ouooga
Looks like it's a cross between a new drum corps circuit and American Idol. Heard somewhere that with slowing numbers, DCI is allowing unsanctioned shows, Drums Along the Strip being one of them. It's a new circuit with the DCI corps invited, classes are taken out of play, and a portion of the judging with always be the fan voting. Professional drum corps, eh? Then every individual in BD, Bloo, etc who is performing this summer, July 6, 2009, had better GET PAID.I'm dead serious. If I were a marching member right now, I would boycott this performance, unless I was paid at MINIMUM the going studio rate in Vegas. Nothing gets my goat more than calling something "professional" when it's not. How convenient for the admins of the Danny Boy group to be able to use a set of DCI corps as their testing system. From reading all of the links, my conclusion: "DCI meets American Idol meets NBA Slam Dunk Contest" Didn't think about this til I read your post, and I have to say I agree 100%. Is Danny Boy Productions a non-profit like DCI? If they are not, then the performers - not the corps - should be paid. On a related note, if they are not a non-profit, and the corps are, does Danny Boy Productions get to write off the money they pay to the corps as a charitable donation? spatula67
I heard some rumors a few weeks ago about some of the Top World class corps doing a seperate tour in 2010. Apparently this is it ?? Hopefully they are NOT thinking of breaking away from DCI (Star), that would be the nail in the coffin for the activity on the junior level. AlexL
who are the 6 corps?
liebot
Well a lot of them are SCV alums, so I'd guess SCV's going to be one of the corps. Cadets, BD, Cavies, and Phantom? I don't know, just a guess. This is very. . . interesting.

Could be win-win.

Yup, as long as they don't call it "professional drum corps." Or, if they do, pay the membership.

Yeah, It will be interesting to see what comes of this. I'm for anything that grows the activity. Although all these years later, I'm not convinced Star leaving DCI helped grow anything. I think we just lost a great drum corps.
Harvey
Yeah, It will be interesting to see what comes of this. Probably the same that has come of 95% of the corps websites that have been started in the last 8-10 years. ZIP. Remember: Magic of Mobile? Hypnotix? The new corps in OK? The new Salina Silver Sabres? Sorry, but these websites do not excite me anymore. A website is easy to write. Convincing "five of the biggest names in the Drum Corps activity today" to quit their day jobs for a new, riksy venture? A little harder. (BTW: Notice they do not say five of the biggest name drum corps, just five of the biggest names in the DC activity. Maybe Smith, Johnson, Williams, Brown and Jones?? Those are the most common surnames in the US ).
