LanceARoo
I haven't seem any corps live yet this year (Atlanta in 2 weeks!!!) but have seen almost all of the corps through VOD. My question is this... Is Carolina Crown's guard weaker than the last few years? The weapons line look strong again but the flag work looks to be a bit of mess. I know it's still fairly early but I'm worried for them. It just doesn't seem to be of the same caliber as recent years for them. Do they have a young line? Major staff changes? Am I losing my mind? Just wanting Crown to do well this year and would hate to see the guard (one of the strongest in the activity) pull their score down. Any thoughts??? -Lance
Zeke
Didn't they have a good amount of Vets ageout last year? I could see how that could play into things.
LanceARoo
Could very well be. Was just hoping to get some insight. Didn't they have a good amount of Vets ageout last year? I could see how that could play into things.
Zeke
Not everyone can have " IT" all the time..will always be and off year in some form or another from corps to corps.
Feathers Up
I'm a brass guy, but going back to 02 I found myself paying more attention to Crown's guard. They just seemed to catch my eye with what they were doing every year. This year is different though. I just don't really notice them as much. banddad1
As I said in a previous post, The Crown Guard is NOT of the caliber that they have been in the past. I watched them in rehearsal in Suffolk, Va and was astonished at the lack of finese that they ususally possess. I agree that the weapons are fine. The Flags......well, another story. It seems that they are not being held responsible for 110% accuracy. It is obvious even to the non guard person that they dont initiate the work together or even count accurately. Not what we have seen from them in years past. Could be the change in staff.............Jenn Fo was a great Caption Supervisor. She knew how to get those kids on fire. I saw them very early and I noticed that they were wearing chartreuse "housewife" outfits and that's about all that I noticed until the show was over. Maybe it's because the brass are doing a lot of dance moves and they wear white which stands out more? Dunno.

One of the first conversations I had at the stat of the season with a few DCI adjudicators was the decline of Crown's color guard (for this season). Thank you for saving me the need to write this out... I think too many non guard specialists did not even realize Crown had a huge reversal in their guard production. I have a few ties to their guard staff and will keep this short..... This is not the Crown guard of recent years... Bad design all around... FYI Phantom Regiment won last year with just about the same level of a guard book... So, it may not take them out of the race...
