  1. Sound / look familiar? Be Italian. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foqgaD6-ERI
  2. It's a regional matter. To the east - the west coast scorps are inflated thereby substantiating the east coast scorps are correct.....somehow. To the west coast - it's the natural pecking order of scores. Look at the DCI results - they don't care about the other scorps. So - it's the natural progression of the season year in and year out. Scorps are wrong until the west coast meets the east coast and inflation becomes real - at least in the sense of placement. Change the year - more of the same.
  3. Given the spreads in captions it's going to be a good year for competition. As far as the comment regarding losing 4 in a row. That's B.S IMO [ said in a non-argumentative way, more I disagree, sip my beer, here's my response ]. It's design driving the results. If the design is flawed you're not going to come back from that. If the design is equivalent, then it's competition time. It's much more fun to have a competitive season of back and forth, best performance wins, than an undefeated season. Let's enjoy the ride and enjoy the performances as the kids strive to do their best. Rob [ BD Alumn ]
  4. Congratulations Carolina Crown on your win tonight. Thank you for coming out to California. We love to see corps back east come out west. I think you'll realize how much that's appreciated by the crowd responses you'll see. We like great competition and great corps. Enjoy your trip.....and be sure to have Clam Chowder in a Bread Bowl in SF, or at least Ciopinno, or Molinari Salami, or enjoy the sun, or ....well..... Enjoy your trip, enjoy the crowds, and relish the competition. We're glad you made the trek. Rob [ Blue Devils Alumn ]
  5. Interesting. Most posts on DCP are knee jerk reactions, no? [ following post not pointed at RockyGranite - just a general post] I look at it this way. Go to DCI's web page. What do you see? You see the corps that want to have a say about how their product is used by an organization that is touting their corps product. The G7 when I just looked...was the front page. One would have to assume that's the attraction. Those corps on the front page. Yes, I have knee jerk reaction posts and we can all word parse to our hearts content (me too :) ) The reality is, the G7 corps are the main attraction. Assuming those corps leave won't have an impact is ludicrous. For those that want to feel like they have some semblance of control over the top corps is frankly, IMO, stupid. They have nothing. Having said that last statement, it's in the best interest of all corps to work together. However, to try to shut out the top tier corps for whatever reason isn't going to work. The top tier corps, frankly, are the main attraction.....and they know it. To ignore that fact is well.....[ no more knee jerk reactions ].....
  6. I'm going to spew out a bunch of knee jerk comments and reactions based on posts I read. Admittedly, I have not read the entire thread but my impression is that a vast majority of posters feel the G7 are wrong. What if they are right? Having said that...what is the ultimate goal? Is it to be able to run shows? OK. G7 can do that, so can DCI. Is it to run good organizations? Hmmm... G7 can do that. DCI? Well, membership didn't dwindle because of the G7, from what I've read on DCP it was DCI. However, DCI has survived this long. Is it to promote the activity? What good is that if corps are dieing? I saw people complain about entertaining shows. If that's true, then based on postings of every corps and their haters, G7 can leave and problem solved, no? What corps do people really go to shows to see? Be real. It's not the corps that are on first. If that were true, the stands would be just as full at the start of the show as it would be at the end of the show. So.......who are the corps people want to see? I know mom and pops will say they want to see their kids corps and ALL the corps because they all work so hard. Others with no affiliation will say the same thing. Even still, more will say that everybody should watch ALL of the corps because they ALL work so hard. That's fine. But can anybody explain why the crowds at DIV II or lower (are there any?) during championships week is not the same as the World Class corps?? Sounds like a number in this thread are ready to cavalierly throw away that crowd that shows up at World Class finals. They must be there to see the top acts, no? Okay. Now they are gone. What happens? DCI posted a list of the top downloads, to watched, etc. Those were G7 corps. I think for those that hope they leave, what do they really think would happen? Some have post...if G7 corps leave, they don't get to keep their names. Really? DCI made the corps or corps made DCI? I'm not advocating pro/con. Just throwing out knee jerk thoughts. The issue is complex and full of emotion. The wrong choice is to say "buh-bye" to the G7. The rest of DCI will lose IMO. I don't know what the solution is, but I do agree the top corps should have a say in the activity that they are the headliners in. Otherwise, based on their proposals, they will do to DCI what DCI did to the organizations that preceded it (VFW, etc). I'm sure people supporting corps during those years weren't too keen on the corps leaving to create DCI either. The corps felt they had to for a reason. I wouldn't discount the G7 and their abilities. Those that do will be watching something else in the summers to come I fear.
