  1. I think that has at least a little to do with why you saw more folks in the 80s going red to blue versus blue to red. I find it a bit less likely that someone initially attracted to BDs style would gravitate towards SCV than the opposite.
  2. So you, presumably a mature adult, overhear a conversation amongst teenagers and/or young adults that was inappropriate. You choose to out them for their indiscretion on a public forum with an inflammatory title that condems an entire organization. That shows loads of class.
  3. It would be great to see them do well and live up to the hype, but that's just a tad over the top!
  4. Oh sure what were they thinking! Using media to try to generate some excitement for their souvies and thus revenue for the corps. /sarcasm I love that drumline shirt and I will be buying it.
  5. Your point is well taken and I'm not criticizing anybody's points with respect which corps they like best (I was reacting to someone telling everyone else what they should look for). You are right - my perspective is limited but it is all I got. I loved both shows, but when I had the opportunity to see them live I thought BD was a clear notch better. Had I seen the August performances live my opinion may very well be different.
  6. Good thing somebody is here to tell us what we should be looking for! How is this, "The patented leg kick at the end had me jumping up and shouting almost every time I watched it." consistent with this, "When I watch Drum Corps I want to see a corps expand their horizons. " ? Phantom was outstanding. IMO the only PR show that was better musically was 1989. Visually several corps were far, far superior. I didn't get to see finals. I saw both corps in CA in July and I thought BD was much better.
  7. Huh? Baseball is played extensively throughout the entire western hemisphere and much of Asia. Perhaps your statement has some validity on a professional level but I don't think that is pertinent to the Olympics.
  8. He saw them in May and proclaimed them to be clearly the greatest drum corps of '06 and the certain champions. Apparently the judging community disagrees - at least to this point in the season.
  9. Well you don't have to revive or participate in such a discussion (although you have), but some of us might choose to. Certainly the show a corps like the Cavaliers (or BD, or Cadets, etc) choose to present will be different than that of ECJ, or Jersey Surf, or Academy, etc. However, you really think the show of a corps at the top of Div II is really going to be all that different than that of Esperanza, or Pacific Crest, or any other Div I corps fighting for a spot in Semis? I think not. I think the comparisons are interesting, debatable, and even (gasp!) fun... Lighten up!
  10. You are correct - there certainly is no linear translation that is reliable. However, in 2002 to I looked at much of the same data you have (plus more from the preceding years when corps were able to move between divisions), and I found that 15 pts is a reasonable approximation. I guess it depends are your definition of reasonable. The translation variances you pointed out of 2-3 pts seem very reasonable to me given other factors (different dates, different judges, etc.). I'll maintain that 15 pts is a reasonable guess. 10 pts, as suggested by someone else, is much too low IMO. Your Magic vs. CR and Mandarins example clearly shows that Magic had maxed out the Div 2 sheets in 2002.
  11. If you look at actual objective scoring history the difference between sheets is more like 15 points, but your point is well taken - the cream of the Div II crop can be very competitive with the Div I corps fighting for semifinals. ...and once in a while they can approach finalist quality.
  12. I'm going to say something offensive..... ...but no offense.
  13. I find your spelling appalling! :P Seriously lighten up! Folks are just having fun. Some vote with their head, others with their heart, and others with a bit of both. It's fun! Give it a try.
  14. That's really brilliant, and I'm sure it wouldn't have been considered without your insight.
  15. Great show and a HUGE improvement musically over 2001-2003 IMO, but 3rd was where I would place them. I would say they were closer to 4th than 2nd.
  16. I think it is pretty easy to acknowledge that it sounds nice and remain against amp'd vocals in drum corps.
  17. SCV 04 of that list, but Phantom 03 also rocked my world!
  18. I think you miss his point. He understands the results were not given directly to BOA. He understands the results were not posted BY BOA, but rather on a BOA forum by independent fans. He blames DCI for announcing the results to a subset of fans, which in turn, allowed for the results to make it to a BOA forum before all the voting, DCI fans could see them on DCIs site. That makes him upset. I think that is silly - not a big deal. To each their own...
  19. I think you summed up what many fans feel. You respect and enjoy what he has accomplished on the field, but disagree with his vision for the future. I don't understand why so many folks have such a difficult time with that. The activity needs people willing to explore new ideas. There is a check and balance in place - a rules approval process. To date that process has kept the most controversial of GHs ideas out of the activity. I hope he sticks around.
  20. Here is a guy few will have heard of - Ponce Bautista. He was a center snare rook-out for SCV in 89. Probably didn't do I&E. Quiet, unassuming guy, but man could he play!
  21. No philosophical approach has been proven as deadly as that one. "if it 'ain't broke, don't fix it..."
  22. The first I'm aware of is 83 SCV, but my knowledge is pretty limited prior to 81.
