  1. my best pit has to be the cadets, they were unreal...with phantom being a supremely close second. bluecoats were smoking as well a couple of pits that i thought flew under the radar were scv's pit and bd's pit. i think most people ignored them because either someone was saying "yowza" or their drumline was playing matched...both pits were fairly good in their own right. i remember seeing esperanza's pit at san antonio (i didn't know who they were without their jackets on at the time) and they were either rocking out or it was just a good day for them...
  2. yea me too^^^ but the last two were alright...some of those looked like a mid-1700's british army uniform or something hahaha
  3. alright, are you guys ready for this? here it goes... 1. capital regiment that's right, i said it. we are going to win dci!!! haha but seriously now 1. phantom 2. cavaliers 3. cadets 4. bd 5. bluecoats 6. madison 7. scv 8. crown 9. bk 10. crusaders 11. crossmen 12. capital regiment call me crazy, but i gotta feeling that i am 100% correct on this matter...
  4. just a quick question for any of the other timpanists that may be reading this thread...did any of you use (or even have) gauges on your timpani? i had them, although i didn't stare at them for every single tuning. mainly just used them as reference points as i would be playing one drum and tuning another...foot memory played a major role in my...playing... another thing on tuning, don't you hate it when you run a rep, play the whole thing solid and hit that last note flat.....yarg..... and just one more thing to add....swriverstone, you've made a clear point that power was lacking in drumcorps timps...but have you thought about maybe drum corps timpani have a different approach for a reason? i'm certainly not trying to cause any unrest between you and i. because i got many comments on having a solid presence by the judges through the summer. just thinking maybe we're doing what's right for our activity. i play guitar. i'm very much a heavy metal guitar man. i don't understand jazz guitar one bit, i used to think everything they did was wrong, until i figured out that they were just different...
  5. because only certain people can think at our level...everyone else is just way not cool enough to even understand what goes on in the pit... chillin dizzy bat chillin hardee's visits chillin practical jokes chillin
  6. well...being that i wore one for two years, and that i sat directly in front of the drum major, i would change cap reg's unis to all look like the black drum major uni, and somehow make the drum major's white... i think that would be sweet...or even a darker blue, i thought we looked like a kid's room or something.... phantom back in black scv back to 2004 unis, those were effin sweet
  7. the most fabled myth ever of course 11. "free day" hahaha...
  8. cap reg did have a fun hornline to sit in front of this year...and last year... but i don't know, it seems to me like everyone is missing the point of the word UNDERRATED...if you're hornline is making top 5 forever, they're probably not underrated...so this would count out your blue devils, cadets, scv, and cavaliers votes...how could you call a group underrated that finished so high in the rankings on a consistent basis? naming off underrated corps (to me anyways) means giving credit to corps that don't usually get the credit for what they did because everyone can't let go off their nuts while talking about the top 5 horns...so with that said... i thought blue knights this year sounded waaaay better than last year same with southwind this year too
  9. cap reg didn't have any sort of medical personnel...or at least not one i was aware of
  10. speaking of texas and drum corps...are there actually any drum corps from texas now? jeezus...if some crazy rich texas guy started a div. 1 texas corp, i would totally go to it...because it would be the biggest bunch of crazy mofo's to ever walk the face of the planet... except state of texas...
  11. i'm really not trying to be an a-hole, but i can't believe crown's is getting favorite tabs...wow, i thought it was kind of silly although it was thematically fitting... cadets of course was amazing, i can't say anything that hasn't already been said about it...so i won't... i think it's funny that only cap reg people will say cap reg ballad, but i must admit, it was pretty sweet bluecoats were pretty solid
  12. Hahaha, I got one... Back Story: Last year I got sick and my mom (who is slightly crazy) called my pit arranger to get me some medicine or I don't know what but whatever...Which was weird only because my mom didn't have her cell phone number. But alas, my mom, through some form of witchcraft or black magic got her number...again, whatever... Funny Part: So I show up kind of sick to one camp. Pit arranger informs new pit tech of past happenings. So being that the new pit tech has (as well as myself) quite the sarcastic attitude, took his chance to burn me. Which was funny. So I was like, "hey, I can't this crap off of the new guy"...So, with the arranger's help, I formulated a plan. This time, I got my mom to call the new dude during his lunch. So she did, and proceeding to completely annihilate him via phone. So he felt like crap, and went to talk to the arranger about the situation. So she calls me over to talk about it (much to the dismay of the tech). So she starts asking me questions about the summer blablablabla...I tried to sound pitiful, but whenever I looked at his face and it's absolutely slaughtered expression-I burst out laughing...He was then informed of the joke, and proceeded to bow to me. Everyday. And he got my lunch, and washed my clothes. And bought me all kinds of delicious resturant food all summer...okay I made that last part up, but he was absolutely stunned for about thirty minutes while we all laughed at the situation...and the dog behind the fence...
