ereese
No. He is a Legend. I knew who he was and I recall certain things about him but, I prefer to remember him and his accomplishments from afar. He was a big name and achiever in Drum Corps. Andy, you need to write a book!! What's that you say Mrs. Robinson, "Jumpin'" Joe and left and gone away??

ajlisko
What's that you say Mrs. Robinson, "Jumpin'" Joe and left and gone away?? Here's something I wrote upon Joe's passing in 2005 ... he and I got to teach together once more at The Park City Pride ... Jumpin’ Joe Genero Not many can claim, The kind of fame, That came from being Jumpin’ Joe. Brooklyn born, A friend to all, Was part of the charm of Jumpin’ Joe. So many were touched by his talent. So many were inspired by his way. So much love shared by pupil and teacher, If I could reword a song it would say: Where have you gone Joe Genero? Drum Corps turns its lonely ear to you. What’s that you say Mr. Winkelman? Jumpin’ Joe has left and gone away, But, his music stays here for us to play. Tell us once more, To play so very loud. As you cup your ears, Looking down from your cloud. And we’ll wait for your cut, To let us know when we’re done. As Jumpin’ Joe leaps, Signaling the sound of the final gun. I vividly remember the first time I "met" Joe ... I was a young teen and he had just started teaching St. Raphael's ... I was walking home from a Saturday drum practice and he pulls up in his 64 Chevy "boat" and says, "Lisko ... hop in ... where do ya live?" ... and there I was ... ridin' with Joe ... and as he drove, he was like a kid ... drummin' on the dashboard ... talkin' drum corps ... not paying attention to anything on the road ... "You'll like what I'm gonna do for the corps, he said ... Father Louie wants a Queensmen sound and I know I can do that" ... Joe was an eternal cheerleader ... there is no person I would want to teach a new corps other than him ... he simply "willed" you to succeed ... and he truly enjoyed it! ... I'm sure Ironlips got the same vibes about him that I did ... he met him at just about the same age ... :-)
