  1. point being, you really cant do the show without props if props are done right..... they are iatrical to the show... just as you really could not do the show or get appropriate feedback if you marched without snares, or the color guard, or the baritones in the horn line.
  2. well, if props are done right, they actually are a marching member on the field. Props are not easy to incorporate on the field. They need to be moved flowingly and be incorporated in the drill. Props actually have their own drill with a marching member assigned to it. If that member is out and the prop does not get to where it needs to be,...... watch out... major collisions. Props are actually vey difficult to coordinate and use effectively. if done right, you actually don't really see them moving around, they just appear in their right spot at the right time for effect. Very difficult to do effectively.
  3. Cute, but I will say horns and guard often are the 2 categories that are the biggest contributors to GE, that being said, these are two of the captions Blue Stars are strongest in....not to mention their spread out flowing drill and better than most years marching. (Blue Stars horns especially, and guard are no fluke this year) We will see, but I would not count Blue Stars out in the long run.
  4. my guess is the around 2pt. gap will remain between Blue Stars and Cavaliers until around San Antonio , then the push one way or another will occur. Blue Stars guard/horns will be evened out by Cavaliers drums. Will see who wins the GE battle in the end.
  5. Ok my early season stab at this: 1. BD 2. Crown 3. SCV 4. Bloo 5. BAC 6. Blue Stars 7. Phantom 8. Cavies 9. Cadets 10. Mandarins 11. Blue Knights 12. Troopers
  6. As I posted on the Cedarburg topic: Blue Stars horns are no fluke..... pure musicality, bold, deep sounding power with lovely soloists. Guard and overall design from a GE standpoint is nothing to underestimate either.... extremely technical, beautiful color, flowing design with the corps covering the entire field throughout the show. Should be fun to see this corps develop over the course of the summer... me thinks quite well. I believe the horns, guard, visual, marching, GE, in the end will carry the day. If you are a horn musician, you will love this show! This is the most sophisticated show I have seen from the Blue Stars in quite a few years. You must see this show live to appreciate it.... viewing on line dose not do it justice. Adjustments for sure will be made, especially drums.....time will tell, but think it will be a dog fight 7-11 until the very end...Good luck to all!!!

  9. agree 100%, how can we contain the new electronic/mixing board/microphone/professional mixing board staff, arms race, with some reasonable parameters,
  10. very excited about this team for Blue Stars, With Wunderlich writing both brass and front ensemble, and the new brass staff... yes
  11. Woodwinds? bahhh yesterdays news... what about strings??? Blue Devils won this year with an electronic violin....how about an electronic string ensemble?? (amplified string base, cello, viola ?) a marching string section, yeah baby!! Be sure to keep your interval or risk getting your eye poked out with a vigorously playing violin bow
  12. I honestly like the direction things are going. This past years top 12 was one of the most entertaining shows top to bottom I have ever seen in drum corps. I say bring on guard innovation. I am looking forward to the day when objects other than rifles/guns/swords are thrown up in the air and pikes with flags on them are used. I cant wait until new things are thrown around in unison and coordination to great effect. Drum corps is no longer a spectacle paying homage to the military and the American flag.... it has not been since the break with the VFW/ American Legion and the formation of DCI. It has evolved since this break, and I predict, will continue to evolve into greater and more spectacular musical, dance, and motion events by young adults and teenagers that defy belief.
  13. No particular order, these stick in my mind the most Blue Stars Bluecoats Crown Boston Blue Devils
  14. Women of the 2019 Blue Stars battery!!!
  15. Great year Blue Stars. Dynamics, power, grace, Congratulations!!! The corps overall seems to be in a better place than it was last year at this time....improved in all sections and areas both on an off the field. Cant wait to see how you build upon this year for next!!
  16. Show them what your made of today, and keep the pedal to the metal from here until the end. Good Luck Blue Stars!!!
  17. Devils and Coats in their 2some and Vanguard mastur****** by themselves in 3rd
  18. Im not sure about cavies in that pack.... I think Boston and Crown are in their own 2some
  19. Keep your eye on the trail Blue Stars!!! Don't look back and keep the focus on your own sled going forward. Widening the gap between Blue Knights, closing the gap between Cavaliers. Cant wait to see this show as it continues to polish and when it is complete in Indianapolis. Now, may the dog race continue, MUSH!! to the finish line. FCO!
  20. and when the entire package is out there come finals week, along with continued cleaning, watch out!
  21. And there is so much more to be added to this show yet!!! Will be very interesting to see where this ends up. And if the horn score tonight was where it should have been, (and has been) even a higher score for sure
  22. Great show this year, Blue Stars. Horns and GUARD!!! and that DRILL.....YOZA!!! Keep the peddle to the metal!!! FCO Good luck to all!
  23. welcome to the world the majority of corps have faced for years and continue to face every year. Getting and retaining staff and members.... Better have/develop a good damage control program to rebuild confidence in the program, marketing, recruitment, and 365 day fundraising campaign.....bake sales, door to door candy sales, grant writers, attending high school band programs, hamburger sales, t shirt sales etc.....Cadets may no longer be able to simply rely upon their past history and benefit of the doubt. Staff takes money, (being paid on time) a stable positive environment, and a desire to want to work for you. Same with recruiting kids.
  24. For all of this discussion about bringing designers/ instructors back or trying to get people to come back, whats to say they are not happy where they are and dont necessarily want to come back? Or, that it is not financially prudent for the organization to spend the money to get particular people back. The Cadets seem to now be in the same situation most other corps are in......trying to find good up and coming staff, at a decent price, that dosnt break the corps back, and want to be with your corps. This is not easy
