Park and Blow

Recommended Posts

OK here is a must see and hear park and blow moment which just floored me on the Fan Network...1991 Phantom Regiment. The colossal chords at the end of their OTL are like, whooooa! and that is just the response they got from the crowd. Check it out all you park and bark fans.

Yeap, looks like Madison Scouts are the winners of Park and Blow.

We used to hate having to go on right after a Madison performance. Having to stand at the gate entrance, listening to the crowd go nuts for another stellar Madison performance. We come on with our technical expertise and on some occasions we're able to step up and get the crowd on their feet. Other times it's just not going to happen.

Madison definitely had a number of exciting performances to witness.

It just hit me thagt in all the years we've been debating G vs Bb we've always talked about volume.....but it's NOT all about volume...it's about PROJECTION.

I had this very argument with teh coach of ULCA's fencing team over the weekend at a high school tournament (which he was running, since he also has a HS team). He was trying to call all members of a particular event to the bout table, but no one was responding, so I did the call....one of the benefits to having been a DM!!

He said he was louder than me....but I said I project better...and people responded to me!

So which PROJECTS better with an equally skilled line of people...G or Bb?

G

Why? Less tubing = more air. More air, rounder tone and you don't have to play loud to project more sound.

Ask anyone who heard us or the Troopers or Madison back in the early 70s - Anaheim, too even Blue Rock could blow the doors off the barn - and when we had the 35 man horn line we could bring it too.

I think Hy wrote for the middle voices more skillfully than any one of the time and always in the power range for the Euphoniums and Mellos.

And I won't even mention the power some of the senior corps BITD>

One of my favorite moments in drum corps is when motion on the field stops and the corps, using only brass and percussion, tries to push a stadium about three feet off its foundation. Any shows come to mind? Which corps have given fans the most memorable "park and blow?" (Which year?)

Only 3 feet?