  13. Alright, so did anyone else find the ringing bell annoying? Or was I the only one who heard it? Has there been anything else like this at past finals? I don't recall anything like that last year...and I hope it doesn't make the dvd haha...
  14. hmm....so i guess i wasn't doing anything terribly wrong hahaha well, my first year they put a lot of emphasis on squeezing the crap out of the fulcrum (which did hurt quite often) this past year more emphasis was put on snapping the wrist and not squeezing so hard...more legato style i guess... so it seems that one year was based on more staccato tech and one was more legato tech...hmmm... one thing i know i'm good at though is tough pedaling passages. this past year i had an absolute ton and a half of changes. i pretty muched played the bari parts hehe...i think i counted 275 (which is probably a little bit low because i did it in my head and i suck at math and counting and stuff like that)
  15. how bout houston? haha, okay stop laughing now... but seriously...how about houston? it can't possibly be worse than foxboro... somethings you guys have mentioned about problems with stadiums are funny to me...like housing-cap reg's housing was 2 HOURS from the stadium....or parking...for the pit to pull equipment to the gate was like a mile and took 30 minutes at least. there and back. buttpain.
  16. yea...um...i hated the prop that we used...even we made jokes about the sundial being a shark or whatever... i thought the cadets door was super sweet the ladders were lame the postcards were lamer
  17. well...i guess i need to get into the earlier years of drum corps... 2004 SCV-where scherezade came out of that thing at finals...that was cool and i like the madison ending...i don't know how long they've been doing that for but i get totally hyped when they do
  18. i think my exact words were 15th place is not what bothers me, and that i am extremely proud of my group for what we accomplished. i could not have been more happy than to hear the recording at the end of our show at quarters-and if you are not even going to read my posts, then don't comment about them because you look stupid. look, all i was asking was did anybody else have a negative feeling towards a past corps that you marched for? i don't think it was a terribly hard question... and i'm not airing dirty laundry about anybody. i think i'm allowed to say that i absolutely despise someone. giving yall the reasons WHY i think he is rude would be airing dirty laundry. so lets all slip back in to the PC world now...
  19. hey man, as you can guess...i'm a timpanist, and have been (seriously) for the past two years of drum corps (with capital regiment) and i've got a couple of questions for you 1. about french grip-i've been told both ends of the fulcrum strength are acceptable...in 2004 i squeezed the poop out of the mallets...this past year, less emphasis was placed on the fulcrum strength and moreso on the snap of the wrist...is it just two different schools of thought or what? both techniques required a ton of practice and both hurt quite a bit at points... 2. what are the big differences between "classical" timpani and drum corps timpani? 3. what did you think of my playing, just for kicks? i thought i had a pretty challenging book both years...and quite honestly, if you didn't hear me, you weren't listening :) :P :) because there were some parts where i was hitting the poop out of the drums hopefully i will be able to continue playing timpani (although it won't be with cap reg anymore) and i hope your insight will better my playing and all that jazz...
  20. uh, who said placement determines whether you smoked something or not? my pit smoked our show...phantom (the 3rd place corps, in case you forgot) smoked their show...and to say that bd executed their show at an "extremely average" level is just asanine.... although i do agree that their show was weird...and probably could have been better planned (and as mentioned before) told more of the story without mr. yowza
  21. drum corps, working hard, all night bus rides, long rehearsal days, bursting every ounce of energy out of me at every performance to end up in a dissapointing 15th place is not what bothers me about capital regiment...i am absolutely proud of what my group has done (for two years) the reason i went back was for one staff member, who made the summer as much fun as it could have been...but now i definitely think (whether or not i do drum corps again) it is time to move on what bothers me about capital regiment, quite honestly, is the corps director. i've never met a more ill-tempered, rude, or two-faced (those are the only "nice" words i know) man in my entire life, and that is the absolute truth. i do realize though, and am quite sure that it wasn't easy putting a corps together...but i believe administration is what is holding cap reg back. that's just MY humble opinion though.
  22. OMG!!! that bell ###### me...it had to interrupt every single movement of every single show...exactly madison's drum solo haha...but seriously, that was annoying
