WWonka
I pretty much agree with mad_scotty on the BD 93 thing. Liked the show but it was big solofest. Of the "hardest"? Star '91?
Lance
Star 91 was crazy for sure.
cowtown
Interesting you should say all of that. Just curious, mad scotty made a good case for his POV so what about BD 93 makes you think it was so challenging as a brass book? I’m still thinking about my answer, don't want to just ###### anothers' answer and bandwagon to have an answer
Lance
Dynamics, articulation, time signatures, and technical demand. And my Magic 8 Ball, duh. Scotty made an interesting case. I think I have too, and I'll let it go at that.
cowtown
I’ll have to defer to my ears and take a listen then - I don’t really recall their 93 show but I’m sure I will a few seconds in if nothing eles, these threads get me to revisit old shows, so that's good, I guess
Lance
Real quick, yes, there are a bunch of solo and small ensemble parts in BD 93 that are very runny, but I wasn't even considering those when thinking about the difficulty of the show. yorkhighmello
It is hard to compare the new Bflat horns to the G bugles. So... G Bugles: 97 Cadets (Which my high school band played, check it out it's amazing) Star 90-93 - Jim Prime is simply amazing and crazy Bflat: Crown 08 BY FAR. The musicality, the pure difficulty of runs and ranges and sustains. Amazing
whitedawn
Bflat: Crown 08 BY FAR. The musicality, the pure difficulty of runs and ranges and sustains. Amazing i seriously just LOLLED. love you guys, but this ain't it. BREATHE DAH!
Lance
I'd put Cadets 05 on a short list, too. And yeah, not so much with any Crown show...yet.
The Other Mike
Argonne Rebels circa 1972-73 You know, this is tough to answer when you've been around corps going on 40 years, I can remember experiences but have a hard time with which exact year. Drove up to Whitewater for something like a regional late 70's early 80's and when BD finished their prelim performance, very few people clapped yet most people were looking around at each other with a look of................." did I just hear what I thought I heard" I remember a M&M judge friend of mine looking at me and saying something like " was that as good as it seemed ?". The show seemed like it was 2 minutes long.......everyone was bewitched by it. Then the Guardsmen came on and their show seemed like it was 45 minutes long and MANY people just started getting up to leave. It was a magical moment, whatever year it was.
