Ok ................ I've been reading this post mostly about

narration. But narration has already been used in a DCA

show. Now, I'm going to need some help here .............

in 75, in the Providence, RI show the Bucs used narration.

I was there, I heard it. What they did was play Firebird for the

closer then they started playing these jazz riffs slowly building

while the narrator does his thing. When the narrator is finished

they open up & lets the crowd have it.

What I need help with is this...................... they didn't use the

narration at DCA finals. Was the Providence show the only time

they did this, or was it at other shows? I don't remember hearing this

at other shows. Was Providence the only show?

Inquiring minds want to know!!!!! b**bs b**bs b**bs

I do seem to remember something like that happening before the Maynard Ferguson reprise at the end of their show but, I remember it from 1973. All those years kinda run together now

don't know but if they didn't use it at dca which i know they didn't they probably got a penalty. of they didn't then they probaably would have used it. in 1975 talking on the field was a penalty.......although i was quite the chatter box on the field

Hmmmm I don't think you would want to do that if I were you. Just saying...ya know? I would be VERY violent if ya know what I mean and there would be no more DCP postings by you. However, I am sure you were trying to be funny but, if you were, your sense of humor is lacking.

Ah now.. easy easy , man. My intent was not to offend but to diffuse. I've never met you or your wife, which made it kinda funny to me (in a vaudeville-kind-of-way), but had no intention of compromising anyone's integrity. However, it's apparent I did offend - please accept my sincere apologies.

Yes, the song was "Blue Birdland" and the corps came off the front sideline onto the warming track where possible. Sort of a tribute to "the boss" long before Springsteen, Maynard was "the Boss".

Yes, penalties.

No, at DCA's.

Yeah, my memory of that past Buccaneer season (was it '75?) is the narration was ONLY during trooping of the stands.

For the young'uns, trooping refers to exiting the field after competition, turning towards the grandstand, then passing in revue down the track, right to left. Usually with headgear off, sweated performers, all enjoying appreciative crowd response, sometimes clapped in cadence. A beautiful moment that happened 5-6 times per event. Unfortunately, trooping the stands, and other traditional behaviors, has been cast off at most events.

In the big picture, creating events less worth the price of admission. Hard to figure.

I also remember a Statesmen show, 99, in Allentown finals that had Dave Bruni on the field with a mic'd megaphone during Chorus Line starting the show. It was very effective and completely worked for the show.

Didn't Kingston have a guy with a megaphone that same year during their "Lights, Camera, Action" show?
