Ya, that One Channel Suite has definitely been overplayed by the Blue Concord Devils. :P -

Yes, of the two corps that tied SCV was the favourite...no contest.

I think the kids can kind of see through this feel good thing, especially in Div II where EVERY corps makes finals. Even in Division III, to have 9 finalists is excessive too, that's half the competing corps!! (yes I know there are 24 Division I corps and 12 make finals)

I loved the Crossmen this year
Slow Adam replied to tradition's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
In Cadets 96...do you have the CD's? The first tear is at 3:28, entrance to the soprano feature, tenors come in a full sixteenth note late. The second tear is at 9:59, this one had the potential to be a trainwreck, but they held it together. Those are the big two, but if you listen closely, there are more than a few times where it sounds like the drumline is listening to the brass and pit...I think the Crossmen tear at quarters was the same thing, the battery was back near the first hash, listening forward to the pit. -
The confusion is in the fact that ECJ and Spartans were crowned Division II Champions on different nights...now, by the letter of the rules ECJ is the champion. But why so many rounds?? prelims/finals worked fine for years, and why do we need 9 Div II corps in finals when there are only 9 Div II corps in competition??????????

Didn't you hear? That's what amps are for, to appeal to the MTV generation :P -

Don't use the word "grand"...look at the mess it's made out of the Division II&III championships. :( -

Were you in Madison in 1999??? I was, and SCV was not the favourite...they were 2nd.
-
I don't know about 96 & 99, I'd say Scouts were the crowd favourite for both years...Phantom was close in 96, but in 99 Madison was hands down the crowd favourite with Santa Clara being second.

Best soloist of the 2000s?
Slow Adam replied to Hrothgar15's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
If U2's membership changed yearly, and their manager put a consistently high quality product on tour each and every year, then we would know their name too. -
Yup, DCM was (is?) the screwiest of them all. DCI is fair. I guess he was on the other side, big numbers from DCM and then REAL numbers from DCI judges.

St. Johns 1998, first (and last) DCM show of the year, although not 20 points, it cost us at least 6 positions. Canadian Open July 29 (DCI): 1 Mandarins 85.700 2 St. Johns 82.500 3 3rd Regiment 77.400 3 General Butler Vagabonds 77.400 5 Les Senateurs 72.800 Coast Guard Open July 31 (DCM): I couldn't find the scores on corpsreps, but I know we scored a 76-78, placed 10th and missed finals! We were beaten by Senateurs, a corps we had a 10 point lead on two days prior! Division III Prelims August 10 (DCI): 1 Mandarins 95.800 2 Phantom Legion 95.700 3 St. Johns 91.700 4 Yamato 91.300 5 Blue Stars 90.700 6 Lone Star 87.900 7 General Butler Vagabonds 86.700 8 Raiders 86.200

I haven't spontaneously "lost it" at the end of a show since Madison 1999. What a great ending! -

Like I said, the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing that night, I could tell it was going to be one of those nights when I first got there by the hassle Paul McGarr and I had getting through the gates courtesy of some over zealous parent volunteers turned security guards (I had a DCI staff pass and Paul had his Judge's pass). -
Ya. You'll probably cringe hearing this, but for me, if the weapon and flagwork is together and nobody drops, it's good. Bonus points for nice coloured flags and colour gradients, double bonus for hot girls in the guard. Sadly, I'd say this is how 90% of brass and percussionists view guard.

There is no place worse than downtown Toronto to park in. Everyone would have to park in the suburbs and take the TTC or GO train in to Union station, just like everyone does now for Jays games...(and hockey when it comes back!!!!!!!!!)

Please don't label anti-amp, anti-woodwind, anti-marching band, anti-Hopkin's Agenda as "Cadet Haters" I can assure you no one on this site hates the corps or its membership...we just hate what their director is trying to do to the activity we love. As far as the front page, I too was wondering why there was no finals story.
