My first two years the Knights had this subject by the ballz. To wit:

1983

Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla. Russian opera.

Dinner Music for the Gods-Al DiMeola guitar jazz.

Whiplash-Don Ellis big-band chart in 7/8.

It Was Almost Like a Song-Country ballad.

The Joust-Processional from a Broadway musical.

1984

Trittico-Contemporary band piece.

Notte a Roma-Doc Severinsen schmoov jazz.

Heliopolis-Spyro Gyra fusion.

It Was almost Like a Song-the same as above.

Casals Suite-Original piece for the 82 Knights in a Latin vein.

See what I mean? In 85 we did a non-linear Jesus Christ Superstar show and everything thereafter was "concept," like most corps.

That was an every year thing for the Knights

1980

Espiritu De Espana

Star / Boogie Wonderland

Larks Tongue/ The Whistler

One Fine Morning

1981

Espiritu De Espana

I believe in Love

Elenor Rigby

(I don't remember the closer, but it was ballady, and cheesy)

I'd go with "If" by Bread (like anyone would remember that group these days) by the Purple Lancers, 1974...

I hate to admit this...but that was the song my wife and I used as our first dance song at our wedding in 1978.

Plus...I still have an LP record my wife bought me decades ago...the "Best of Bread".

That's a great big band chart.

No disagreement there... but playing it after Shostakovich and then Carmina Burana?
