  1. Hey Fred, I remember it as a great season because of the product we produced on the field and the competition presented by the 10th to 15th place corps but I would say that once we started beating finalist corps and showing the possibility of making finals the season changed for the members. Fred if you recall as a staff member, suddenly we lost free days, laundry days and even practiced between performances and retreats and then again after retreats in the parking lot before leaving for the next show. We were tired and stressed and had no down time and when we ended in 13th by 2 tenths we were heartbroken. It is 20 years later and I remember that season like yesterday. Al used to always say to us to look in the mirror first and make sure we did everything we could do. We did and fell short and fell hard. I don't regret marching and aging out in 13th because I am hugely proud of the season, friends, product and competition.
  2. Dutch Boy 1983 to 1988 Kiwanis Kavaliers 1982
  3. Ohhhhh. I get it now! lol. thanks for the explanation.
  4. We were always intructed to leave the housing site in better condition than when you arrived. We had cleaning crews to address every specific area to ensure that we did not disrespect any school we stayed at. Horn line would have the fields and outside perimeter. Drum line would check the gym and hallways. Guard was in charge of showers and bathrooms. (or something like that) That being said I am sure that we at some point would have inadvertantly left something damaged. Completely unintentional if it did occur. Getting to the point of the burnt field and the unnamed drum corps.. don't get me wrong but doesn't grass grow and get mowed? That being said why would this be such a big deal. Wouldn't the damaged grass be gone in a few weeks at best? I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything (honestly). I agree it is disrespectful but just not the end of the world. thanks edited for grammar and spelling..I'm sure there are still errors!
  5. We only marched 42 horns that year I believe so DCI set the mics to a more sensitive level to accomodate the smaller horn line. Only problem is that we were small in numbers but loud in volume. That sound you hear is our horn line blowing the mics and getting feedback.
  6. I see the screen but it keeps buffering and not showing any corps.
  7. ok so I am signed and don't see where I click to see the live broadcast. Can someone help me please?
  8. Actually, Begin the Beguine was 1989 (Cole Porter) The show was entitled Red, Hot and Cole- You are correct that 1990 was Frank and Sammy just not the right song, and yep 1991 was City of Angels. (edit for spelling)
  9. Wow can't imagine how DCI got Pacific Crest's score up so darn fast?!???!?!
  10. come on.... Please!!! Post Dutch Boy's score!
  11. Absolutely, he and I sat across the aisle from each other that summer and shared drinks etc as is usually the case when marching and I never got mono. The guard felt sorry for him because he wasn't even allowed to rehearse to save his strength so someone in the guard went and bought him a kids toy plastic recorder/ flute type thing and a little plastic guitar and he would play the show for us (guard) to practice to during sectionals. It was so cute. He'd sit just a little ways away from us and play his heart out. I spoke to him in the winter about it and he still has the toys.
  12. 1986 - Ohio... 36 People , a bus, a trip to the hospital and 36 different diagnoses.(sp?) We had one poor guy end up with mono and had to be segregated from the rest of the corps. He still marched all the shows though. What a trooper. Next year became Drum Major. He certainly earned it. I had gastronitis... not fun. There were also people with pleuricy, bronchitis, pneumonia and all of us were severely dehydrated. We ended up with salt in everything we drank for the next month! Yuckkkkk. Half the corps was on a liquid diet until our systems settled. Quite unpleasant. The funny thing was that our corps director thought we were all wimping out until he sent us to the hospital.
  13. Michael was with Dutch Boy in 1988. He toured with us pretty much exclusively in 1988 and I believe he did work with us behind the scenes beginning in 1987.
  14. Me too. I'm assuming your parents are nicer than mine as your birthday must be in the latter half of 1967 because it appears from your signature that you got to age out in 1989 . I myself have the worst drum corps birthday ever.... May 31st!!! My son on the other hand is June 1st. Lucky boy, if he chooses to march.
  15. scores are in BK - 74.60 Glassmen - 72.20 Colts - 70-750 Crossman - 69.050 Blue Stars - 68.050 Dutch Boy - 50.050
