  2. Okay, so then it did work, because you clearly enjoyed it, and it got 2nd place... FYI, the guard is not going to be split equally...much like last year, except about 3 or 4 more boys. But good job. next.
  3. In case you didn't see it the first time I posted. coughTomBracecough
  4. Phantom got 2nd in 1978 with firebird... How is it that "it hasn't worked yet?" And to campare Phantom to Cavies (97 firebird) is like comparing apples and oranges because it is two completely different approaches to that same idea... Oh, where were you last year when the guard was co-ed? They seemed to do just fine then too...
  5. Well, that happened to me last year. I wasn't going to be able to afford it, but then the opportunity lent itself to me, and I ended up flying to a camp 4 days after realized I was trying out. I hadn't been playing my horn, and only had the music for 4 days... Needless to say I marched a top 3 corps this summer. So it is very possible, it just depends on how you react to the situation you are in.
  6. Not every day. I think mainly at move in when we are all fat and out of breath.
  7. there were no money issues with Phantom. People made a big deal out of something that did not even affect the corps.
  8. I'd like to know the justification behind that, but since this is offtopic, maybe not.
  9. First of all, logical fallacies will get you no where. Secondly, JARED, with an "A" as spelled out in his username, has not done any preaching on the matter of the qualitative value of their hornline... His point was that crown is not the only corps in existence to "buy into" their pedagogy, and they are not the only corps to use "breath dah" as a means for articulation... Which is completely true in my own opinion. I don't see what the logic would be in not breathing and then articulating with a "tu" or "thu," or whatever ridiculous syllable you can come up with to begin your notes with. I understand that the technique may go further in depth than that sole concept, but whatever the case, good technique is/should pretty much be a universal idea. Anywho-- happy trails and grammar check! *edited because I accidentally quoted 6 people.
  10. I marched a corps that was close to home, and cost effective and did not find exactly what I had envisioned drum corps to be. The following year I auditioned for my dream corps, and had the best summer of my life. Sometimes you need the other experience to realy appreciate the activity. If you have plenty of years left, I say march the one closer to you, and if you decide that you want to march again, then go for the dream corps. If you are aging out, I say suck it up and deal with the tight finances and do anything in your power to get sponsored. It truly makes a world of difference when you are "in love" with the group you march in. Good luck!
  11. Well, he established norms for the corps, so each corps is judged on the same standard. He explained it pretty well-- who gets time towards their percentage for doing what. I think it would be impossible to judge perfectly because of what you present, but since he established norms for the general movement of each corps, it actually does work pretty well.
  12. Haha, make sure that you add Mahler to that, with full dynamics. Man, I would have regiment play that at my wedding just because its freakin loud, and for no other real reason considering it doesn't really fit the whole wedding motif haha.
  13. Aren't JD and company arrangers... as in they aren't composing original music... As in... The music is really popular/well known already, and they are just arranging it for a drum corps...As in... chances are, the music is more than likely taught in music history classes especially in the case of JD ( Biebel, Mahler, etc.)?
  14. I was being facetious. I guess I need to use b**bs :P b**bs :P faces like that to clarify. I havent said anything cross about them anywyas.
  15. I persoanlly think gold clashes with their uniforms. But what can ya do.
  16. I lived it all summer, and now I want to see it... I paid enough in tour fees ya think I could see my own show!! :P
  17. That bothered me beyond belief! Oh well... I still think it was a conspiracy due to the finals placements guilt now setting in. ^0^
  18. Who cares at this point. You all will find something to hate about Phantom no matter what they do, even if they are both musically and visually flawless... And you'd do the same with any other corps. I find it really obnoxious how no one can appreciate a drum corps for what they are. Everyone sits around all summer at their ####### computers typing away about how Phantom is crass, the Cadets show is awful, Boston will never be good enough for your tastes, Glassmen this, Crossmen that, and we don't play G bugles anymore so we all inevitibly suck no matter what. That being said, isn't there anything positive people have to say about the kids on the field? For God's sake they run around in the heat all day long for 80+ days-- nothing is going to be absolutely flawless-- we're all humans. I just can't believe that supporters of the activity can only talk about the demise of other corps and in this thread more specifically, the demise of Phantom in finals when it HAS ALREADY HAPPENED. I understand this is an online forum and everyone is entitled to their opinions but I was just wondering when the respect for the magnitude of difficulty of what these kids are doing will ever be seen in your eyes. Most of you should understand-- you guys were there at some point!!-- and I'm sure you don't like the feeling you get in inside when someone takes a #### on something you worked your ### off all summer for. </Rant off>
  19. I didn't accuse anyones approach, I just don't feel that either of those hornlines are the same on the field.
  20. I think Phantom and Crown are two completely different animals. Sure, they might sound similar in the lot, but not on the field.
  21. No. But regardless, there were only a hundfull off drum corps rookies. I think there were about 15 total. Something of that nature.
