Has a penalty ever prevented a corps from winning?

okay, I admit, I did not read the entire thread, but would the disqualification in 1975 of the Hawthorne Muchachos count in this category and easily debatable as a lost championship due to being penalized for "over-aged" members? or, did I just open Pandora's box?

Brilliant!!! I think you're on to something here! Can't believe no one else thought of it earlier. Seems to me that "disqualification" is the ultimate "penalty."

Sad day though...what a great corps.

How's this for an analogy: I was bowling with some friends last night and we lost the final game by only a few pins in the 10th frame. I was the last bowler and all I needed to do was pick up my spare to put us ahead. I missed the spare. I apologized to the team and felt, in some way, responsible for losing the game. However, if ANY ONE of my teammates had scored a few more points or if anyone else had picked up an additional spare, we would have won. It's a team effort. Likewise, a corps' score is a cumulative score for the entire unit. Yes, one or two members may have committed an infraction that resulted in a tick/penalty, but the entire corps contributes to the overall score.

This is similar to when I used to play golf on a regular basis.

If I had only not shot two to four over par on each hole, I would have scored better.

Did you see? They closed our favorite thread! Now we'll have to find another way to annoy you-know-who.

PS - I use Firefox. It has a built in spell checker.

If so, when? How did you feel about it? If not, how would you feel if something like that happened?

Here's a little bit of trivia about penalties. 1971 Blue Rock lost both the Shriners Internatial Championships as well as the Dream Invitational by the same 2.0 flag code violation. (Yes...2.0....NOT .02). They went on to win CYO. Without the two losses by penalty they would have won 3 National titles in the same year.
