because there IS a Key Poulan marching band arrangement with a similar title and concept. I'm sorry if my post came across as "#########"-like. Lighten up dude. <**> -

That sounds similar to a stock Key Poulan arrangement for marching band. -
