In 1984 the Los Angeles had the "All-American College Marching Band". 800 members did both the opening and closing ceremonies.

I think that $ 5,000,000.00 is their Olympic bid budget !!!

I would think that their actual Olympic budget would be MORE that Beijing's 40 billion.:smile::mat:

(ah, to be a tax payer in Chicago in 8 years !!) NOT !!!

Chicago has got a knack of hitting up the private sector for high profile public projects like this. The Olympic bid budget is $50 million, mostly from the private sector. But yeah, the actual games budget is $5 billion - a mix of public and private money. The low number raised some eyebrows with the IOC, but Chicago already has alot of the infrastructure and facilities that Beijing needed to build. Apparently the IOC has relaxed its financial guarantee requirements as well to avoid the financial strains on host cities that have happened in the past.

How about selections from Chicago's most famous band....CHICAGO! "Take Me Back To Chicago," "Free," "25 or 6 to 4," "Beginnings," "Colour My World."

Did it. 1988.

As long as we're programming the 2016 Chicago Olympics here, I say we bring back baseball. Suspend the season during the Olympics (you know, how hockey does it? Or in a strike year?), and let the winning team in the All-Star game represent the US. Gives winning the All-Star team an added incentive in addition to home team for the World Series.

Imagine this line up for the recent Olympic baseball team...

not going to happen, mostly due to MLB's position on the matter, and the fact that they have created their own World Championships to replace that of the olympics.

but umm....

Cadets were great in Atlanta, very fun to watch on TV. If Chicago gets the nomination (which I doubt it will) then I would hope to see either Cavies or Phantom leading the charge for promoting the activity there.

MLB suspending the season would never happen.

As for DCI taking part in the Ceremonies, with their season winding down and gearing up towards finals week it would be a logistical nightmare, IMO.

How about right now? City and Cook County sales tax is about 10%. A pack of cigarettes in Chicago is about 8 bucks!

How's Manny or Ichiro or Big Papi gonna play for the US?

And, for what my humble opinion's worth, the Cadets sucked in Atlanta in 96. Couldn't have been less indicative of what we as drum corps people really do.
