  1. Kudos to you and your rebellion. I'll tell you why i personally don't like the idea of woodwinds in drum corps. They look weak. They look like the band nerd kid that i used to be when i played saxophone my freshman year. I wouldn't want a beautiful powerful brass hornline to come out and be followed by a line of picilos and bass clarinets. Take for example...the 2004 Sana Clara Vanguard that you were a part of--FANTASTIC SHOW. One of the most enjoyable aspects of their show is the appearence of the hornline and the myriad of visuals and horn snaps and what not. Try that totin around a bari sax........ neck straps, reeds, and cork grease.......... I shudder to think of it I think that it would make drum corps just look so stinkin weak....just by appearance alone...... nothing against woodwind players in some very WONDERFUL marching band programs. They belong there, and i respect so many fine players and musicians who participate in those programs. If they want to do Drum Corps, pick up a euphonium and do some pushups, cause you cant hang your horn around your neck anymore!!!
  2. I dont mind the amps so much anymore. I thought I was going to die with Boston and Crown in 04 but those shows have actually grown on me...i really enjoy them, even the vocals. Woodwinds are great for band. Leave them there please. If you want to see saxophones, there are plenty to see. I feel that the majority of us want to keep it all brass. It is yet another UNIQUE thing about drum corps. I agree that innovation is necasary, but there is no need to bring in woodwinds. I dont know. Would you ever imagine the Canadian Brass, London Brass, Dallas Brass, or whoever brass with a permanent position for sax and piccilo? (now someone will try to show me that they have) Innovate drum corps. But keep it unique and for crying out loud, EXCLUDE some people. Theres only 135 spots anyway!!
  3. What if DCI made something on the SEASON PASS that is similar to i tunes, where you can take the individual songs.............well i wouldn't want to do that either, i would want the whole show.......... but ya, where you could download similar pieces or similar composers.....that would be cool. They could even have some prearranged playlists for you to download. Charge $15-$25 for every 6-8shows or something like that, however much internet music is these days.... bla bla bla im done
  4. Sooooo...If I remember correctly, 99 Cadets announced that they were doing a Copeland -ish show...amd then they ended up changing their minds to do "The Big Apple" I think they changed their entire show around...May.......And if I remember right, the Colts changed the last half of their show around June...... I MAY BE WRONG!! But I think thats what I remember, could someone please confirm this? Or correct me on this?
  5. That was funny! b**bs b**bs How about it picks up where the girl left off on Finals night, and she is a DCI judge in reality....ok that sounds lame already. Ya i have no clue what is going to happen, as long as there isn't anyone speaking into a mic saying "crickle crash crak, spackle wackle dooooooooo" or whatever it was.
  6. Ya Jason is a good guy...you are going to dig him. He isn't like a freaky nazi in your face drum corps guy, but instead he knows how to make you WANT to work hard and push yourself--he wasn't one who would kick and scream and beg it out of you every day. He is very respectful to the members and their needs and I think in turn the members would do anything to help him out....(like the time that his luggage got left behind in Murfeesboro, and we all pitched in $5 so he could go and recoup at the local K-mart). His knowedge of brass, and the music industry as a whole is incredible. I learned so much from him in the one season that I marched with him. I am placing my bets that the folks from Debuque are going to continue growing and become a fantastic drum corps, and continue to turn even more heads..... Buckingham and the Colts......thats putting two of my drum corps favorites together, should be a great combo! Congrats to you both!
  7. THATS what I was looking for. Thanks for your response, and thanks for arranging some BRILLIANT shows.
  8. So I am sitting her watching SCV 03 and since it was such a freakin sweet show, I have watched it from every angle imaginable and just recently started to check out the audio options. The percussion judge is great--especially during the drum break. But the thing that caught my attention was the show designer comments....i think it was Kee Pollen and Jim Cassella (i may be wrong) But at the portion of the show where the crowd yells "vanguard!" (which is a total hype) they said something to the effect of this: "nice flag toss here which was easier said than done" "ya and i remember how we set up that whole grand pause moment, uh, silence would have been a little more perfered there" "I think everybody thinks they're supposed to yell 'Vanguard' there...like we want them to do that which is..not necessarily the case" "Ya we were hoping for the contrast of silence to the big push moment" "It seems like we always end up with a moment in our show where that is part of the music and somehow its become this thing at DCI...ha ha ha" SO, were they being incredibly sarcastic? Or what is the deal? Do they 'inadvertantly' write it in? just a random thought....please, tear me to shreds for my lack of information.
  9. not that I am trying to be an old timer and say "back in my day there was no hash marks, all we had was hash......"---cause I'm not but check this pic out: http://www.troopersdrumcorps.org/gallery/d...?album=4&pos=85 A Sunburst on dirt........at a Rodeo........in Casper.......... I remember watching the Blue Knights rehearse in 2000 when they stopped in UT on their way back to Denver, they all of a sudden stopped rehearsal and moved it to the soccer field behind the stadium. I guess they were playing the whole show at the Colorado Rapids game on the 4th of July and had to figure the show out on a soccer field....... someone was using some sort of hash...........
  10. What a good drum corps to go and tryout for, I applaud you Conor in doing what you want to do. And for the sake of everything good and holy (your drum corps career), DO NOT let a significant other get in your way like I have seen in some other threads......that makes me sick to my stomach.
