  1. We watched them track the opener at a rehearsal one day. Apparently they were really trying to step it up a notch cause they beat those kids into the ground that day, but the kids hyped it and they proved it in the show that night. Absolutely stellar. The best part about SCV, is that they innovate every year. I never get sick of seeing their shows! And they do not have to rely on "modern technology" to do so either. And kudos to the glutonous drum solo. Every time I hear that thing, all I want to do is eat some steak and scratch my hairy chest and be manly.
  2. I loved 98. Great year to be alive. And who can forget the 4000 man snare line and subsequent tenor line.....awesome.. I thought the closer was from a Nintendo game or something, so whenever I heard it I was always wondering how many lives i had left before i beat the bad guy.........
  3. When i first watched it, I thought "Who the #&%$ would want to spend their summer holding a door?" But then then it all kind of clicked, and yes, it became one of the most played CD's on my stereo for a couple years. I would be ok if the Cadets did that show again. I would have no problem with that. The high brass attacks in the very begining are so sweet.... That ballad is one gigantic 2 minute chubby.
  4. I was actually going to mention this as well. I cant remember if it was Hornell or where it was in New York, but either a booster club or the Rotary club fed us 1/4th of a chicken each with a huge potatoe bar, variety of salads, and all of the cake we wanted. I am so hungry right now. I wasn't in coats(though i am a huge fan--git er dun), but the corps I was in was not full that year so some of us ended up eating a whole chicken if not more. I think the show sponsors set that up for all the corps performing that night. THat would be such a great thing to be able to do at more shows around the country. For some reason I remember performing on a baseball field that night. Not the beautiful turf in Hornell. Pitchers mound and all. God Bless America.
  5. I caved into the friends of dci idea, and it sits alright with me because i know that DCI is a good organization and i don't mind knowing that my money is being used for a good purpouse. I know I am going to finals and I also know that if i dont have the best seats in the house after traveling thousands of miles to get there, I will be not so proud of myself. And the last thing I want to do is end up buying from a scalper. I hate scalpers......
  6. AWESOME! BTW if none of you have gotten or heard the new album, I would highly reccomend it. It is pretty good. And relating it to the marching arts, I think that the U of Arizona marching band did a Smashing Pumpkins show in 1998? I may be wrong, but I would have loved to hear it! I think I am going to try to carve a bus into the pumpkin....this should be interesting. ok so it may end up being just the wheel....and by that i mean that i may just carve out a circle.....and i am not really good at drawing a perfect circle (also another good band).......ya i think that smashing pumpkins sounds better and better. thanks for the idea.
  7. Gotcha--i guess the required word is a little strong. I think it is a great idea to do that as well--can anyone explain what the motivation behind this program is?
  8. I am not really adding much to this, but I was curious--I heard that Pioneer requires its members to attend a church meeting on sunday morning every week while they are not on tour. No matter the denomination, they were instructed to go to church somewhere. I persoanlly think that it is kinda cool. Is this true? Anyone help me out with this? In more regards to this topic, i think it would be neat to see what a corps under a church sponsorship would be like these days......
  9. 侍か?2004年に日本に行った時にそれを決めたのかな? 楽しみだよね。。。。。 芸者はいないはずでしょう。
  10. If my memory serves me right, they used that drum rack in 98 as well....if nto even more. I just remember seeing a few things every time I would see Les Etoiles in 97, 98, and maybe 99? (i cant remember if they were around then or not) Hot twins in the color guard that spoke french, even though they shaved their heads for the "GI Jane" show in 98. I think a picture of one of them is in the 1998 DCI Program. Yellow and Green School Busses Rotating Drum Rack. It almost was like the Trooper Sunburst, or the SCV bottledance....almost......
  11. I have always paid..... but there was a moment that i wanted someone to get into a show who clearly didnt have enough money to pay. After we finished a show and lined horns up for retreat, I was designated as horn guard that night. I noticed a mother with 3 kids standing near the fence enjoying every bit of drum corps they could see...The kids asked why they couldnt go in, and she replied that she didnt have tickets----Though there were plenty of empty seats in the stadium that night. I regret that i was young and naive and didnt go get my wallet from the bus to buy all of them some cheap tickets to get in. One of the only regrets i have from drum corps. I would rather buy a ticket for someone who will sit and enjoy a show, rather than sell a ticket to a scalper for a profit. I hate scalpers.....that is totally off topic though.
  12. THough we have seen it done before, when the SCV colorguard dude catches the saber while the girl is wrapped around him. Ya I cringed. Oh and I kept cringing during the Cadets show for some reason. I felt like i was that guy in the Beautiful mind, seeing something so brilliant that i knew was real, yet hearing all of these voices that just didnt seem to fit into the picture.....
