Gen.Nutville
1. 2000 - This show honestly made me cry. I loved it 2. 2007 - Such a great hornline. Very fast drill. C'mon 216 bpm for 2.5 minutes with that drill must be really tough on the body 3. 2005 - The innovation, The ballad, and that performance. 4. 2009 - Classic Cadet show. My favorite show this year 5. 2003 - could've been better 6. 2001 - I like the opener, thats about it 7. 2004 - Wanted to like it but couldnt 8. 2002 - meh 9. 2008 - the closer drill put this before 06 10. 2006 - you cant follow up a 99.15 championship performance with this
Rifuarian
1. 2005: Simply incredible. Not sure how "innovative" it actually was, but a classic nonetheless. 2. 2001: An old fashioned "everything but the kitchen sink" show with only a tiny scrap of a theme covering it. 3. 2003: See above. 4. 2000: Great fun, a definite classic, just a little bit too Mickey Mouse for my tastes (yes, I know they played Disney music . . .) 5. 2009: See numbers 2 and 3. I might move this up once I see it live. 6. 2004: I actually kind of liked this show when I saw it in 04, but I haven't seen it since. Not sure how I would feel if I watched it again. 7. 2006: A good idea poorly executed (from a design standpoint). 8. 2002: Gets points for BWBB, I'd have it lower otherwise. 9. 2007: Fantastically well executed, but theme-wise this show couldn't decide what it wanted to be. Was it "This I Believe?" Was it "Young Person's Guide to Drum Corps"? Or was it "Revenge of the Nerds"? 10. 2008: 2007 should have taught the Cadets that NPR programs, while often interesting and informative, do not always make the best drum corps shows. Sadly it took them another year to learn that lesson. I'm not against the use of voice and narration, but a story that detailed cannot be adequately expressed by drum corps -- too much narration is required, and too much narration spoils the flow of a show. Bydloyoho
Pity these threads weren't set up as polls, it'd be really interesting to see how it all panned out.
euponitone
An interesting trend im seeing with the cadets (or maybe not so interesting). It seems that the cadets scores generally are in line with their audience appeal. For many groups, I find their lower scoring shows to be more entertaining, but with the cadets, at least this decade, the most popular shows by far are 2000 and 2005 (1st), followed by 2001 and 2007 (2nd). Shows in the middle are 2003, 2002, and 2009, which did and probably will place in the 2-3 range. 2004 was ok, which placed 4th, and then most have 2008 and 2006 last, which placed 5th. Now, dont get me wrong, I love les mis and other lower placing shows as well, but it seems like this decade, when the audience loves the cadets, so do the judges. I havent looked at enough other shows threads to see if this is the case there...
fifer
I don't think it's fair at this point to try to make a comparison. How can you compare the memory of the finals week performances for all the previous shows with the most recent viewing of the 2009 show? Especially with The Cadets, you will be comparing a show on an emtirely different performance level (including final cleaning and minor visual additions) to shows that were fully "spit and polish". Ask again next week!! Edited August 4, 2009 by fifer