  11. SOoooo Please forgive me for being so STUPID.... But when I read "First Down Ending"--I thought it had something to do with a 1st down in football......I am dumb... are we talking about.....first quiet ending? Like who was the first to finish their show in a not-so-loud in your face style?!!? I don't know the first, but I would have to say that the best is going to have to bee SCV 2000. Forgive me for my incompetance.
  12. KING K-90 is the best Contra ever made........cause thats the first one i ever played and it was awesome. Best Contra Line that I ever heard live (besides 97-98 troopers and 99 BK) was the 1999 Cavaliers. I sat and listened to them warm up one night, and they were incredible. I woud even go out on a limb and argue that 98--Present Cavie contra lines have been FANTASTIC. Best looking Contra Line: SCV. Especially 1997. BAD ###. Best Contra Drill: CADETS
  13. DREAMS...... I had this dream that I walked through a door and there were four hot chicks there waiting for me and they were dancing around like they were the village people or something and there was sweet brass sounds, fat drum licks, and then this ANNOYING as #### "cricker cracker crash crack, bang slash poo dooobiee" coming over a microphone...........nightmare--ish........ ACTUALLY my real dream was last summer when I again realized that I was a drum corps fan for life. I had agirlfriend at the time and in my dream, i had to choose between her and marching another year of drum corps (because miraculously, 24 yr old dudes can still march)....well, I remember getting on the bus and waving by to my girlfriend.... So when I woke up, it was next to her on the couch. She asked me if I was dreaming something and I told her about the dream...... "of course I picked you..........." :sshh: :sshh:
  14. What if some of us took the sheep wagon around for 1-2 weeks at a time and made some cash for the Troopers? Though I bet that that is already a plan in the making, I would give up a week of my time to go and sell some goods.
  15. 525,600 minutes............ "go-hya-ku ni-ju man go sen rop-pya-ku pun" so nani ooku jikan kakarisoo go-hya-ku ni-ju man go sen rop-pya-ku pun dou####e kazoe ra re ruuuuuuu ai ha dooouuuuuuu dou deshou, ai ha doooooouuuuu dou deshou, ai ha doooooooouuuu dou deshou, ai de kazoeeeeeeeeee RU (enter hornline) DA DA DA that is the most pathetic translation i have ever done.
  16. Akachan o nageru no?!?----Japan, though it seems to be an odd phrase for them to comprehend i bet...... Holy throwing babies party....I have heard it a lot.... Is it said because someone in the crowd thinks that you are so FREAKIN good that they want to give you the best thing that they have?!?! Their own child?!? Or did babies become the preffered projectile because hotel room keys, hot dogs, and money were too hard to divy up among all of the corps members? ------or is it more of a "take my child and make him one of you" kind of thing, like Moses getting put in the basket or something, to provide a better life for him......?!?! My question is: WHo is bringing their baby to a drum corps show anyway?!?! I'd throw someones baby if it was whining during Carolina Crowns ballad this year- (that whole show is deserving of all sorts a baby throwin) -I would have probably thrown the parent too.... Any thoughts?
  17. Being able to play loud......phat sound of course...and while running their balls off, get louder and louder and louder........ EXAMPLE: Cadets 1997 PHANTOM 2000
  18. Thats exactly what I was thinking....and couldnt say....well actually when i saw what you wrote, i just wished that i could have written it so eloquently. I hope that those who are willing to help (including myself) are more than just words, but are going to actually act upon their instincts (also including myself). Its TROOPA TIME BABY!!
  19. When you say paper work....all I can think is that you are speaking of some form of tax work..... non-profit organization recognition kind of paperwork..... Do you know something that we all don't and where did you get this info?
  20. This may be kinda random.... But for some weird reason, I remember when I was back in high school and first getting into drum corps (8 yrs ago) and I looked up yea.org or something relating to YEA and I thought that it was a pretty smart idea....but for some reason I remember there being a lot more corps in YEA than there are now. I remember seeing Carolina Crown, Magic of Orlando, and Boston Crusaders on that site as well...... Was I just seeing things? Am I out of my mind? PLease call me out if I am wrong.
  21. BLUE STARS BABY. I say if you come back, come back in STYLE!!!!
  22. As a part of the Troopers organization's plan in resolving this matter, the Executive Director, Mathew Krum, has resigned from his current position. There will be a restructuring of roles within the organization to continue plans of development for the 2006 season. These decisions will ultimately help guide the organization towards its continued goals in the future. There are challenges that lay ahead, but the immeasurable support and affection that existed for the Troopers will be the organization's greatest strength towards a vibrant future. Get back soon!! Go Troopers, Gregg HOLY ISHT!!!!! So as an alumni of the corps this is coming as a shock to me......not a HUGE shock, but a shock. MATHEW CRUM IS FREAKIN COOLEST GUY ON EARTH!!!!!!!!!!! HE is the reason the Troopers didn't fold about 8 years ago. My Rookie year, Drum Corps World reported the corps as folding for the season---that was kinda disheartening to read on my way up to begin all days....BUT He was able to motivate and set in place a strategy to get the corps moving again. I can't believe this.............Matt Krum resigning.......crap. It will all work out though, thats just the way it is..... HDL
