84BDsop
I'd be curious to see where the majority of Blue Devils members marched before they were Blue Devils (if they did march). They get a lot of people from a lot of different corps, but I'd bet money that the majority marched Mandarins, Pacific Crest and SCV, simply because they are all California corps. There's probably a large number of Academy and Cascades members too. Back in the old days -- even when I marched, you'd lose. There WERE a lot of NorCal people, but probably 2/3rds of the corps was from out of the region. Today?? I'd guess half or more are not originally from NorCal...success breed successful recruiting, from all over (a fair amount of Japanese members in recent years, in fact). JOHNNY_A
Ya, it's definitely a joke at SCV. However, I am curious how many people move from BDB to BDA. I never think it's that many, but then I see so many people with almost 10 years on their BD jackets. I believe this year there were 4 BDB marching BDA
JOHNNY_A
I spent the day with BDA at there system blue day in Buffalo. Lots of questions were asked and answered. I asked the question about members moving up from the B corps to the A corps, numbers ect. The answer I received from Scott Johnson was it varies from year to year. Some B members are content in only marching with the B corps. Some members try out for the A corps and get cut and move on to another world class corps and make it. Others try out and make it. In a nut shell he said that the individual must make the cut in order to march in the A corps. That includes Members from the B and C corps. If they don't , they either move back down or go elsewhere.
Bob J
sometimes it felt like we were the feeder corps for both SCV and BD! Although we had a fair share of members from other corps as well.

Sac always seemed to be over the top hard-core...we were FAR more relaxed in BD.

I find it a bit less likely that someone initially attracted to BDs style would gravitate towards SCV than the opposite.
bandfan
Academy is a big feeder - They lose kids to BD every season.

drumno5
I heard something very interesting at finals this year and just wanted to throw it out there and see if it was accurate. What I heard was:"Blue Devils B is not the feeder corps for the Blue Devils, the feeder corps for the Blue Devils is the Santa Clara Vanguard". I wonder how true this is? Is it accurate? If it is true, do you think the new managament at Santa Clara (Jeff Fielder) will be able to overcome this to retain the best members? I have been thinking about this since I heard the comment at finals. Don't take everything you hear so literally, friend. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/facetious Fred O. He was uncomfortable with their style and approach, and wound up in SCV instead. He won himself a ring! Respect to both BD and SCV, two great organizations with winning traditions. regards, Fred O.