  7. I'm still blown away at no apology by the organization. Says a lot. All the joy they've brought to audiences and POOF. Gone.
  8. "rock-star like" behavior? That's what kicked the corps out? Classy. Aren't we all taught during our time in corps that our behavior represents drum corps? What is the definition of "rock star-like behavior"?
  9. The Renegades should apologize to their fans, their supporters, their members. Quite a contrast from a corps that utilizes the bingo facilities of a corps that is associated with class. Demonstrate the same class.
  10. Remembering Jason Lowe. I think about him around this time of year. Recalling Jason listening to Spirit when Jason passed away. What else can you say. He loved drum corps.
  11. Interesting. Where I sat the crowd was ecstatic with Blue Devils. Where were you, the bathroom?
  12. I was in the lot watching Cadets warm up. Nice horn line sound. It's been 5 years since I've seen a drum corps show. Fun to catch one corps in the lot. Now the show....what I saw of it. Before you get all fired up why I didn 't see more, my kid had two baseball games that day and that's all I had time for. So go pound sand if you're not happy with that. Let me preface this by saying I marched long ago in a DCI contender. I don't care who wins, I just like seeing great drum corps. Call me a homer if I support my own corps, but if you know me, you know I could care less about the scores or placement Cavies I missed Cavies but from the sounds of the crowd while I waited to get to my seat, the crowd LOVED them! Quite different from the reviews I read on line. Perhaps those with unbiased opinions really enjoy the performances and not worry about "...what it's about". Cadets I like them. I absolutely loved the "Do You Hear What I Hear" segment of the show. The horn line was absolutely beautiful. Bluecoats Cool beans show. Noticed the bass drums with the cool looking drum heads. Is this the wave of the future, customized drum heads to match the show? Saw one bass drummer loose his mallet. Bummer. Really enjoyed the show. SCV Liked the musical part of the show. Visually, from the 3rd deck. Looked like a mess. Tons to clean, not sure they can get it done. Phantom Regiment The contrast of the guard uniforms from the corps proper was the best of the night IMO. Very start contrast and readable from the 3rd deck. I enjoyed PR. Blue Devils The first BIG sound of the night. They were on fire and from where I sat the crowd really enjoyed them. I loved their show and the sound of the horn line. HIghly entertained. Crown Another BIG sounding horn line. Loved hearing their show. The show is obviously designed for a dome with the tymp sets on the side lines. Very cool at the Georgia Dome. I thought the beginning of the show was strange. Perhaps I'm different since I thought this was strange and BD"s was cool. Oh well. The last 1/3 of the show.......BALLS. I loved it. I had BD in first by a big margin. Their performance level and energy were off the hook. Crown in 2nd with that big sound and Cadets rounding out the top 3. There you have it.
  13. Wow - I never realized the DCI Champion was crowned in July. That's pretty cool. So - does this mean the rest of the tour is the victory lap and everybody else is fighting for 2nd? [/tongue in cheek]
  14. Cool - they could care less. Different culture from my corps. Still - I'm sure Spirit of Atlanta thought this to be quite the achievement.
  15. Similar to how I started a topic a couple of years ago congratulating the Blue Coats for topping the Blue Devils (which I'm an alumni of)....... I say to the Spirit of Atlanta.....congratulations for topping the Cavaliers. From my understanding, the last time this happened was somewhere around the time I marched. I thought it was 1984 but somebody told me 1986. Whatever it is.....congratulations!!!! At any rate, I'm sure the Spirit members are excited and the Cavies members are not. Good luck to both corps this summer. May you both reach your peak performances at the right time. Rob BD Alumn
  16. Good review and articulated something I couldn't. Blue Devils are playing a different sport. For me, this year, Blue Devils performance is like Cirque Du Soleil (sp). It's not a marching band show, it's not even a drum corps show. This years Blue Devils show is an event.....a performance...something to experience. Whether it wins or not is irrelevant. I would say BD is not competing this year.....this year's show has surpassed that. It's basically a stunning display of visual performance and music that overwhelms a spectator. Raising the bar.
  17. 1982 - a Bear in Estes Park Co. before the floods happened. Dave Hogan and I were cruising along up the mountain when we encountered a bear standing on his hind legs looking at us. We freaked went bolting down the hill and I think the bear may went the other direction. Who knows. We fell onto the road way in front of a van driven by a staff member and her cousin the Estes Park Ranger. So - we had to give details on the encounter. Without divulging the contents of our Barcardi bottle :) Aside from that...the normal scorpions in Nevada and New Mexico rest stops. Scorpions were always a big hit. Let them run by you and attack your utensils as you tease them.
