  1. At first, I would have to agree that the Blue Devils are pretty intimidating LOOKING...but when you are next to them during retreat, they are all a bunch of jokers....along with the Cavaliers. Funny funny guys. I am going to go with SCV as the all around most intimidating look. Because they carry it on and off the field. Very cool Madison gets a close second.
  2. I would really like to hear someone play that arrangement of Spinning wheel that is on the Maynard Ferguson album from way back when..... not just because it would throw some killer trumpet moments in there.....but that it is a killer track all around.
  3. Because I have a feeling that whoever wins it all this year, is going to have the word "BLUE" attached to their name..........just my premonition though..................
  4. Maybe it is the fact that I marched Troopers and want them to succeed so badly that I always think of this .... Troopers in the top 5? The crowd would go absolutely APE S#@$!!!!!!!! But I think any corps who is foreign to the top 5 is going to get an incredible ovation should they crack in there....... bloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
  5. There was a short Japanese girl onm SCV's tenor line in 1999...or was it 2000? or was it both.... she was one of I think 5, so when the drill called for a rotation of the line, that chick was cookin around the corner. From what I could tell, she was a killer drumer too. I may be incorrect on the years....and even her nationality, but I have no problem being corrected.
  6. TAKE YOUR PARENTS TO A CAMP!!!! It will work. I promise. ok maybe not 100% promise, but after my dad went to a camp, he was all for it. Then the parents of other friends were able to call my dad and he could vouch for us all, saying that he felt good about what we were going to do. And paying for it on your own helps too. Good luck to all yall trying to march. Greatest experience to prepare me for the rest of my life.
  7. DIDnt even bother to read everything that is on here but here is my thought: DRUM CORPS ON ICE Blast what? Brass Theatre who? drum Corps is taking to a new extreme as Ice Corps takes the ice in performance. Talk about needing to know your drill sets..... i would pay to watch it. And for some reason i feel that the Cadets would be the first ones to do it.....that drumline could probably play anything anywhere though....
  8. I am not woried about the Pioneer organization. I have always respected them for their dedication to the safety and well being of yourng people. Ransom thought but if I remember correctly, I think that Roman actually encourages or requires that his members attend some form of worship on sunday mornings, and to resume rehearsal in the afternoon. Can anyone confirm that for me? I thought that was pretty interesting.......
  9. It there are drum, horn, or guard 'battles' of any sort, it should be done after the show. I remember after a show in 1999--that year we were beating Phantom the all of first tour-- they came within a point of us.... their hornline arched it up in front of our busses as we were changing after retreat, and threw down the most INCREDIBLE amazing grace i have ever heard....at the time, i was mad that they did it, and we did end up aving a pretty competetive summer...... while we took it as insulting, wouldnt it have been great if we had something loud and in your face ready to go? but anyway--- do your drumming, playing, dancing, shaking or whatever battles, but do it after the show..... Maybe another reason to bring back retreats....gives more time for that kind of stuff, and for the building of comradory.
  10. . What was it for? They rushed the stands. They had a big pinwheel at the end of their show that when it was spun by the drum major gave a few options of either finishing the show, or taking the penalty. it landed on finish the show, the DM moved the dial to "take the penalty" and then the corps tore off the field, rushed right to the edge of the stands and blew their kahonis off. I was only able to see it on DVD, but it was sweeeet. I think it was a good way for Div II and III to say, "thanks for putting us in a dinky stadium that has a track seperating us and the crowd A#$WIPE"....or maybe it was anti-war propganda. I really don't know. But I admire Jersey surf for doing it. OH BABY!
  11. There may be more of yall out there who can credit this legend a little better than I can, but I guess the reason that the Troopers didn't make it into finals in 1995 was because they got a penalty---for beating the #### out of someone who broke their ranks at a previous show in Stillwater, MN. I have never gotten to the bottom of what actually happened, even as a member of the Trooper organization... any insights?
  12. Santa Clara Vanguard--name a year, i wish i could have been part of it. And the 1986 Troopers should would have been pretty sweeeeet too.
  13. There was a hole in 2000 BK's horniline for the same reason that there SHOULD HAVE BEEN a hole in Blue Devils bass line in 2000..... but thats just what I hear. I wasn't there.
  14. Speaking of UN-natural and AVOIDABLE disasters.......... Yowza Yowza Yowza, better not forget to write back home to our dear old mother.
  15. I am here at work, and since I am alone I can play the drum corps as loud as I care to. Listened to X-men 2005. I knew there was a reason that I flew across the country to see them at semi's (I missed their show in Denver) Thank you to the 2005 Crossmen, staff, and support team. You performed with an INCREDIBLE amount of character and it translates well through the CD. I loved that show so much. I am pumped to see the DVD's. I look forward to 2006 and another great season out of all of you
  16. I'm biased as the last uyear I marched Drum Corps was the last year that anyone wore the dots. I really think that a lof of people are missing them. Whne I have a few $1,000 just kicking around, ill send them a check, and have them bring back the dots......cause i think that is what it is going to take to get them back. Am i the only one that kinda misses the design of the Colts old Uni's? I thought they were great...but that was just me....
  17. 1 cool thing about this schedule: Drum corps is spreading to all sorts of places. 2 sad things about it: Its hard to convince friends to drive 8 hours with you to watch a drum corps show to convert them to the activity. This will be the 3rd year in a row that UTAH goes without a show. We used to have 2 back in the day (and there was one year when there was 3). Ya'll must hate Mormons or somethin.. <**> Other sad thing: The Troopers aren't on the schedule. Here is lookin to 07. OH BABY!
  18. I am all about the RUSH conversation that is going on here. I heard some recordings a few years back with the Universit of Arizona marching band playing arrangements of the SMASHING PUMPKINS. Not are they only one of my favorite bands, but they actually provide a HUGE variation of styles and sounds. The UoA recordings were pretty sweet too..... b**bs
  19. Ya...I thought it was just my weak little CD player when I couldnt hear all the voices in the Cadets and Cavies shows.....Either the amps are turned up way too high, or the recording just isnt that great. Cadets Ballad (one of my favorites when I saw it live) doesn't really sound that great on CD, kinda choppy and you cant hear the big phat low brass swells....... are my expectations too high? who knows......
  20. Two of my favorite drum corps moments of the 90's: The ending of the opener for BD 95 The ending of the opener for SCV 97. Dissonance, no resolution. I am no music major, or musical genius, but I remember the emotions that I had at the end of those pieces (especially SCV97) and I just wanted to scream at them, not just because it was so WONDERFUL! But because it lit a fire inside me. I dig the whole dissonant and discordant thing. "TOMMY WANT WINGY" wingy meaning dissonance and phat stuff.
  21. You are right, that was a very good hornline. Thoroughly enjoyable. Especially that 'acapella' fanfare thing at the end. FREAKIN SWEEET
  22. Here is what we have to lose: Money. Add some more kids and sure you will get more member dues along with that but you have to think about adding another bus, feeding 50 more kids, getting staff to teach those new kids.....providing instruments and what if bobbies reed breaks? I just see a huge expense making corps tto much bigger.
  23. I think that the "Original" thing that Drum Corps has "Creatively" done is make me a better person. And I am certain that I am not the only one. .....many many influences from Drum Corps. Its also the first musical event that I had ever attended and wanted to scream like an eighth grade girl ever time there was a loud part......thats creativity......
