  1. I didn't see it because I don't watch sports, but I have to agree. I HATE when people singing the national anthem do that thing where they carry out every syllable as long as they can all while trying to cram as many different pitches into each of syllable as possible. I don't know who started it, but it sounds terrible every time. Just give me clear precise pitches any time.
  2. Mr. Hopkins or Mr. Fiedler don't post on here that often. We may have to settle for our very own inside man, Michael Boo :) Care to give us the official scoop on DCI rule submissions Mike?
  3. There ya go While I agree adding WWs would suck, you really should stop projecting your views on the world. :)
  4. Unfortunately there is absolutely zero way of even trying to quantify "connection with the audience". It also disregards and multiple genres of shows. Using your "crowd response" system, shows like SCV 99, or Cavies 02 would be at a disadvantage because they are not designed to evoke happiness and smiles. Your system would only reward "Cadets 02" types shows. Also, there are always different amounts of people in the stands for certain corps. Even if Troopers had a show that was 100 times better than Cadets, you would never achieve the same crowd response because half of the audience is in the lot watching warmups when Troop goes on.
  5. And 4 pages of responses from people who don't think it's useless. If you don't like it, don't read the thread or post in it. You have self control. We've had enough "favorite" threads on DCP to last 1,000 years. Why can't we explore the other side of our tastes?
  6. What's wrong with negativity? It's honest discussion. It's not like anyone is actually being insulting, just telling their honest opinions. If people get offended by negativity, they need to grow up. DCP could use more honest discussions.
  7. To be entirely honest, I have already started drifting away from drum corps since 2004. I have liked less shows each year since 03, and only went to 1 show in the 06 season as opposed to the 5 I went to in 04. I don't even post on DCP drum corps forums really anymore. And now that I'm in the military, I don't have time to go see something that is losing my interest pretty fast. If the electronics rule does pass, it won't be too much of a leap for me to just stop paying attention to drum corps entirely. I know every season when rule proposals come out, people say "if ___ passes, I'm not gonna watch drum corps anymore", and then they do anyways. But I'm serious. The amps, singing, and lame shows have been grating on me for the past 3 years, and if it gets any worse, it just won't be entertaining enough for me to care. If the above offended anyone....I don't care. Being offended is for chumps. :)
  8. You're right. I can't say I like SCV 04. And Cadets 2000 and BD 03 are also shows I don't like. BD 99?
  9. I'm inclined to agree. Everyone would win. We would have drum corps, and Mr. Hopkins and the fans of the activity he is envisioning would have his group. Maybe even let the Cadets remain a drum corps and start a new group with YEA to put into reality the ideas he has.
  10. 2007 Rule Proposals Here they are: # Extension of warm-up time # Raise membership limit to 150 # Prop persons not included in membership limit # Inclusion of electronic instruments # Position of visual performance judge # Ordinals decide placement at contests # Overall effect judges # Percussion adjudication # Score sheets 1 # Score sheets 2 # Full set of rules proposals
  11. Drum corps was outlawed. Didn't you get the memo?
  12. hahahaha remember that huge storm that delayed the show for hours? I remember we just finished our quickest truck loading of the season and got on the buses just as it started. I felt real bad for all the corps still out there.
  13. What happened to shows in Orlando? DCI realized Florida sucks for drum corps.
  14. Phantoms yellow sparkle drums from a few years back. Those looked like a high school kid's 30 year old drumset.
  15. I honestly don't care what music the corps I was with was playing, since by the end of the season, I had heard it enough to last a lifetime. And like Jake said, it wasn't stipulated in the original question that you would have a terrible summer and make no friends if you marched the corps that was going to win. I think most everyone who marches corps, from 1st place to 21st place has a good time in the summer. They bond with their section, work hard with them, and experience a lot of funny stuff. So I don't think that if one picked the corps that was going to win, they would have any worse time with that corps. They would make friends just the same. But on top of that, they would have huge crowds watching them warm up, band kids loving every note they played, more footage on the ESPN broadcast, full features on the DVD, and people talking about them and their show for years to come. Call it ring chasing if you want, but all of that, I think, is worth something.
  16. Well seeing as I'm aged out, It doesn't really apply to me. But if I had a few years left, then yeah, I would prolly go for the corps I knew was going to win. Fans place a lot of hype on the winning corps. People still talk about winning shows, even if they are 20 years old. How much do we talk about BD 96 vs SCV 96? Everyone remembers the winners.
  17. It's unlikely you would be able to sell anything cool, if anything at all. There are a lot of differing state and local laws about the sale of pyrotechnic devices, some even require licensing and inspections. Some states don't allows the sale of any kind of firework, while others have different laws for each class of fireworks. For a school or corps to get into that as a fundraiser would be a lot of hassle.
  18. Nice in theory, but not practical. If they really did that, you would hear "it's sound like you began your show in the middle of a song" on judges tapes. Judges start judging when the corps starts performing. I think they should model it after what WGI does. Have a maximum amount of time a corps is allowed to be on the field at all, including set up and tear down. Then if a corps wants to start playing before the "show begins", they can't drag it out as long as they want. Also, allow the judges to start right when the first note is played.
  19. +1 on the sponsorships. There are an awful lot of drum corps vets out there, especially on this forum. 20$ here and there can add up. Make it happen.
