Best Bluecoats show ever

Recommended Posts

Roughly the same as 89 if that helps. I marched in them and hated them.

Here we go. Linking this back full circle to you marching with Hord.

Of course, how could I have forgotten that was the uniform. Yeah, I got mixed feelings about that uniform. Before I even read your post I saw the picture and knew that was Hord on the right. That picture was from '91, right? He just sent me a message through Corpsdata a couple weeks ago.

Are those pop drums (or whatever you kids are calling them these days) on those tenors? They just look like flat pieces of something. I don't see a shell.

I've been meaning to ask this... in '05 during the "chant" section the pit guys did it in the beginning... but in the beginning of the season the hornline also did the chant while doing some visuals... but at the end when I got to see them again they'd taken that out... was curious as to why... I personally loved it with the corps shouting from the field.

my favorite is probably 2007

I love the music in the '99 show - Celebration Suite

2005 percussion parts during the opening of the show are awesome

It was definitely "Connexus" for me. I listen to that show as much as any shows I ever listen to. LOVE IT! And saw it at Finals. It was my first Finals ever, and it was awesome. LOVE CONNEXUS!!!

There was a big clarity/timing issue, but having seen some mid-season videos waaaay after the season, I can also say that it sounded like *** most of the time. Doing the body movement after running around in the drum feature sounded like 64 brass players trying to learn to speak Arabic out loud while in the middle of a 10K.

On that note, my favorite shows are (in order)...

1. 2000- I'm biased. Contra parts were the deal. Music is fun to listen to, minus the ballad (if you've heard the original, weather channel anyone?). If you haven't heard Pat Williams' Threshold album, you need to. 70s funk-porno jazz at its finest.

2. 2008- What??? Yep. 08. The section in the closer where the horns are moving around the stationary drumline rocked beyond belief. Would have loved to have played that.

3. 1999- Drill was an abortion. Percussion writing equally bad. Guard writing... um... yeah. BUT, I loved the usage of melody throughout the entire production. A drum corps show you can sing, a la 2001 Cavaliers' 3rd corner. Love it (and for an Easter Egg, watch the high cam during Leprechaun's Dream and check out the pinballing contra missing his dots and hitting people. Awesome.).

Honorable mention to 05, 95 and 87.

2003 in DFL.

Care to elaborate? That show was one of my favorites, it's what turned me on to the Bluecoats in the first place.

Yeah - 91.

That was a piece of rubber on a metal plate. Basically a drum pad. A "ghost drum" if you will.
