  1. Yes we're coming again! Plans are made, we're touring 25 days in the US, from July 18 all the way to nationals in Indy. The exact show-locations will be announced after the DCI congress, I believe in January? The corps is in very good shape, again battling for the DCEurope title this year and next year is likely going to be even greater.
  2. Hello all! Beatrix' announced their 2008 program a few days ago, the program that they also will be playing in the DCI competition! It will be my first ever DCI experience and I'm really looking forward to it!
  3. My dad has a company where he sells printers and stuff like that. A few weeks ago he received a huge banner from a printercompany, I forgot which one, with some printers on it, and of them had a paper coming out with the Vic Firth basic rudiments on it!
  4. Second guy from right: Oh men, I guess I washed my lucky golden boxer a little too hot! That's a shame...
  5. I always dig the ###### drumline that Crossmen seem to have, especially '92, but I love them every year. I would take a few steps back if they were walking by!
  6. I think we're getting a 5-way tie for the 12th spot this year.
  7. Probably 13 inch, there is a good market for 13 inch snares in Europe, don't know why either, but a lot of corps (also drum corps and percussion ensembles) are using them.
  8. Those tenors are very very low! Looks very nice though, looks like some clean beats in the snareline!
  9. I like the style a lot. Especially the knee-pop or how you call it, gives a change of direction a lot more balls if you ask me, it looks so cool. Personally I like to have a comfortable way of marching and this technique looks very comfortable, which I think is good for musicality.
  10. I think the weight also plays part. A Pearl tenor has the best sound for me, but I had to go play trumpet because I couldn't carry that thing any longer. If you compare price, weight and soundquality, I think you have the best deal with Yamaha. Most of the corps get a great sound out of it and I don't they're very heavy, especially the tenors.
  11. I saw Rhythm X in Holland a few weeks ago and I don't want Drum Corps going that way. There were a lot talented drummers, a nice front ensemble and 2 men, one with a keyboard and one with a sort of DJ-booth. I thought most of the music came from these two men, with addition from the pit. All the talent on the field came forward every now and then to play a lick and then the music went on, again the 2 men were producing it. If Drum Corps turns into a place where some guys are spinning some records and play some keyboards, and the talented youth on the field just comes forward every now and then in the show to play a lick, I wouldn't do it anymore, and also wouldn't watch it anymore.
  12. Hi all, my name is Daniel Kruijt. I'm from Hilversum, the Netherlands. I'm 16 years young and doing drum corps for my 9th year in a row. I started when I was 8 learning the basics of drumming on a table with Jong Beatrix, which is the Beatrix' Cadet Corps. The year after being a student, I was asked for top bass, which I played in 2000 and 2001. 2001 was the year when a really was getting into drumcorps. I was 10/11. I looked up at the tenors all the time and that was what I want to play. Because bassdrum in that corps wasn't really about technique I went to the snares for some more rudimental knowledge. I did that in 2002. After that I finally came in the Jong Beatrix tenorline, where I marched for 3 years, 2003, 2004 and 2005. In my last year I was also the drumsergeant. In between I also marched one year of winterguard, which started out as a joke. We got 5 guys together from the corps to do one season of winterguard. And at the actual Regional where we joined (we did the last half of the season) we scored 10 points more than at a contest 2 weeks earlier, which was for that time a great jump in points. After my career at Jong Beatrix I moved on to Beatrix', where I also played the tenors. After a few months I was already asked to teach the Jong Beatrix tenorline, which I did with all the pleasure too, I also teached students on the same table as where I started 8 years ago, all in 2006. This season I again want to play tenors but my back and knees gave up, it is a very heavy instrument and playing it since the age of 12 when I still was in full growth, didn't do much good. So now I'm on trumpet with Beatrix' Drum and Bugle Corps, which I actually like better (SSHHH!). I quit teaching the Jong Beatrix tenorline because I didn't have the time. I now work a lot to save money for the Beatrix USA tour in 2008. I do still teach the students on the table every friday, and I hope maybe someday you'll see the perform in your country. Daniel
  13. Beatrix' 2007! You might want to check it out sometime somewhere (buy the DCE dvd at the end of the season) because it is a very interesting arrangement by J.D. Shaw!
  14. I like Freelancers, Bluecoats and Crossmen 1993 a lot.
  15. I had to do one year in school again because of drumcorps. They wanted to let me go on to the next class but then meant I had to stop drumcorps because I would need extra classes and I wouldn't have time to go to all the rehearsals anymore. (We're a weekend corps, so also during the schooldays we rehearse). So I just did that one year over and didn't mind that much, I met a lot good friends because of that, and I'm still marching!
  16. The best day for me is always the first show of the season. The entire winter I'm so excited about what we're doing and all I want is to throw it down for people who are anxious to see us. It's always the day when people see ou for the first time and will have their comments, positive or negative, but when you know you rocked and the crowd liked your show, it's just a wonderful feeling, the feeling you had to miss since finals, so that's why the first show is that good.
  17. If I get to march a monstertrio like Kilties ones had, I'm in! Also we need to play jazz and a 3.5 minute drumsolo!
  18. I like it when it's the hardest book ever, and still clean.
  19. As a former drummer (and still dig everything with sticks) I have to choose SCV 04!
  20. The amount of rehearsal time is very little compared to US Corps. My corps (Beatrix') rehearses every Saturday and Wednesday-evenings. I know also rehearses two, or sometimes three days a week. But outside the top 4 (Beatrix, Senators, Jubal and Northern Star) all the other corps have even shorter rehearsaltimes. The marching culture (as of marchintechnique) is the same, but not as good as in the US. We don't have the time to learn march in 16ths, with this amount of time we're happy if everyone uses straight legs. There are no age limits. In 2006 I believe our oldest member (tuba) was 45. Touring in the US is very expensive, but you can expect to see the European corps come every now and then.
  21. BUMP You really need to watch this, Europe rocks
  22. I know I know this is not the International Forum but again I want to share a link with you where you can find one song from every corps competing in the DCEurope Championships in 2006. It did very good last year so I thought, let's do it again this year. DCEurope Championship Clips
  23. I think the visual aspect is to make the music sound like it should and making it more interesting to listen to the music. So the music is the most important, but the visual makes the music more enjoyable!
