Hey did you guys hear? Those Japs are attacking Pearl Harbor!

" Japs " ?

whoa...... that's like using the " N " word with the Asian- American community.

Moderator might want to consider closing this thread down.

It's had both sexist and then racist remarks, and as such needs to be taken out of it's misery in my opinion.

Are we talking toga-like unis? There were some in 2002, and they weren't pretty then.

eh. i knew someone was going to jump on that.

imo, the perception of that word as racist needs to be curtailed. it's a shortening of the word "japanese". that's it. it's not like "the w word" for hispanics where it's specifically attacking something. it's just a shorter version of a completely proper word.

Yeah, also women are allowed to vote, drive, and wear pants. Where have you been for the last century?

But shouldn't they really be in the kitchen, where they belong?

I kid...I kid.

Ask any members of the Asian- American Community if the term " the Japs" in the phrase '"The Japs attacked Pearl Harbour" is offensive. I think you'll find that while " the Japs " is a" proper word " in your vocabulary, it is most definately considered a pjorative and racist word useage in many quarters of the Asian- American community.
