What would you say the odds are that a corps OTHER THAN Cadets, Cavies or Blue Devils takes the championship? When's the last time that happened? 1999? Even that was a tie with BD. 1996? Same thing. 1991 Star?? Wow. That's an amazing run for those three corps. OR, a living example of lack of diversity in drum corps?? I don't know. Not trying to start something here.

Well, it's not a lack of diversity, it's a lack of parody at the very top. No fault of the top 3, for sure, but this is probably caused by a combination of many factors. Recruiting, great talent, great staff, creative people who just "get it," money, popularity, great marketing, facilities, and more. One can say it is difficult to take on tradition, and certainly BD, Cavies, and Cadets are some of the more veteran and popular corps in the business with tons of tradition and success backing their marketing efforts. However, so does SCV and Phantom, and both of them have been up and down, very inconsistent. Madison has tons of tradition, but was last in the top 5 in 1995, and they have been very inconsistent as of late.

None of this is to pick on any corps, but it shows that only a few have found the right formula.

For this year I think the top 3 will again be tough to beat. But I like Bluecoats and Crown, and Phantom and SCV as well. Those are 4 very solid corps that certainly stand a chance. Will Madison be top 12, will Glassmen improve? Will Crossmen move up and will Troopers contend for top 12 or 13? Can the Blue Knights give us more of what they did in 2006? Can Blue Stars be top 12?

There will be some interesting stories this summer.