  13. Who really are the customers of this activity that we all love? Who are the primary supporters of the activity? A few events have made me consider this question. After events on thursday night in Pasadena, there was an outcry of "I thought this was about the kids!!" When the Troopers were in financial trouble a couple of years ago (and Capital Regiment this last year), many on here said something to the effect of "A corps must run its organization as if it is a business, and its most valued customer is each and every kid that comes through the door" Then there are fans of course. They are the people who pay for the tickets (which help pay for the performance fees) and merchandise. They are also the ones who make efforts to donate to the corps as well. They are the ones who cheer, cry, and even the ones who may boo when something doesnt go their way. Who is the target market? May I be correct in assuming that the individual corps responsibility is for the kids, and that the DCI organization (including the BoD) is responsible to appeal to fans and sponsors? Tell me what you think.
  14. I also marched in two corps. One worked harder. The other worked Smarter. The latter was the more succesful corps in terms of ranking. Wouldn't trade experiences from both for anything, and i would never consider one inferior to the other. Both very invaluable. BUT, i really think the Cadets have one of the most impressive rehearsal techniques i have ever seen....though i have heard of kids being on suicide watch while in the corps.....just a rumor....
  15. I want to hear the 2007 show LIVE without the narration. Thats all. .....and i wouldnt be heartbroken if the played 1997, 98, or 99's show again.
  16. CRAP. I laughed at this and now i feel bad. Maybe a corps like Phantom should do a tribute to him this year and hype on the emotion of a sad event like other corps in the past..................Phantom at the Opera......
  17. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm cookie............ And to answer the battle question---ANY Cadets Corps is tough as nails. They are so tough, that they can shrug off a few boos and throw down a killer show. But i will take it a step further and argue that they train harder than any corps out there.....but i still hated the narration. But long story short, that cookie looks really good. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
  18. How about we mesh the two together....."When I was in high school, I sold my soul to the devil" "I believe in Faust."
  19. I remember just learning from measure 9 on in my first couple years cause we never really won any shows...... then my last year, we came in 2nd place at our first show and we all looked at each other and thought %$&%. we better learn those first nine measures"..... those were the days. ....long, almost lost, but never forgotten. 1997 finals had fireworks to go along with America O canada at the end....chubberific.
  20. I would have The Cadets 2007 show beating any corps in the last 5 years. Bold? yes. I think they should have won it. I LOATHED the Narration. But they should have won it this year. Though it was pretty fun to see Phantom kick some trash last year....and this year. I even have Phantom this year over Phantom last year. regardless of placement.
  21. A wonderful example of audience participation! I didn`t hear it as much on finals night, but the funniest thing I heard was on quarters night.... At the begining when the four voices come together to say something....i forgot the exact words they say " we believe in Practice, Hard work, community--(then someone from the audience yells) HASHMARKS!" i will be honest, it was kinda funny.... The next was when the Napolean voice came on at quarters. "When i was in high school I didn`t fit in--(someone from the audiece yells) TELL IT TO OPRAH!!" I again found myself chuckling. It is just like the door from the previous two years. Did someone actually expect the crowd to be silent while Dani went to open the door? Lets just say that the door was wide open for participation from the crowd this year......And I am almost certain that that door was propped wide open by the show coordinator of the Cadets. Who was that again? EUREKA!
  22. I was not one of the fans booing, mainly because I had no clue what was going on. I did hear a lot of people heckling George Hopkins from where I was, and that was amidst a bunch of DCI alum who really got into it. I felt bad that the kids got booed. They were the best drum corps this season by far. Though I do not feel that anyone should feel obligated to apologize to George for giving him the attention that he commands to himself. The squeaky wheel is getting the grease..... and on a different but somehow related note: I was hoping someone could enlighten me on something: I have heard that the reason why the Cadets do not participate in I&E is (besides to get in a full rehearsal day) because they don`t believe in the individual showman? Or something like that....as in no individual is to stand out among the others. We perform as a whole kind of mentality. Is this true?
  23. 2 days after finals, i moved to Japan for work. I haven't been able to log on or anything but there are some random things i wanted to say and so here i go. Join in if you want to. I loved the Crossmen this year. They were #####in. What a cool show!!!! Played with such gigantic balls. Madison. the hell with narration---same goes for you JSU. Singing on the field is still cool--w/out a mic. [/u]Rose bowl (edited: inapropriate context, gomen ne - EE). That place sucked. I was convinced that the Cadets won on saturday night--though i was praying that they wouldn't. I feel that the Blue Devils somehow got the benefit of the doubt. Rose bowl sucked. (edited: inapropriate context, gomen ne - EE) Scalpers at any drum corps show #### me off. Sorry to make anyone mad by my rantings. Feel free to just dump out what you have been wanting to say for this year. mata ne
  24. I still have one of these tickets left. Please let me know if you would still like to come to finals. Make me a deal I can't refuse and it is yours!!!!!!
