JimF-LowBari
Not trying to cause trouble, but how does DCP "know" that the Fleetwood group has crossed all the Ts and dotted all the Is on the legal issues. Remember reading this group was looking for old Fleetwood vinyl and can't remember what I read about legalities. Also last I remember, Drum Corps News had the rights to re-release Fleetwood sounds but the fire in the late 1970s killed that idea (have one of those re-releases at home). OK, think I found the answer... Checked Fleetwoods home site and appears the Fleetwood company has always existed in one form or another. However the DC master recordings were lost at a fire at the Fleetwood company in 1975. Somehow I thought DCN had the recordings and Fleetwood had been out of business... Oh well..... PS - Reason why Fleetwood got back into the DC recording business is because people were calling the office wanting to buy. Heh, guess it does work at times.... LancerLegend
I inquired about two weeks ago, about the Legacy CD Collection 1972-1977. The lady I spoke with said there were none in stock, and there were no plans to offer them in the future. When I asked why, she said, "No one wants those old recordings." I just hung my head, and hung up the phone. No one? How about someone with the entire set, starts burning a few new sets for the "no ones" and gives them away for the cost of postage and handling.......something tells me DCI would send out the law firm of Dewey, Cheatem & How and sue their butts off. FWIW - Wifey got me Fleetwood's CDs of the 1971 World Open and the Reflections series album of the 27th Lancers for Xmas. Awesome baby ! pearlsnaredrummer77
I'm no legal expert-that's for sure. But I wonder if DCI couldn't get a grant (public or private) to restore, conserve and make available (free of charge) the older music. One way to do this would be a media player without an actual download kind of like the ones on Myspace. So people could listen to and enjoy the music, but noone is making any money. It's all If done in this manner, it would kind of be like archive preservation. rather than a money making gig. Wouldn't that be likely to keep ascap etc., off DCI's butt? DCI should actually be doing something like this anyway as they have a duty to archive the activity.
